Can you think of other traits a person can have (or lack)?
Post a comment on a trait not listed: define it; create a word web for it; provide an etymology (what’s an etymology?); use it in its various forms; tell us what people have to say about it.
Now, take out your sheet of paper from class. You should have a word web on it. You should have a quote, and for that quote you should have written down your idea of what is meant by it. You should have an idea of how that quote could apply to you.
-
Post your Quote with an explanation for why you picked it. Why do you like it?
-
Post what you think it means.
-
Post how you think it applies to you.
-
Then explain the role your term plays in society. You might like to take these questions one at a time – place your word in the blank. Some of the questions may not work for your term- you may need to use another form of the word in the blank, and/or you may need to change a preposition or two in the quesiton:
How does __(your term here)__ effect the creation of laws? Do those laws apply to you?
In what way does _________________ effect individual’s rights? What if there were no (one) _________________ of/for you or yours? (remember what that expression means?)
How does _________________ affect freedom for all, safety for all? What if _________________ were taken away for/from you?
What role does _________________ play as far as making certain students have opportunities to grow?
My quote was “An axe does not cut down a tree by itself.” To me, this quote mean that you cant always do thing by yourself, and its ok to ask for help. Teamwork is very important, whether your playing sports or just doing a chool project. I picked this quote because i feel very strongly about teamwork. =] Teamwork applies to me because I play sports. Everyone in the world uses teamwork and can relate to this quote.
Honesty. My quote was, “Truth is not diet, but a condiment.” To me, this quote means your whole way of life is not just made up of truth, but many other things. Bascially it was saying truth is a condiment that will make life better. It’s like when you eat a hotdog. Sure it’s ok with just meat and bread, but once you add your ketchup, mustard, and relish it’s tasting a whole lot better.
I think People today are lacking vista. Now when I look in the dictionary,it says that one of the meanings is:
~an extensive mental view (as over a stretch of time or a series of events).
Many people don’t think about how there actions would effect others, locally or globally,or even in the present or in the future. If we take the time to think before we act,the world would be more…peaceful. We wouldn’t suffer the pain of the aftermath of our titanic or microscopic action(s).
Etymology: Italian, sight, from visto, past participle of vedere to see, from Latin vidEre
My character trait was CITIZENSHIP!!!!It means to me that you should help out where you live or be a good citizen period. The quote that I liked was “Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.”-Shirley Chislom.I picked this quote because it explains or makes me undersatnd more what Citizenship is.I like it because it breaks down to me what citizenship is and it is also something good to look back on when you decide to or supposedly forget what citizenship is and don’t want to help the country out.Now I think it means that if you live on this earth at least find enough time to help out and also its saying this should be the way we pay back or do a favor for living on this earth.!!So be a good citizen and help out its the most you can do!!!!!

“Each time you are honest and conduct yourself with honesty,a success force will drive you towards greater success. Each time you lie, even with a little white lie, there are strong forces pushing you towards failture”
-Joseph Sugarman
Here is my Quote,in which I think tells the truth of life so I liked it the most.If you are honest with yourself and with others, you can improve yourself by learning from what you did wrong, which you would’ve lied about. If you lie, then there’s no improvment, and others will find out the truth sooner or later.Like the Master Monk in xiaolin showdown said,”You don’t learn anything from victories, but 1000 lessons in defeat.” or something like that.
I think I means exactly what I said before, being honest will improve yourself, and lieng will lead you down the path of pain and suffering.(Maybe not physically but emotionally.)For example,I made a horrible mistake of starting a fight with my best friend last year, and it killed apart of me.I wasn’t honest with her and myself(But I don’t want to get in to much detail because it’s personal),that was the cause of the fight. Now on,I’m going to be honest,no matter what, besides I hate lying anyways. After lying,I feel like slime, yuck.
The Goverment has to be honest,so that the public will have all the facts before passing a law that would effect everyone in the city.Besides,if they people found out that they were lieing, that would probably be kicked out of office. They wouldn’t like that much.Honesty is a vital element to students as well. We,the students, are trusted to do our own work.If we don’t,then we suffer on test. It’s that plain and simple,so I wonder why people would cheat.
“Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”,the basis of America today. We thrive to maintain freedom for all,but we wouldn’t be completely free if our leaders were lying, right? If they didn’t tell us the truth or the complete truth, then how do we know do we know is we didn’t sign our freedom away?
Sorry for making so long.
I want to add to my previous comment about cooperation, and how it applies to me. Cooperation affects to me in a way that makes my life easier and better. For example, when friends, family, peers, or even myself cooperate with eachother, we are making our lives easier, becuase we are doing it faster than if we were all alone. Like if there were a family meal to be set up, and my whole family was to COOPERATE, we would accomplish our goal much quicker and simplier. So basicly, if we all add a little more cooperation into our lives, you won’t only be helping yourself, you’ll be helping others.
“An example of how this applies to everybody is the FACT.
You are only required to get a 3, but of course you want to get a higher score. Now, how is this an example of citizenship?”
—–Does anyone want to take a shot at this? How is striving for a higher score than is required an example of being a good citizen?
—–Can going above and beyond apply to other areas of being a citizen?
“The only thing I can say is, it’s an example of the quote, and the quote is an example of citizenship.”
oh,and I just had to add this. Most of the traits interrelate with one another. Like, tolerance is respect for all peoples. So in order to have tolerance, you have to have respect. And kindness as well, probably. I’m critically thinking. Zomg I’m cool now.
I did the character trait CITIZENSHIP and the quote i picked was: “i regret that i have but one life to give to my country”-Patrick Henry. I liked that quote because the person who said that must have been really devoted to his country. But i also wonder if whoever said that would have said the same thing if he were born in a different country, like if he were born in an “unstable” country or a place he didnt like. I guess it depends on the persons state of mind. I think that quote means that he wishes to have more to give to his country then he already gave as if if wants or wishes to do better, like whatever he is doing isnt good enough. I guess there is a fine line between good and great, because this man obviously wanted to do better than good. I believe that citizenship doesnt just apply to me but to everyone. If someone doesnt act like a citizen then someone else may suffer the consequences. For instance: If someone is incapable of doing something, like puting up shutters on their house, because of whatever reason then it would be safer for that person and the neighborhood if you helped them out…It would be safe for the neighborhood because there wont be shattered glass all over the sidewalks. That actually happened to me and my family, a neighboor came over and helped us put up boards. I dont believe that citizenship is a matter of getting glory after the deed has been done, but i think its more about doing something right simply because it is the right thing to do. well i think that citizen shio has alot to do with laws, i know that not everybody follows all the laws but that doesnt make them a bad citizen. I dont think that one bad deed is enough to condem someone but i dont think that one good one is enough to glorify him either. citizenship is more of a process an attitude. I mean laws are made for CITIZEN to follow so i guess in order to do that you need CITIZENship. Futhermore i cant guess what would happen if we all broke those laws, it wouldnt be pretty…. over all i personally believe that citizenship is a pretty important character trait!! 🙂
My trait was tolerance. The quote that I chose was”All races and tribes in the world are like the different colored flowers of the meadow. All are beautiful.” I picked this quote because the comparison of people to flowers caught my interest.I think it means that people are indeed like flowers, diverse but yet beautiful in their diversity. It applies to me in the simple way that I live by the philosophy of tolerance, being from a different culture than most.Tolerance plays a role in society by keeping peace between most races that respect each others differences.
1)Tolerance affects the creation of laws because laws are approved with the rights of every culture of the nation in mind.
2)Tolerance affects our individual rights because we are allowed to practice our own religion, eat our own cultural food, and celebrate or choose not to celebrate certain holidays.Without tolerance, we would have to be like everyone else to avoid confrontation and violence.
3)Tolerance affects freedom and safety for all because no one is hated becasue they are different.Without it, the disabled, the disfigured, and people from all over the world would be shunned.
4)Tolerance allows students to befriend people of different nationalities and physical appearance, and to learn more about how they live. They grow as people, and it also expands their knowledge.
Christine i totally agree with what you’re saying about cooperation. I understand now that you need to get through life not just thinking of yourself but helping others and letting others help you.
—–Everyone should take note of this post.
—–First, there is a statement of agreement, “Christine…”
—–Then, a substantial extension, “you need to get …”
—–Well done, Lauren!! Keep it up!
My word is Kindness. The quote I picked was ” We should behave to our friends as we wish our friends to behave to us.” by Aristotle. I picked it because I think it’s true. It means to treat our friends the way we want to be treated by them. I think I could make new friends and make a stronger friendship with old friends by following the quote. Everyone can have kindness in them. The word kindness means to be helpful, thoughtful, caring, compassionate, and considerate. If there were no kindness in people, everyone would be mean and rude.
Yes Lauren, If a lady drops her purse and doesn’t realize it, you should indeed return it.
——Two things: (1) Do not include your last name in the field for your name. I will not give anyone anymore opportunities to follow this rule. In the future I will unapprove your message and deduct points for inappropriate participation; and (2) Be polite and respectful.
——This message was edited for tone. Using all caps and/or boldfaced letters to type a message implies a raised voice/tone. This can be taken in a number of ways: condescending, angry, disappointed, and the list goes on.
Please be polite and respectful. Practice the traits we are discussing here.
Thanks!!
Your teacher,
Mr. Moshé
Cooperation. The quote I chose for this word is “An axe doesn’t cut down a tree by its self”. This quote means without the help of the people that use the axe to cut down the tree nothing can be done. I chose this quote because it’s really true without teamwork throughout life you can’t get anywhere. So you might as well just stop trying to do everything yourself because its not always going to work out. You can use Cooperation in society by helping out someone in need or letting people help you. For example, If you’re working on a project and u try to get it done yourself, just let someone help you so the job will get done faster. Overall, cooperation is a good trait to have =]
Citizenship. Citizenship in this case is your behavior in terms of duties, rights, and privilages. The quote I picked was “Always do more than is required of you.” I picked this quote because it was worded in a fancy way. Regular people would say always do more than you are required to do. I think this quote means if you are expected to do something, you should do more than is wanted, expected, and required for you to do, no matter how hard, long, or complicated it is. Of course, many people don’t unless it is simple, easy, or there is something in it for them.
An example of how this applies to everybody is the FACT. You are only required to get a 3, but of course you want to get a higher score. Now, how is this an example of citizenship??? The only thing I can say is, it’s an example of the quote, and the quote is an example of citizenship.
Citizens effects the creation of laws because they are the one who need to obey them.
Citizenship effects individual’s rights because you have to be a citizen in order to have certain rights. For example in this country, vote to have the leader you want.
The role citizenship plays in terms of letting students grow is having the right to grow.
I found it very hard to answer number 4. Did anyone else?
My word is Kindness. The quote i chose is “Kindness is love, perhaps greater than love”. This quote means that you need kindness to have love and sometimes kindness is even greater. I chose this quote because i think people that have kindness get far in life and get treated how they want to be treated. You can use Kindness in society in many different ways. For example, you are walking down the street and the lady in front of you drops her purse. The kind thing to do is to return it. Like i said people with kindness get farther in life and makes the world a better and more compassionate place to live. All in all, kindness should be used anywhere and is a wonderfull trait to have.
Tolerance. Such a small word that means so much. The quote I picked from this word was said by Martin Luther King Jr. It says “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” For example if its dark in a room and no one turns on a light it will still be dark in the room, but if the light goes on then the darkness goes away. That what the quote means to me. I think it is totally true. The word tolerance to me means to be able to put up with somethiing no matter if you like it or not. You might have to deal with the person you hate the most, but if you dont learn to like that person then your hate will never go away. Now the reason I picked this quote is because I think that it was the best quote that fit the description of the word Tolerance. This quote might not fit my life, but this quote fits a lot of other peoples lives. I’m glad I got this word for my trait. I enjoyed finding out what it truely means.
My word was responsibility. We have to be responsible if you dont be responsible for instance not doing you homework it will lead to a zero. And as every teacher has said about 50 million times zero’s really bring down your grade.Which lead to bad grades and then you may flunk and so on. Another thing that may be your responsibility is your chores. Though i myself hat doing them i have to because it is my RESPONSIBILITY besides my parents pay me for doing my chores so its all good. If you dont do your chores like clean your room, you might have an allergic reaction from all the dust or something. You might get grounded and than there goes the fun so be responsible..you just might get some cash. lol
“One person can make a difference and every person should try”
-John F. Kennedy
I like this quote because it gives hope in trying to do what you want. Trying may lead to succeding if you try hard enough. and succeding is acheiving greatness.
– Giancarlo O. Sensebe…lol
anyway it applies to me because it can help me to succeed in things that i want to try so it can apply to a lot of things. Such as studying for tests.
SELF CONTROL. the quote I decided was a great quote was ” it is not only for what we do that we are held responsible, but also for what we do not do.” The reason why I picked this quote is because I think that if you didn’t do something that could have helped someone ,and it was because didn’t help.
I think people lack equity, or fairness. If people were less biased about other people, then people would treat eachother as equals and maybe approach others without judging them.
Equity-the quality of being fair or impartial; fairness; impartiality:
equity c.1315, from O.Fr. equite, from L. æquitatem (nom. æquitas) “equality, conformity, symmetry, fairness,” from æquus “even, just, equal.” As the name of a system of law, 1591, from Roman naturalis æquitas, the general principles of justice which corrected or supplemented the legal codes.
KINDNESS-
1. Quote- “We should behave to our friends as we wish our friends to behave to us” -Aristotle
I like this quote because I think that if we were kind to our friends, and they were kind back, then it’d be easier to have a friendship at all, it’s easier to base a friendship on good things, rather than anything else.
2. This quote means that you should be kind to your friends, if you want them to be kind to you.
3. I try to be kind to everyone, not just my friends. I don’t think that being rude will get me anywhere, so if I’m kind at least I know I didn’t do anything bad or treat anyone bad. Besides I wouldn’t like anyone being rude to me, and I wouldn’t like to give someone a reason to.
4. How does kindness effect the creation of laws? I suppose that if laws are “kind” then they will be fair to everyone.
Do those laws apply to you? Yes, laws apply to everyone.
In what way does kindness effect individual’s rights? If you’re kind you will most likely put other people’s needs before your own.
How does kindness affect freedom for all, safety for all? If everyone is kind, everyone is at peace, which wouldn’t put anyone at risk.
What if kindness were taken away for/from you? I would probably turn into a grouch, and be really mean which would make people distant from me.
What role does kindness play as far as making certain students have opportunities to grow? That they have a fair chance at trying something as anyone else would.
My word is respect. Respect is a very important trait. My parents have been teaching me respect since I was a little girl. I am usually respectful, especially to my elders. Yes, sometimes I am disrespectful but I usually realize it and apoligize. I read Mr. moshe’s post and its said..”is saying sorry enough?”. Saying sorry or apoligizing isnt enough in my family. You have to really prove that you are sorry one way or another. Respect means showing consideration, understanding, and regaurd for people, places, and things. Having respect for someone or something is showing that you are thoughtful and kind. Respect pretty much tells other people how you want to be treated. The quote I picked is “Respect your efforts, respect yourself. Self-respect leads to self-discipline. When you have both firnly under your belt, that is real power” I believe this is true but you also have to have respect for other individuals and not just for yourself. If you treat other people with respect, then other people will probably figure that you would like them to respect you. What I think the quote means is if you have respect for your wishes and your efforts then you have self respect. Having self respect and self discipline is a very powerful thing. If you have both then you can, yes, respect your wishes and efforts but also have self discipline when disrespecting yourself. This quote can apply to me because I have self respect and self discipline. I respect all my wishes and dreams and Im never giving up. Im always believeing in myself. But I also have self discipline when I disrespect myself. My definition of resect would be…being considerate and kind to one another and things. I like to be respected and im usually not friends with people that don’t respect me and other individuals and things. I don’t like people that disrespect other individuals and things. If you disagree then thats your opinion. Im just here to tell you what I think and thats exactly what I’m doing.
The word I got was respect, and my quote was “The young should be treated with respect” I like it because everything it says is true. Younger kids should be treated fairly and with respect. I picked it not because it’s short but because it makes sense and it’s the truth. I think it’s pretty self-explanatory, younger people should be treated respectfully or with consideration. It applies to me because I am considered part of the younger society and I deserve RESPECT!!How does ___respect_______ effect the creation of laws? Do those laws apply to you?
Laws are made with consideration and consideration comes from respect. Most laws are for people above my age.
—–I have two questions so far:
—–1-What is consdierd when laws are created?
—–2-Are you sure laws are for people above your age? What happens to yo if you
—–shoplift?
In what way does ____respect_ effect individual’s rights? What if there were no (one) ___respect_______ of/for you or yours? (remember what that expression means?)
Rights were made to show respect for others. If there were no respect for me and mine, there would be chaos because respect is the foundation of rights.
How does ___respect_______ affect freedom for all, safety for all? What if __respect________ were taken away for/from you?
Freedom was given for respect for all. Many people still lack certain respect because race, disabilities, etc. I barely have that much respect now, but if it was all taken away from me, my life would be even worse.
What role does __respect________ play as far as making certain students have opportunities to grow?
Respect is one of the keys to having opportunities to grow because having respect raises self-esteem and high self-esteem makes you feel like you can do anything.
—–Thanks for such a thorough post. Keep up the GREAT work!!
My word is tolerance (to be able to stand someone.) I chose the quote “People tolerate those they fear more than those they love.”To me, I dont necessarily think this quote is true since it depends on someones character. For example some people may act all tough in school and always get in fights and act up but after that they worry about what their parents are going to say. Also I would be able to tolerate my family more because I love them but if it was someone I didnt like then I wouldnt be so tolerable. I am very patient to what people have to say and i’d be able to sit there and just listen to them event though i’d just want to get up and leave.I think that without tolerence, people definately wouldnt get along so well. This would cause many problems for our society such as people constantly fighting and breaking laws because they just cant take it anymore and start fighting someone. Tolerance doesnt play that big of a role as far as in making students have opportunities to grow besides making them have more patience and being able to listen to someone oyu dont really like that much for a longer time.
—–Please edit/proof your post before you add it tot he discussion. You say some very strong things here, but it was hard for me to get it all the first time through. heck your writing before you post. Keep up the great thinking, Crina!!
My trait was self-control. My comment read”Everyone has patience;successful people learn to use it.”. I picked it because what it said was true. I like it because all of us need to think about this quote. It means from my point of view that everybody has patience and how successful people learn how to use it more wisely. this applies to me and everybody because we sometimes lose our patience when we should’nt, so we need to consider about how much patience weneed to have in certain stuations. This trait’s role in society is applied in many situations. For example, if you are getting annoyed you should just ignore the person and not give him/her any reason to continue.
Now, take out your sheet of paper from class. You should have a word web on it. You should have a quote, and for that quote you should have written down your idea of what is meant by it. You should have an idea of how that quote could apply to you.
1. Post your Quote with an explanation for why you picked it. Why do you like it?
2. Post what you think it means.
—————————————————-
MOST OF YOU ARE STOPPING HERE. IN ORDER FOR YOU TO (1) SATISFY THE ASSIGNMENT, AND (2) TRULY BE A CRITICAL THINKER, YOU WILL HAVE TO DO BETTER THAN THAT.
GO DEEPER. YOU MUST CONSIDER THINGS OUTSIDE OF YOURSELF.
YOU MUST ASK QUESTIONS.
—————————————————–
3. Post how you think it applies to you. Give examples of when you had to practice it, or when someone else had to for you.
4. Then explain the role ___________________ plays in society. You might like to take these questions one at a time – place your word in the blank. Some of the questions may not work for your term- you may need to use another form of the word in the blank, and/or you may need to change a preposition or two in the quesiton:
How does _________________ effect the creation of laws? Do those laws apply to you?
In what way does _________________ effect individual’s rights? What if there were no (one) _________________ of/for you or yours? (remember what that expression means?)
How does _________________ affect freedom for all, safety for all? What if _________________ were taken away for/from you?
What role does _________________ play as far as making certain students have opportunities to grow?
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
You see, in order to effectively think critically, one must be very clear of what we are speaking of. One must have a very detailed understanding of the topic.
It will serve you each as individuals to stay focused on your own term.
I would like to draw your attention to these bits from your classmates:
-i have learned to be open minded and judge people for how they treat me. if i dont know you then that doesnt mean i dont like you. i get to know people first. thats what my parents have always taught me.
—–Give us examples . . .
-Anyway my point is that if you don’t like me and I don’t like you, then don’t talk to me. It’ll make life a whole lot easier. Wait that wasn’t my point, this is my point: I let people go on with their lives and other people should do the same for others.
—–Give us examples of people (change the names to protect the innocent) do form judgements early – who decide they don’t like you before they know you. And maybe there is some truth to what you said initially “If you don’t like me and I don’t like you then don’t talk to me.” How can this be overcome?
-Respect is an important role in childrens lives and I’m sure parents have been teaching it to them ever since they were three, or two. I know my parents have, and even now when once and a while I may slip up and be disrespectful, I catch myself and relize that I was wrong so I say “Sorry”.
—–Do all parents teach their children to be respectful?
—–What can you do for those children (friends or strangers) who do not know how to be respectful?
—–Is sorry enough? What more can a person do who has been disrespectful and wants to make it right?
****These are just three examples of good posts, but there are more good posts and deep inside those posts there is a lot more to discover. ASK QUESTIONS OF YOUR CLASSMATES.
I will check back within the hour. I hope I see some critical stuff going on.
Happy discussing.
CRINA,
Hey there. I hope you’re enjoying your two days off.
I have to let you know that in order to get credit for the assignment, you have to post concerning your term from class.
Anything additional is extra credit.
Thanks !!
Mr. Moshé
People (in my eyes) need to have the mind of lucrativeness. This word means profitableable, money-making, etc. When you have this trait you are better off in life, than someone with a normal, average mindset. Since we all live in corporate world, we should all have somewhat of a corporate mind. The saying that I choose was quoted by Nelson Mandela, stating,”If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy, then he becomes a partner.” This catches my attemtion because if you want to overcome obstacles, you must befriend them, and they’ll befriend you.
My word was cooperation,it means to work with others to accomplish a common purpose.I choose the quote “A single arrow is easliy broken but not 10 in a bundle” because I ‘ve heard a from of it before, and becuase it was one of the ones I actually understood.I guess it means if you work with others instead of just by yourself you can accomplish so much more.
—-Yes, you are correct – “There is strength in numbers”
I think that other another trait is creativity.
My definition of creativity is when you think with your left side of the brain to make something unique.
The dictionary’s definition is the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.; originality, progressiveness, or imagination. A synonym for it would be craftsmanship or inventiveness.
Many people think that you only show creativity in a project that you do.However creativity could come in the form of how good you can write or how good you could arrange the Thanksgiving table.
Respect, some people have it and some people lack it,and unfortunitly most of the times people lack it. My qoute “Be a major difference in your own life,” it means a lot to me.I like this qoute because your future relies on the decisions you make on your pathway of adulthood
Honesty. Honesty is a trait everybody should have. Honesty is about being truthful and not telling lies. The quote I picked was “Honesty is the best policy.” I picked this quote because honesty IS the best policy and people should try to live by that, because the world is full of con-artistsand thieves and that needs to change.
The word i got was responsibility. Responsibilty is very important because you need to have it so you can be dependable to yourself and others!!! Responsibility is something or someone you rely on. My qoute was ” the ability to accept responsibility is the measure of the man”. To me that means that responsibility is one of the most important things in a man’s life.
—–Maria, I was surprised that you didn’t address the one sidedness of the quote. Is the ability to accept responsibility the measure of a woman’s life, too? I take this to the entire class – Speak a bit about this if you would.
Citizenship. Some people have it some dont it all depends on the person.Citizenship also is when you think of other people instead of yourself and being selfish. The quote I picked was ‘When people are searving life is no longer meaningless’.What that means is if you help and care for someone they will help and care for you.In my own words citizenship means to help others if needed.Well thats a lot of what I learned about citizenship and I hope I learned something from this.
Rachelle,
You said, “if the world around us lies to get their way like on the tv, on the street and work or school.”
What then? What would the world be like? Let’s take it down to the classroom level. What if the teachers lied to us to get their way? What about administrators, campus cops, guidance counselors, classmates?
What if the national weather servcie lied to us to get their way?
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE.
DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR MYsPACE PAGE ADDRESSES HERE.
I will have to start deducting points if this practice continues.
Thanks!!
The boldfaced text in the Blog is for extra credit on this assignment. If you work up some information on a character trait term that is not one of Broward Schools Core Traits, please bring with you any informaiton you find to class on Thursday.
Thanks!!
Responsiblity.Responsiblity is meeting the obligations by being reliable , accountable and dependable to self and others. Responsiblity is very important because we need to have to it . Some people depend on others to have responsiblity , like some teachers have students that are not responsible and do whatever they want and there not reliable . So its important in alot of ways .
i choose my quote ”ACT RESPONSIBLE ” because every1 should act responsible and i think its a good quote and goal some people need to acheive ..
—–not every1 – everyone, thanks!!
Cooperation. I think that cooperation is very important to the world. The quote I chose was “There is no ‘I’ in team.” I picked this quote becuase I felt that it got right to the point, and was exact. A team doesnt just consist of yourself, you need others to accomplish what you want to get done. It’s called teamwork, and teamork can’t be completed alone. You need cooperation. That’s why it’s very important in society. Without cooperation, everyone would be on their own. The world would never progress.
Oh yeah…ETYMOLGY is an account of the history of a particular word or element of a word. Yes i did look it up in the dictionary! 🙂 Oh, Rachelle I think your oppinion on honestly is very true! I’m sure everyone has been dishonest at least once in their life. Same thing to Danielle with responsiblity, keeping up grades!!!!
Respect can be used in society by any person whether they know a person or not. It can be used as a way to treat people instead of discriminating against them or not showing common courtesy.
The quote I picked was “Even if someone doesn’t treat you with the respect you deserve, you can give them the respect they don’t” from Sharon Hart. To me this quote means that if someone doesn’t treat you right, you can still treat them properly. Ways that I can use this quote in everyday life is in the event that someone who I know starts to treat me badly, I can still be nice to them and show them common courtesy.
Honesty. There are many people who lack honesty, though there are many people who have honesty. Honesty is the state of being truthful, trustworthy, & sincere. In my opinion, honesty is a big thing that everyone should use. I really don’t like liars..then again who does? Anyways, the quote I picked said “If you tell the truth, you dont have to remember a thing.” I picked this quote because I like how it’s saying that if you are truthful, then you won’t even have to remember a lie to tell. Also, you won’t have to worry about getting caught in a lie. If you just tell the truth then you wont have to worry about a thing. Not at all. My deffiniton [what honesty means to me] is when someone is real with you. Their not fake and can tell you the truth. Well, that is mainly what I learned & think about “Honesty.”
Respect? What is it? What does it mean? Respect is showing consideration, understanding and reguard for people, places and things. It effects individuals lives because alot of people base their relationships with other people on respect, wether it is their boyfriend, girlfriend, or maybe even just a friend. Personally I know that is how I choose my friends, if you respect me I may consider you as one of my friends. If there was no respect in my life I guess I would probably be a lonely person, could you imagine the entire world with out respect and everyone walking around saying what ever they pleased and not even caring what others thought it would me horrible. It would be even worse than polution. If respect were taken away from me, as I said, I probably would be very lonely… because respect is more than a trait it is thinking of other peoples feelings and thinking before you say or do, listening to other peoples oppinions. An inportant thing to always remember respect is not only toward individuals but to places and things. I know that sounds so werid how can you respect some “THING?” or “PLACE?” but it is true if you go some place and you did not like it very much and you came back home and started talking bad about it that is disrespecting that place and environment. Or if you write on a desk or something that does not belong to you that is disrespectful to who ever that “THING” may belong to. Respect is an important role in childrens lives and I’m sure parents have been teaching it to them ever since they were three, or two. I know my parents have, and even now when once and a while I may slip up and be disrespectful, I catch myself and relize that I was wrong so I say “Sorry”. Respect is one of maybe the easiest traits someone can learn and teach. That is why I chose the quote I did, which is…
“Who is respected? He who respects others.”
-Jewish Sages
I chose this quote because it is a true statement that I strongly belive in, and it means exactly what it says. If you show respect to others you will get respect in return. Respect is a two way thing kind of like trading, you should always get something back.
Everyone lies either to make to get their way, to make someone look bad, to keep a secret, or just to get away with being in trouble.
The quote I have chosen was “We must make the world honest to honestly say to our children that honesty is the best policy” because I honestly understand the meaning of it and its very true. I had difficulty explaining but I think the meaning of the quote is that our parents want us do have be honest but if the world around us lies to get their way like on the tv, on the street and work or school.
Responsibility. Some people lack responibility. My quote was “The ability to accept responsibility is the measure of the man.” I picked that quote because I believe that without responsibility a person can never grow as an individual, therefore they will never know how to feel responsilbe for something or someone other than themselves.I liked this quote because i feel that it is one of the strongest explanations for the word.I think it means that a person who has a lot of responsibilities and takes care of them showa a great amount about their personality.Responsibility applies to me because I have them and I think every other kid my age should too. This word plays a lot in society today because everyboby has them for example, the president he has the responsibilty to take care of the american people, even I have the responibility to keep up my grades in school, and our parents have the responsibility to take care of their children. If our world didn’t have responsibility nobody would take charge of anything ,or take the blame for thier responbility if they didn’t take care of it.
Kindness. Many people show kindness everyday. The quote that I picked was”Attitudes are contagious the question is. is your attitude worth catching”. This quote means if you have a good attitude your attitude is worth catching. If you have a bad attitude yours is not worth catching. I hope you understood that. I like this word because kindness is something people should show everyday but they chose to if everone was kind this whole world would be nicer. I think kindness means being friendly and compassionate. If you are kind to people people are going to be kind back.
My word was Tolerance. The quote that I picked was “Live and let live”. I liked this quote not only because it was short but because that is how I tolerate with most people. For example, some people say that I don’t have a lot of friends at school. I may not have as many as most kids do but really I don’t need more than three or four (at school anyway). There are some people that just really make me mad. I could be walking to lunch and meet up with my friend Amanda V. and be talking to her and one of her friends will start insulting me. I’ve told her about it but I have to deal because he is her friend. Anyway my point is that if you don’t like me and I don’t like you, then don’t talk to me. It’ll make life a whole lot easier. Wait that wasn’t my point, this is my point: I let people go on with their lives and other people should do the same for others.
Wow that was long. Sorry. Also in the blog were the writing is in bold print, is that homework? I didn’t understand that at all.
tolerance. many people do not have tolerance! we judge so easily and make our opinions on people so quikly that we dont even know their name. we look at the person and say. ewww he/she looks snotty. eww i dont like their cloths they must be weird. ive met a lot of people this year already that i like as friends, and i bet none of you would of guessed that they would intrest me in the least bit. i have learned to be open minded and judge people for how they treat me. if i dont know you then that doesnt mean i dont like you. i get to know people first. thats what my parents have always taught me. my thoughts are all jumbled up in this post. i hope you guys understand this.
