TOPIC A – “Stand for something, or you’ll fall for anything.” – Anonymous. Creighton learns about many virtues, some of which are honor, loyalty, honesty, humility. This topic deals with honor and loyalty. In chapter 16, the narrator tells us:
“But now Creighton understood for the first time the truth of the matter: If loyalty really was the most worthy of virtues, then loyalty that was misplaced or misguided must be the most worthless.”
Ask yourself:
- What did Creighton’s father stand for? How can you take the lesson of what Creighton’s father died for and use it to grow?
- What is meant by Creighton’s realization about loyalty? How can you personally use the knowledge Creighton has gained?
- Do you stand for something that you (probably) shouldn’t? Do you stand for anything? How do poeple see what you stand for in your actions?
There are a lot of questions in this thread. Pick one to answer. No matter which one you pick, try to talk about yourself as much as possible.
TOPIC B – What is courage? Throughout the first three sections of the book, Creighton struggles to come to terms with the circumstances surrounding his father’s death. After the ransacking and burning of the print shop, General Arnold speaks to Creighton about courage:
“It’s a far more difficult thing to make up your own mind about what’s right and to act accordingly – to go against the demands of duty when it’s necessary, to take another path when you feel the one you’ve been led down is wrong. That requires real courage.”

- What do you think this says about the power of the press?
- Can you think of a recent example in which a newspaper became a powerful tool in waging war or impacting world politics?
TOPIC D – He’s a puzzle, a riddle, an enigma! A major character in this novel is Benedict Arnold – who could possibly be one of the most interesting individuals in American History. In real life he was a hero to the Patriots, and was later hated by those same soliders. TOPIC E – Right is right. Creighton makes a tough decision when he helps break his uncle out of jail. Try to put yourself in Creighton’s shoes.
- Would you have made the same choice?
- What other options did Creighton have, and what did he risk in making those decisions?
TOPIC F – A Duel! A duel becomes a major event in this portion of the novel. One of the most famous duels in American history tragically takes the life of Alexander Hamilton.Read more about the famous Burr-Hamilton duel that took place in 1804 at one of the links below. In your comment for this post, explain why you think that Burr actually shot and killed Hamilton.

#1The setting for this portion of the novel is the city of New Orleans. Since the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, there has been much discussion on the future of this important American city. How do you feel about rebuilding the city of New Orleans? Do you think that the federal government should spend billions of dollars to rebuild the city of New Orleans and protect it from future hurricanes, or should the citizens of New Orleans be asked to pick up and move somewhere else and the city not be rebuilt, or can you think of some other idea?
#2Sophie and Creighton are given a great deal of responsibility in Ben Franklin’s print shop as teenagers. In colonial America many teenagers around the age of 14 or 15 are doing work and taking responsibility for things that today are often associated with adults.Do you think that in American society today we wait too long to treat teenagers as adults? What would be some pros and cons of allowing teenagers in America to have the full rights and responsibilities of adults at the age of 15?
#3The code used by Ben Franklin was possible because it used a book that almost everyone in the colonies was able to access. If you were to write a similar code today, which book would you choose (remember that it should be a book almost everyone has access to or could access). Would you use a certain book if you were only trying to include a certain group of people? In your comment please list the book you would use and why you chose that book.
#4In this portion of the book you have been introduced to Ben Franklin. Ben Franklin was truly one of the most important men in colonial America. The amount of inventions and ideas directly associated with this man is incredible. Here’s what I want you to do:
Step #1 – Check out more about Ben Franklin using the links below.
Step #2 – Pick one of his ideas/inventions that directly impacted you somehow. Tell us the idea you are focused on – describe it briefly – then explain how your life has been directly impacted by it.

Topic E
I think Creighton didn’t make the right decision by breaking his uncle out of jail. If I was in Creighton’s position I wouldn,t help his uncle break out because his uncle really didn’t care of Creighton’s well being as long as he got information and get out of jail. Also, even if Creighton went with his uncle he probably wouldn’t send him back to England as he had plan in the beginning. Creighton had other options than the one he choose. He could have stayed with Benjamin Franklin and worked on The Liberty Tree. He could have told the truth to the Americans and try to join them. Also, he could have tried to get back home by himself. But with every decision comes consequences. He could be considered a traitor and if captored be hang. Also, if he tried to get home by himself he could have not made it back or his mother send him somewhere else. So with every chose there is a consequence that can effect you a lot.
I am choosing Topic F.
I think Burr shot and killed Hamilton because he did not get the apology he thought he deserved. It all started over an election and when Burr lost, Hamilton voiced a despicable slur upon the name and reputation of Burr. Aaron found out through rumors and newspaper articles and he wrote him a letter demanding an apology. When he didn’t get it he wrote another letter and once again nothing. So finally, he challenged him to a duel and killed him.
TOPIC E:
When Creighton made a tough decision when he helped break his uncle out of jail, I was personally shocked but i probably would defend and help put one of my relatives.
At first, Creighton didnt like his uncle at all, but now he seems to have formed a bond with him as time went on. I think I would have made the same choice of breaking my uncle out of jail because, after all, he IS my uncle. And to me, family is very important and I would do anything to protect the people I love. Creighton, obviously had the other option of leaving his uncle behind, which is and isnt a smart thing to do. He needed his uncle to help him with the rest of his journey and Colonel Gower needed his nephew. Creighton was at risk of being caught, and going to jail himself or get killed.
What is meant by Creighton’s realization about loyalty? How can you personally use the knowledge Creighton has gained?
Creighton’s realization about loyalty means that maybe he could end up like his father, at the end of the rope for not being loyal to his country. Creighton realization of not being loyal is like not being faithfull and not being loyal can or might have consequences. I can use this knowledge that creighton has gained by always being loyal, be carefull of what i say and what i do because they all come with consequences.
I agree with Micheal P the newspaper did have heavy influence on peoples choices back then. Depending on what the paper said the people would do. It greatly affeced the lives of every day people each and every day.
I choose topic C
For the patriots to destroy the press tells you alot about its significance. Back then the newspaper was a major way of communication since their were no cell phones. Also the newspaper greatly influenced peoples opinions. If the paper said were shorts then most would follow. The paper had codes for the patriots enimies letting them no what to do. Destroying the press would ruin the plans of their enemy. There has not been at time when the newspaper was caused a issue to which I could remember. Now a days people use so much technology that newspapers are barely getin used. Computers and cell phones are replacing newspapers.I don’t believe that newspapers will ever be as vital as it was back then.
Topic-C Free Press
When the shop was burned down it told me that the press has enough power to worry and demorilize people so much that they can push them over the limit. In this case the press was causing a powerful country like england huge problems with guerrilla war tactics. An example of the free press is the war in iraq since 2003. Before the newspapers grabbed the story people who made the decision were fine with it. However now the papers all say what a huge mistake it was which turned our nation completely around about the decision. This has now affected our political race for 08 with all the doubt about the war and what the new president will be able to do about it. So definetly the press has a huge impact on our politics and our normal lives.
TOPIC E – Right is right. Creighton makes a tough decision when he helps break his uncle out of jail. Try to put yourself in Creighton’s shoes.
Would you have made the same choice?
What other options did Creighton have, and what did he risk in making those decisions
If it were my father in jail I would have made the same decision creighton did because it is a family member and families stick together.
If creighton had not chosen to rescue his father he could have fled the cell leaving his father behind to die and possibly still getting caught, or stayed in the cell with his father and lived his life, and eventually die of some disease.
TOPIC E – Right is right
What Creighton did by helping his uncle break out of jail was very wrong, but if I was in his shoes I would’ve made the same choice. This is because his uncle is family and is the only person he would have been able to trust in a place that was completely unfamiliar to him. I also would’ve helped him escape because then he could help me get out of this place and find a way to get back home. The other options Creighton had were to not have taken the pistol and leave his uncle to find a way to escape by himself, find a way to get back home without his uncle or anyone’s help, or tell Franklin that the colonel is his uncle and admit that he’s a spy for him. The risks that came from making these decisions are losing his uncle’s trust and getting put into jail with his uncle for being a spy or possibly getting hanged.
What do you think this says about the power of the press?
Can you think of a recent example in which a newspaper became a powerful tool in waging war or impacting world politics?
I chose TOPIC C
I think this says that the press holds alot of power. Since the newspaper openly expresses the peoples’ opinions other people can not stop it. Also, since anyone can access the newspaper, anyone can read about others opinions and thoughts and it might change the way they think. A recent newspaper article where it was impacting politics was the news that Sen. Barack Obama was Muslim. Because of that article and the pictures that was contained in it, alot more people were not liking Barack Obama.
I agree with Christian that you do have to be careful who you pledge your loyalities to.
I agree with waht Michael says about the press. It can drive people to extreme lenghts. For examole the british in the book The Year of the Hangman, burned down Benjamin Franklin’s printing press to stop the spear of the Liberty Tree.
Topic C
I choose topic C because I feel that even though say that the power of the press is strong, that is actually a big, fat LIE. If people could really express their their thoughts in the newspaper then why don’t some people actually do that same thing. For example, the war in Iraq. When ever we watch the news or read the newspaper, the only opinions that we ever hear are the opinions of people with higher power who just repeating something that someone else wrote for them on a topic that they don’t even understand. They are just acting like parrots, repeating every word that comes into their heads. Even if someone does happen to give their own opinion, the government will be their to just take away how they really feel. This exactlly like the freedom of speech. If everyone does have a right to say what they want to say then why dosen’t someone just do that same thing. Well guess what? They can’t because the government will be their to just destroy what they say. The government will be their just to destroy eveything that somone feels that has to be heard to the rest of the world becase needs to control everything that happens in the world. That is my discussion answer.
TOPIC E- Would you have made the same choice?
– What other options did Creighton have, and what did he risk in making those decisions?
If I were Creighton I probably have made a deal with my uncle first. I would say I will help break you out of prison if you promise to bring me back to England and I will give you very valuable infomation about the printing press The Liberty Tree.
Other options Creighton could have made was to not help him at all or not go to the prison at all, or he could have even made the deal as I said in the other question. Instead he risked his only chance of going back to England. Also he risked his life in helping him, especially when he was knocked out by his uncle, Creighton could have been caught and probably even hung.
I am choosing Topic E…
In the situation that Creighton was in, I probably would not have chosen to break my uncle out of jail. Even if he was my blood and he knew what had truly happened to my father, the law is the law, and the consequences are hard! Creighton also obviously had the choice of not listening to his uncle. In the end, it all worked out, but his uncle died. Oh well.
I’m choosing Topic A, specifically question 2.
What Creighton realizes is very true. Loyalty is placed high on my list of virtues, so to misplace loyalty is horrible. For example, say that you have a best friend. Some one you trust and who trusts you. You could say that your loyal to that friend. What if that friend used your loyalty to reach a personal, possibly wrong goal? You may fall into the trap blindly, therefor taking the blame while in atuallity, you’re innocent. As another example,(I was reading that FBI thing for ‘Topic B’ and it got me thinking,) what if you worked for the FBI, and you did use inhumane interrigation methods? You may think that “Oh, I would never do such a cruel thing… I know it’s wrong,” but you might not think that after you recieved orders from your superior, and a letter of authorization from the President himself. In this case, you would misplace your loyalty in you government.(Scary thought, I would hope we could trust our own government.) By taking this knowledge, you may better understand the importance of loyalty (and the consequences of misplaced loyalty), and in turn be more careful of who you pledge YOUR loyalty to. Choose wisely.
I agree with Michael because people will almost believe anything they read in the newspaper. It also has a great effect on our economy and the way we look at things almost not thinking for ourselves.
I chose Topic C – A free press
The question was: What do you think this says about the power of the press?
I think that Michael C. has a wonderful point. The power of the press CAN drive people to very extreme lengths! I think that it also shows that the voice of the people is being heard. An example of this is that Franklin, Creighton, and Sophie were “the people” and if the Patriots didn’t care what “the people” thought they wouldn’t of hunted until they found the source of The Liberty Tree and burnt it to a crisp. I think this proves the power of the press is very strong.
Topic E
I don’t think Creighton did the right thing by breaking his uncle out of jail. However, if I were Creighton, I would have done the same thing because if I were in a place that was unfamiliar to me and that I knew little about, I would want to get out. I wouldn’t of thought about the consequences, but the fact that i’m finally getting out of this place. Creighton did have other options to choose from. He could have not broken his uncle free. Also not have taken the pistol. Most importantly he could have told the Patriots the real reason he was here and just drop the act. But maybe the Patriots might not have been so generous as to let him go freely. They could hang him. Colonel Gower probably wouldn’t have led Creighton to his father who was alive after all. Each situation has it’s consequences and therefore only Creighton could have chosen the right one.
I chose Topic A.
Creighton’s father stood loyal to the british but when he knew that innocent people were going to be killed he had to do what was right in his conscience. Even though he was labeled a traitor, he did the right thing. I can use this moral to grow by knowing to do what is right, and if my friends don’t think doing what is right is good, then they aren’t real friends.
Topic C- A free press
I found that when the enemies of the Patriots attempted to destroy the printing shop of “The Liberty Tree” this showed that the power of the press can be so extreme that it can drive people to great lengths. When opinions on serious matters are stated in the newspapers, it seems almost impossible for people not to get involved.
An example would be when the newspaper reported how the U.S. was waging war with Iran and opinions on it. This brought up a lot of conflict on whether people agreed on the matter or not. People are still arguing on the matter. The press is obviously powerful.
I choose Topic E- Right is Right
I would have done the same thing Creighton did even though I know that it wasn’t the right thing to do. I think I would have done it because if I were all alone in a foreign place and my uncle would have been the only person I knew and trusted, then I would have done everything possible to get him out. Also the point of view of Creighton was distorted to the point of view of the British so that he thought the Americans were the bad ones. Once he figured out the reality of the issue, he went with what he believed was right. I would have done the same thing.
Creighton did have other choices instead of the one he made. He could have not taken the gun from his friend and just let things be. He could have confessed that the colonel was his uncle and the orders the colonel gave him and be on the side of the Americans. He also could have tried to find a way to get back to England and leave the colonel and the lieutenant to find a way to break out of the jail. Of course, the consequences come along with each decision. He could be a considered a traitor and be hanged. His uncle would not help him in tight situations just as Creighton did not help him in the jail. His mother might not want him back home and his friends might not want to be his friends anymore. They’d consider it a disgrace. As you can see, each decision brings its own risks.
Topic E
i don’t think creghton did the right thing by helping break his uncle out of jail. however, if i was in his shoes, i might have done the same thing. creighton didnt know that his uncle was going to leave him behind. he thought he was being loyal to his uncle by helping him escape. he didnt think about the effects or consequences that might happen afterwards.
I choose Topic E.
If I was Creighton I wouldn’t have made the choice as he did. I wouldn’t have helped his uncle break out of jail because of how his uncle sent for him. Being taken away from my mom without anyone telling me would be wrong and I would feel like no one actually cared about me.
Creighton had plenty of options regarding breaking his uncle out of jail. He could’ve stayed at Dr. Franklin’s house and not have brought a copy of The Liberty Tree leading to the burning o Dr. Franklin’s printing shop. That incident also included the death of Franklin. Creighton could have also went to the jail and brought the copy of The Liberty Tree but not have broken his Uncle of of jail. This would probably lead to the printing shop gaining fire but Colonel Gower night not have got in contact with anyone, so it might not happen.
The Pre-Spring Break Assignment is closed. Thanks for a great discussion.
#4
I believe that the lightening rod (one of Benjamin Franklin’s inventions) impacted me the most. As in reference to one of the links. it says that : Benjamin Franklin wanted his experiment to be practical, so he developed the lightning rod. A tall rod is attached to the outside wall of the house. One end of the rod points up into the sky; the other end is connected to a cable, which stretches down the side of the house to the ground. The end of the cable is then buried at least ten feet underground. The rod attracts the lightning and sends the charge into the ground, which helps to decrease the amount of fires. I thought that that inpacted me the most because it helped protect buildings and people who are within or near them. Let’s say the probability of getting struck by lightening is 20 out of 6 million, I definately would not like to be part of that likely chance of getting hit. So that is why I think the lightening rod impacted me the most.
question 4
One of Benjamin Farnklin’s inventions was the Franklin stove. This invention improved on the traditional methods of cooking. This stove didn’t let in alot of a smoke from the fire. It also didn’t let any of the cinders coming from the stove to burn down the house because most house from that century were made out wood. My life has been impacted by the Franklin stove because with a traditional method stove most of the heat from the fire was going through the chimmeny, so you woudn’t really be that warm all the time. The traditional chimmeny let in alot of smoke which was harmful to person who needed the fire. There was also the chance that a spark from the flame would burn down your house with all of your possessions inside of it.
QUESTION 1
The federal government should help the people of New Orleans and rebuild the city. The people of the city should not have to go through all that pain and suffering they are going through right now. They did not plan or even expect how devastating the hurricane would be. The government should at least speed up the rebuilding process so the people who once had homes should not be homeless or living in small uncomfortable trailers.
I feel that the city of New Orleans should be rebuilt. Some people would disagree with rebuilding it because they will be thinking about the cost. They would be thinking about the tax, and the funding reduction. However, if it was their home that was destroyed they would do everything in their power to restore their home. New Orleans is a part of the United States and we can not aboned them in their time of need. To do that would be unconstitutional. However, we do not need to leave everything up to the government. Instead of waiting on them to provide the money and funds to everything, organizations can raise money to help rebuild New Orleans. New Orleans is the people’s home. They have spent their lives there, and you cannot tell them to just pack their things and leave .
I think that the government of this country should rebuild New Orleans. This would be a terrific investment for a few reasons. One, people in any other american city would immediately want the city rebuilt like New Orleans because of the exstensive problems in the place they live. The city is a huge community that has been together for years and it would be ridiculous to make them just pack up and leave. They should not be forced to go to another city and adjust to
a new life and leave behind their awesome memories when the government is capable of cleaning up their city like they would for others in need.
Question Number One.
The setting for this portion of the novel is the city of New Orleans.
I chose to do question number one because I feel very strongly that the government should rebuild New Orleans. The possible solution of asking the citizens of New Orleans to pick up and leave the town that they are so used to living in is horrendous. This is their home. This is their life. That is not something that they can just throw away. The government should invest enough money in rebuilding New Orleans to ensure that nothing can ever bring a devestation equal to the damage brought by hurricane Katrina to new Orleans ever again. Would it be fair to you if your home was destroyed and you could not rebuild it and you just had to pick up and leave? No. Would it be fair if you had to desert all your memories because the government would not help you? No. So you see the government should not force all of the people of New Orleans to leave their homes.
I choose Question #1
I do think that the federal government should spend to rebuild New Orleans and protect it from future hurricanes. This city was a great and also historic place in America. It was the near of the birthplace of ragtime. It also was part of the Louisiana Purchase that America had bought from the French. The also have the great annual of celebration of Mardi Gras. With the devastation caused by Katrina people haved moved away because their houses have been destroyed and cannot celebrate most of these things that they used to love to celebrate. If the federal government pays for their homes to be rebuilt they could all come back and enjoy the history and celebrations New Orleans has to offer.
Topic #2
I don’t think that in America’s society we wait to long to treat teenagers as adults because most teenagers are immature. Some pros of treating teenagers as adults is so that they can learn to be more responsible. The more responsibility you give a teenager the more things they have to take care and they have less time to fool around and/or get into trouble. The cons of treating a teenager as an adult is that they will think they can do anything they want. For example, drink and buy cigarettes.
Topic #1
I think the government should spend more money rebuilding the city of New Orleans. New Orleans is apart of the United States to and I think that it deserves as much respect and care as the rest of the states. Its not fair that the citizens there should suddenly get up and move beacause some people there dont have as much money as others.
Hey y’all.
I’m very impressed with the honest and respectful discussion going on in here.
To say that to rebuild New Orleans- in all senses of the phrase- would cost millions is unrealistic. Think in terms of billions.
Check out these google results to get an idea of the cost to rebuild after disasters perpetrated by man and caused by nature.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=active&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=Zxr&q=list+destroyed+city+rebuild+cost&btnG=Search
Also, take a look at this NPR story – An American History of Disaster and Response – at http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4839530
I think the federal government should pay to rebuild New Orleans and protect it from future hurricanes because it is home for thousands of people. New Orleans is a very important part of our nation so we should help them like we would any other part of our country. This city holds history, culture, and memories that are important to the people who live there and everybody else. We couldn’t tell the people of New Orleans to pick up and move when they don’t have enough money and everything they had was destroyed. The federal government should spend money to rebuild and improve the buildings and levees to prevent from future hurricane disasters. Also, try to improve building structures against natural disasters in other places so this wouldn’t happen to other cities.
Question #1
I think the federal government should pay for the rebuilding of the city of New Orleans and protect it from future hurricanes. The citizens of New Orleans should not be asked to pick up and move somewhere else and the city not be rebuilt because that would be cruel and the people probably dont even have enough money to move somewhere else because they lost everything from this disaster. New Orleans was a home for many people and a place filled with history and culture. Then Hurricane Katrina came and destroyed it. It ruined thousands of people’s lives and left them homeless with no food, shelter, and anywhere to go after the storm. Even though it would cost billions of dollars to rebuild the city, it would be completely worth it because it would help restore the lives of the many people who lost everything from the hurricane. The government can also find a way to protect this city and others from future hurricanes so another terrible disaster like this doesn’t happen again.
Topic # 1
i feel that the government should rebuild the city of New Orleans because since this devastating occurance happened, people went through a lot, and i think it would be too much to ask for if they just pick up and move somewhere else. What if they don’t have family anywhere else? How will they start their new lives with no one to guide them? These are the few questions we should consider. The government shouldn’t make these people go through more hard times than they already have. They should spend money and rebuild this city not only for its citizens but for its culture. The money would be put to good use because many people like to visit New Orleans because it’s different than any other state in the U.S., like their popularity with jazz and southern food. I’m sure that Americans would hate to see another disaster like this happen and see other lives lost. The government should consider this because it will make the town ‘alive’ again and protected from future hurricanes.
Topic #1
Yes, the Federal Government should spend billions of dollars to rebuild the city of New Orleans because the whole city was destroyed, people died, and survivors were living in a washed out town with dirty water and sewages that were broken. This was hazardous to health and welfare. If the Federal Government refuses to help rebuild the city, then the United States of America will loose one of its most historical cities. If New Orleans is not rebuilt, it could lose its tourist attraction and culture. The government of the United States of America needs to rebuild the city of New Orleans and restore the faith the people had in this country in thinking that the government actually cares for people and are for the people. New Orleans is a city that has history and hosts some of the biggest events in America. Jazz originated in New Orleans and everybody likes to see New Orleans and the famous Bourbon Street.
I agree with michael p. on question #4. i dont have glasses, but i think that the spectacles, which evolved into glasses, are extremely helpful to many people. without them, people who are vision impared would have no way of seeing clearly.
I think that the government should spend all of that money to rebuild the ciy of New Orleans. This should be done because New Orleans was a great city home to thousands of people. They shouldn’t be forced to move somewhere else just because the government is to lazy to take the time to rebuild. This city might have housed thousands of memories, good or bad, for these people and it might make things harder for them if they HAD to move. You just have to consider the fact that most of the people who lost everything to Hurricane Katrina have lived there for all of their life and cant picture life anywhere else. If the goverment was to do this- with all the stuff going on now, i think that many people would be greatful. Also, if the rebuilding meant so much to the people, organizations like American Red Cross, and just regualr everyday people could help pitch in and make the process a whole lot easier.

On the subject of rebuilding new orleans. I feel that the city should not be rebuilt. but I think it needs to be rebuilt. I do think that the government needs to rebuild New Orleans no matter how many billions of dollars they spend because. New Orleans was a culture filled city and the government should show that they understand that by rebuilding. what was there,And they should redo the leves and finish them this time so that the city has a better chance of survival next time

During the hurricane of Katrina there were many lives lost, almost every family was driven out of there homes in New Orleans. Now me personaly, i have never experienced anything like what they had went through, but i’m sure i can imagine how devisated they were. Can you fathum losing your family in a mas destruction storm? Not haveing any place to go after the hurricane was over? There whole city was destroyed. I feel that the federal government should spend money to help rebuild New Orlaens, not to mention it would mean alot to the people who lived there. It would change there lives for the better. Why would they not want to rebuild the city? First of all, that one part of the world has alot of history. Seconedly, New Orleans is a fairly large city, it would just sit there destroyed and dead, nothing is there any more it should be rebuilt stronger and better to with stand hurricanes. Third of all, Many people would basicly have to restart there live all over again. The city is demolished. There is no more work for them, that means they don’t make money anymore. How are they suppose to buy a new house get a new job? They would need to move away from there home and start there lives fresh. It would be rediculous to ask these inicent people to get up and move because of mother natures creations.

I agree with James B. The government should pay because they have the money and resources to do it, they should not have allowed the situation to get to such an extent that 2+ years after he hurricane hit people are still homeless. IT REALLY DOESN’T MAKE SENSE!The homes won’t bring back the people who lost their lives in that devastating time but it can help the family rebuild their lives and bring back memories. i really think the government should stp up and take responsibility.
question #1
i think the government should pay for the rebuilding of the new orleans. the new orleans is a historical city and is important to our country. it will cost a lot of money, but its not like the government has none of it. also, im sure many people would be willing to help reconstruct this city. the people who live there have lost basically everything to the hurricane and, although no one could prevent it, they should still be given back what was taken from them.
Question #1
I feel that rebuilding New Orleans is a good thing and that the federal government should pay for rebuilding New Orleans. New Orleans was an important city for the U.S. because it attracted tourists, which is a huge income for the economy and would help to repay the government; it is full of culture and lots of history, too. Hundreds of thousands of people lost their homes to Hurricane Katrina. A home is something you look forward to going to everyday. These people don’t
have that option. They were expected to leave everything they owned behind. What kind of government do we have that if a crisis like this happens, we just accept the fact that it happened and we move on. It would be very cruel and unjust if the government didn’t rebuild New Orleans. These victims need to have something to look forward to because they’ve probably had nothing but misery since the natural disaster. I also think this is a good example of how the government should handle situations like thisin the future to prevent anymore individuals from having to be punished for something they didn’t do.
Do you think that in American society today we wait too long to treat teenagers as adults? What would be some pros and cons of allowing teenagers in America to have the full rights and responsibilities of adults at the age of 15?
-No, I do not feel that today in an American society we wait too long to treat teenagers as adults. Teenagers are treated absolutely fairly. We are treated more stricter as a teenager, however we are treated this way because we are much more maturer than before in our childhood life. On the other hand, we are treated less stricter than adults are. For Instance too much work as a teenager can put a lot of stress on a teenager…. TO BE CONTINUED
I think the federal government should pay for rebuilding New Orleans. New Orleans has lots of background from there and lots of ancient history there. Why should the people suffer living in New Orleans from this dreadful hurricane. It’s not like the people of New Orleans did anything wrong. It’s not like there the one’s who destroyed there town. So I think it would be very unfair and cruel if the government does not rebuild New Orleans. People are suffering there and have no shelter and no where to live. The people of New Orleans are running out of time and are hungry and in need of water. New Orleans used to be and welcoming tourists attraction but no it is all gone. So if the government rebuilds this wonderful state people would be happy and healthy again. The people will have places to sleep and have shelter. Also there will be less pollution and debree everywhere if they rebuild the state. It would be good for the people of New Orleans and the environment of anew Orleans. So if the federal government rebuild New Orleans it would be a happier world.
I choose Question #1.
I think the federal government should pay for the rebuilding of New Orleans. New Orleans was full of culture, history, and people. Even though it was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, spending millions of dollars to rebuild the city would be well worth it. If the government were to spend millions on the rebuilding of the city, tourism would bring the millions spent back into the government. Also, let us not forget that it wasn’t just a tourist attraction, it was people’s home as well. Houses were there, filled with lively people, welcoming the tourists, but now that the city is gone, the people and animals living there, may have to find someplace else to live. I disagree with that idea, so I say that the government should pay for the rebuilding of New Orleans, and also increase what insurance agencies can cover so if something else like this happens again, there will be a backup plan to help the people damaged through the natural disaster.
Question#1
I feel that rebuilding New Orleans is a good thing. If your home was destroyed you would more than likely rebuild it, becuase that home might contain wonderful memories and special events. Just like New Orleans, people who’s homes and business that has been destroyed by the hurricane might have a spical connection to them. For some people who own business it could have been passed down from generation to generation. Ithink the government should spend that money on New Orleans so people can get theire lives back. If the government can spend over billions of dollors on wars that makes no sence.Spending money on a place that will bring happenes to people of New Orlens makes alot of sence to me.
