Freak The Mighty – Round 2
What if . . . Pick Kevin or Max.
The purpose of predicting is to illustrate that you know how to make inferences and use them to make reading more exciting.
What’s an inference when it comes to literature? As a reader you make inferences when you predict that something will happen based on details or facts from the text.
For this blog entry, you will make educated guesses about a main character’s choices based on knowledge that you have gleaned from reading the book. Your response to this blog will illustrate how well you understand the character you write about.
- Your response must take the form of a short paragraph – a paragraph is made up of a main idea sentence and supporting detail sentences. A good short paragraph would have 5 or more sentences.
- You must provide at least 3 specific examples from the novel that would convince me that your prediction is probable and possible.

I think max would go on vacation to the Rocky Mountains. He will do this because he is a very solem guy. Max likes to be alone, and from up there he can look down on everyone like he usually does.Up there he can really be with the clouds. os after the vacation he wont want to go down. 🙁
I think that Kevin will die from a strange disease. I think that because in the book Kevin’s doctor said that he has trouble breathing and he goes for check-ups every month. Kevin is puffing his chest out every now and then. Kevin told Max in the story that he was going to get a new body. Kevin also said that he is growing on the inside and not the outside. Thats why I think that Kevin is going to die from a strane disease.
I think that Kevin will die from a streange disease.Why? Well in the book, Kevin started to feel sick and his breath sopped. Also I think he will die from a disease because when he said that his insides were growing faster than the outside, I feel that his spine might curl too much and break.
I would pick the fourth one that says if ________ won a one million lottery ticket he would spend it on. I picked that Freak would spend the one million lottery ticket on a collection of medevil time stuff or build his own castle. Why I think that is because he always talks about the medevil times and the knights and king Arthur etc.. Also he knows alot because he reads the books about the medevil times.Thats what I think he would do with the one million lottery ticket
1) The main character Max, will probably die by being murdered. I say Max would be murder because of that gang that is always bothering him might go to far. Blade looks like he want to have his head since Max and Kevin was really close to being stapped by him on 4th of July. Also many people in the town thinks Max is going to become like his father since he is starting to look like him. So maybe someone in the town will do a hate crime and kill him or kill him because they thought he was his father.
2) If the main character, Max, could choose a vacation location, he would prefer camping in the Rocky Mountains because he would be around a little amount of people. He doesn’t have to put up with teasing and staring that he gets in his town. He would be by himself and could relax and go into that special place in his head. He seems to enjoy being with himself or with a few people that he can trust, like Kevin.
3) For his birthday, the main charcter Max, would like the following gift of a motorcycle because he is always complaining about how his feet are hurting when him and Kevin are walking around the town. If he got a motorcycle he would be able to go to place Kevin wants him to go faster and with less work. If he didn’t walk he wouldn’t get taller that people will break their necks to up at his face. Kevin and him would be able to go on more adventures.
4) The main character, Max, wins a One Million Dollar Lottery and must decide what to do with the money. His choice is to go hiding in the mountains because like i said before he enjoys being by himself. He would be able to get away from people who make fun of him or fear him. He can be alone where no one is criticizing his father or about how he looks like him. He doesn’t have to worry about school or his grades. He could be in his doesn’t have to worry anymore about what people think about him.
The main character Kevin, will probably die of a strange disease. I think Kevin will die because somewhere in the story, he mentioned to Max that he is going to get a new body. He says he is growing on the inside, but not on the outside. He will probably outgrow his body somehow. I also think that it’s not possible to get a “new body” but it is possible to get surgery done. Kevin tells Max that him getting a new body is a secret.
also in the book he compares kevin to a noble stead he would love the horses there. He calls the lunch food grule so he would love the soup they give, i’m asuming. Since he compares himself to a knight it would be cool for him to meet one.
If freak was to go on vacation he wouldn’t choose any of the listed choices. He would choose something that would spark his intrest. Since he is facinated with knights in shinning armor and noble steeds. He would love to go to Midevil Times. I went their for a six grade trip. It is toatal;y based on it’s name. Each person has a kingdom or something they cheer for. This “team” has team colors. The knights battle it off on horses against other knights. They serve Giant chicken or turkey legs and other theme related foods.The gift shops have many cool trinkets. On top of that the whole place teaches you about how life was back then. It has a blacksmith, a person who makes pottery,and more. That would be a cool trip for him. Since he loves that topic so much why not live in it for a day.
I think Kevin will die of a broken heart. I think this because he said “my insides are growing faster then my outsides”. This would make all of the insides of Kevin get all tight and pressure would build up inside of them. Eventually, the pressure would build up inside and things would start to pop, or break. Kevin also says that he goes to the research lab every 2 or 3 months to get x-rayed. That is why I think Kevin will die of a broken heart.
The main character Kevin, will probably die from b) of a strange disease, because even when he was young and had the fatal disease,he knew that he won’t live long.His inside would grow to big for his outside to keep up,since the illness kept his body from growing.Kevin was smart enough to figure out that he would die soon. He even goes to the medical research part of the hospital every few months, which I assume that they did experiments to try to save Kevin. Usually, people die from experiments too,but I think it brought some extra time to Kevin’s life.I bet that Kevin dies during an operation through.

I think Neha is right because Kevin is really smart. He already knows almost everything. A computer will help expand his knowledge even more. Also I think he was complaining about his old one.
I meant I think Kevin will die.
Also in the 2nd line it says th thats supposed to be the.
I think Kevin will doi of a weird disease because this is at this age stories don’t have to happy endings. Actually they never really do anymore. Something dramatic has to happen. Some examples from the story that lead me to this conclusion is that Kevin has a disease that he grows on th inside and not the outside. That doesn’t sound like it will lead to somethig good. 2) Kevin has to eat slowly or he will start weezing. That could make him have a heart-attack or something. Last is the experiment to get a new body seems dangerous. That could lead to death.
For Kevin’s birthday he would probably get a computer.I think he would get ta computer because it a computer cointains alot of information. A computer is also very resourceful and if Kevin wanted he could use it to look up anything. For example he loves King Arthur he could look up more information about him that he maybe didnt get from the book he was reading. Also instead of pulling out a dictionary everytime max doesnt know something which is almost always he coud use the computer which would be much quicker. Unless he gets a old anncient slow computer which therefore I dont think he should get it.

I would choose max and i would choose the second question because i think max would go to midieval times in orlando ,FL because he is obsessed with midieval times and king arthur and stuff like that so thats whta i think
I picked Kevin and I think that he will die of a strange disease. I think that he will die of a disease because he has to walk around in crutches and he has to go for check-ups very often. So I think that the birth defect will catch up with him and it might cause him to die.
i chose kevin. I think he will die of a disease. he always goes to that medical place because he really has health problems and lied to kevin.his heart is too big for his body and he wanted something to hope for.

If Max was able to win a million dollars.I think kevin would just give it to Max because he wouldn’t know what to do with it. Itstead he would give it to Kevin because that is his brain. I think Kevin would use it to bye educational instruments to help Max learn something. That’s basically what Max will do if he won one million dollars in the lottery.
4) If max has one a One Million Dollar Lottery then I believe that he would spend the money on Max. This is because he has helped max learn as in education and in knowing himself. Hes not all quiet anymore hes more out going and willing to make friends and he never would have got that way without freak. He also saved his life by being his brain when he needed one when he was in trouble.

Where would someone so big and tough like Max want to go? Think back, what does Max want most? He wants people to stop treating him differently. To go to a world where no one would judge him. In the book Max says that everyone is trying to throw a hug on him like its a medcine that he needs or something. Max would probably want to go to a place where there were no stories about his families past and no one was afraid of him. How would you react if everyone that saw you was scared or just shocked that you were so big. Max knows he has a lot of potencial and could be a nice person, actually he is a nice person. He just does not know it yet. So Max would like to go to a place where no one judged him, need I say more? Imagine yourself as Max just picture it you walk the world way up high and everyone looks at you differently. Either because of your size or your fathers past. Everyone that sees you knows you look like you father, even your grandparents don’t trust you. Theres really no one you can turn to. Then imagine a total different world that had nothing to do with your past and no one judged you, no one cared if you were a skyscrapper or a small tiny midget. Does it really matter? Think…Max does not like the person he is or does he?

I think Max would choose a vacation in the Rocky’s because, he occasionally pretended what Kevin said about castles and King Arthur and dragons as true. He could carry Kevin with him in his mind, and pretend the trees are dragons, castles, knights and horses,etc. He could study the area and write what he saw in the book Kevin gave him to write their adventures in. Also he could be alone in the mountains. He’s been depressed ever since Kevin passed and he might just want to be left alone for a while.
i chose Max as the main character and the first question.
1. The main character Max, will probably die: i chose E. I think if Max was to die he would be killed by his father. See i havent finished the book yet so i dont know what is going to happen. Max’s dad is very aggresive and rude. It is true he killed his wife even though he swears he didnt do it. So if he killed his wife he probably would have no problem killing his son if he needs to! Also when he was choking Loretta Lee and didn’t stop, and Max thought he wanted her to die. Which i think is very sad but thats just my opinion about his dad.
For his birthday, the main charcter Kevin would like the gift of a computer., because he i a smart person and he might need it in the future to do research etc. He could also use the computer to help Max out in school. Kevin can do alot of things with the computer. Thats why I think he will probbly want a computer.

I picked #3. Kevin would like a computer for his birthday gift , because he likes tecnology and stuff. He is a smart kid would problebly use his computer to read about King Arthur and do research or something. Also in the book it says that Kevin has been wanting a computer from one of his computer magazines for his birthday. He would also uses his computor to learn more about dragons and quests.
my character i chose was Freak and i chose the question what would he do with the money if he won the lottery
If Freak won the lottery i defenitly think he would use the money to travel.Freak always goes on these little adventures with max for fun. Like when they found the treasure and went all the way to the testiments to return the lost purse. Freak also enjoys just moving around place to place. Because he has bad legs he cant walk good, but since he has met Max, Max has been his legs.They go everywhere around town. With this money i think they would go everywhere around the world!
The main character Max will probably die E:other. I think he will die to a knife weilded by Blade. Max was depressed and made enemies with blade AGAIN and he will probably live to regret it…or not in my opinion. Max is big but he is a pushover, weak and only one person Blade has friends to help kill Max. Max also seemed very unhappy when Kevin died and he may end up killing himself if his life gets any worse he spends a lot of time by himself in the “down under” and may not be found dead in time to save him though I think he will die to Blade.
For Kevins birthday, Kevin will want a computer becuase Kevin has to be smart at everything. For a person who has a tiny body probably got a huge brain. When Kevin talks it like he talks right out of a dictionary. Maybe he can use that computer to learn new words or maybe make his own dictionary. He already made one by hand and he has already edited the webster dictionary. Also he can make great models of orinthopers and his other inventions.
For Kevin’s birthday he would like to get a computer. That’s because he already knows so much about the from reading computer magazines. Also he wants to show what he knows and to research things faster. Instead of looking for the word or subject in a book he could search it on his computer. In the book he did actually get a computer for his birthday. He sort of knew though. He was so anxious to turn it on, when he did he showed max’s grandpa how to play 3D chess.
Kevin will probably die of a strange disease. He is going to die of a strange disease because his insides are growing and not his outsides. His body can not have so much flesh in so little body. Also there is no cure. That’s why he will die of that disease which is strange.
If Kevin wins a one-million dollar lottery he would probaly buy a synthetic body because Kevin hates being called a dwarf of being picked on. Kevin really wants to fit in with everybody else, and not feel like an outsider.
The main character kevin, will probably die of a strange disease. This how he’ll probably die because he has a disease were his heart is growing and his body isn’t.
His heart will eventually get to big for his body. He also knows he is gowing to have a short life. So that is how he’ll probably die.

I think this is something Max would do only because he knows that Freak has some birth defect/disease. For this reason, Max might give all or some of his money to a charity that helps people like Freak. This would show the bond that has created between the two characters from the beginning to the end of the novel.

Here is my response to the blog——————
The main character, Max, wins a One Million Dollar Lottery and must decide what to do with the money. His choice is to give some or all of it to a charity or cause. Throughout the book, Max became very close friends with Kevin. Their friendship got so close as story progressed that I could only believe that is Max won a million dollasrs, he would use it to do something related to Kevin. One of the things Kevin did for Max was show him that he (Max) had a brain. Max found out that thinking is not such a challenge. He learned how to read and write better – a lot better than he did before they were friends. Becuase of this, he might use some of it to pay for a writing program that allows students to travel to different parts of the country. Students would be allowed to visit the birthplaces of major American authors, attend workshops and presentations about writing, and write and publish their own book.
I could think of a lot of different thigns Max might use the money for – a trip to visit England to see castles, a trip to visit a real King, a new house for Grim and Gram, this list can go on and on becuase the book leaves a lot of room for possibilities.

Max would propably die in a car accident because his father asked Iggy to get a car for him, they might be on the run after Iggy finds out that Max’s father almost killed Loretta and they are on the run from the grandparents and the police. Iggy could have stolen the car and the owner could have reported it and the police could have found it and they would have gone on a high-speed chase and probably would cash somewhere. Iggy might find out that Max’s dad almost tried to kill her because she tried to free him and Iggy might go after him. Also because the grandparents and Freak have sent out the police after him.
Storm, I agree with your prediction. In the book it states that Freak has a birth defect that made him stop growing at a certain height and gets him tired very quickly. I too think that Freak will die from a strange disease.
The main character, Max, wins ONE MILLION DOLLAR LOTTERY and must decide what to do with the money. His choice is to: c) go into hiding in the mountains. This sounds alot like something Max would do. I say this only because he is the boring/gloomy type of kid who would just go into the mountains all alone and sit up there doing nothing at all. Just looking down. Max is known to be boring and just lay under his bed in the “down under” and just think about nothing at all. That is what I think Max would do! COMMENT BACK!

I think your right, too. Your comment says stuff the doctors tell Freak, so I think your ‘prediction’ is very true!!!
The character I choose was Freak. The number I choose was 2; which is where Freak would vacation. I don’t think Freak would actually go to any of the places listed though. I think Freak would go to medieval times(the place in Orlando). I think he would go there because he LOVES the Middle Ages and he is very interested in learning more about it. There, he can actually pretend to be a knight or whatever and do some fun activites. It will make him really feel like hes in the Middle Ages, even more than he already does when he plays ‘medieval times’ with Max in his neighborhood. He will also meet new people who like the medieval times and could play stuff with them too so it would be funner than just him and Max playing.
