TAKE A STAND

A credo is a formal, point-by-point statement of beliefs, principles, or opinions.  Compose a credo for a character from one of the stories in this unit.  The credo should explain how they think and act.

PERSUASION

Write a persuasive speech calling for the kind of country that you would like to help create.  Try to persuade people that you are right and that they should join you.

ART

Create a work of art, such as a painting or clay sculpture that reflects the content, tone, and imagery of one of the works in this unit.

ILLUSTRATION

Using details from the story, illustrate a book jacket that would make people want to read your chosen story, and incorporate a story review.

STUDENT CHOICE

Students may complete a self-designed project based on the unit theme

Teacher approval required

POSTERS

Learn about the NAACP.  Find out more about this organization and the contributions it has made.  Create posters representing causes supported by the organization over the years.

POETRY

Using “O Captain! My Captain!” as a model, write a poem about another U.S. president.  To what would you compare that president? (metaphor poem)

RESEARCH

Research the technological advances that contributed to the Civil War’s reputation as a modern war.  For example, how did the rifle change warfare?  What roles did railroads, telegraphs, and ironclad ships play?  Prepare a presentation for the class.

TESTING

Create your own test based on one or more of the stories we’ve read.  Follow the point values given to each category and make up a 100 point test and answer key.  If it’s good enough, you might even get to take your own test for a grade!

Hey Mr. Moshe this is Andrew Skorupa from 2nd block and I have been looking at the menu options trying to figure out which one to do. I have made my decision and I will do the one on the NAACP and the Create your own test. Since they are due next week December the fifth, and I do not have a Language of Literature book(just the internet) I was just wondering If you will tell me the stories from Unit five whenever you can.

    Thank you,

    Andrew

If you have the internet, then you’ll be able to access all the stories (etc.) through classzone. See me in class to get the activation code if you do not already have a registration for it. Now go enjoy your weekend. See you Monday. :)
