PICK ONE OF THESE TO ANSWER
- What, if anything, can we learn from the novel and apply today?
- Why did Wells write the book?
- The Time Traveller concludes that humans developed into Eloi and Morlocks because they sought to do what was easy; they had most of their needs met; their conflicts were eliminated. Why is the elimination of conflict and need negative?
- How does the Time Traveller feel about the idea expressed in the following nursery rhyme? Refer to Chapter 12 for help.
Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily merrily; life is but a dream.
Why did Wells write the book?
I think wells wrote the book because he wanted to warn us of the future if we keep treating the earth like we do now!
I think Wells didn’t tell us what happened to the time traveler at the end because he wanted to keep us thinking of all the posssibilities that could have happened to him. You know what they say a good book keeps you guessing.
Q: 3. Why is the elimination of conflict and need negative?
A: Both conflict and need keep the human mind sharp. As long as there is need for change, need for invention and need for provisions there will be humans willing to provide it. But if everything is simply handed over on a silver platter, there will no longer be a need, or even a will, for intervention. Why learn to perform an act that you can receive without effort? As long as effort is needed to be provided with contentment and necessity, there will always be someone willing to work for it through education or labor. Otherwise we may degenerate into the simple Eloi ourselves. The reality is there.
Kim L per 1, I absolutely agree with you. Humans are being brought to destruction and the only one at fault is ourselves. We can’t continue to simplify our lives or we’ll only end up destroying them. It’s already started and things will only worsen unless something is done, which I highly doubt.

The Time Traveler concludes that humans developed into Eloi and Morlocks because they sought to do what was easy; they had most of their needs met; their conflicts were eliminated. Why is the elimination of conflict and need negative?
Because without conflict and need man will require not worry or fear or to think critically. Without these grave things man will digress as seen in the morlocks and eloi. They no not why or what they are here for they just live, breath, eat and sleep which leaves room for nothing at all beyond simplicity.
Nia replies:
Yet there was fear, so not all the room they left was full simplicity. because they learned to fear the morlocks they learned of danger. 🙂
i agree with tiffany P.1 the eloi don’t have to worry about anything which gives them no problems
Chapter X
What does the Time Traveler conclude about mankind’s intellectual advancements? Use details and information from the chapter to support your answer.
The Time Traveler believed that mankind’s intellectual advancements were “brief” as he states, “I grieved to think how brief the dream of the human intellect had been.” The Time Traveler concludes that the advancements had come to a stop completely and had been entirely killed of as he says, “It had committed suicide.”
Chantelle M, some of the places where they sell the book are at barnes and noble, borders, online or you can borrow it from the library. But You can simply just read it for free online.
______________________Chapter 10 question_______________________________
What the time traveler concludes about mankind is he said the law of nature that we overlook too often. He also concludes that intellectual versatalitys are the the compensation for change, danger, and trouble. He also quote on quote says”An animal perfectly in harmony with its environment is a perfect mechanism.
Nature never appeals to intelligence until habit and instinct are
useless. There is no intelligence where there is no change and no
need of change.” This quote pertains to real everyday life because if you dont learn anything and you just use what nature gives you then you are basically free.
i disagree with sebastian r p3,the time machine is not a cliffhanger.cliffhangers somewhere in the writer head have a ending,or the writer got writers block. but with the time machine wells was not sure about the ending, there for he was not able to end it.the easiest way he could do this, was to leave the story at climax, were he could later add on to.
The Time Traveller decided to travel to the end of the world because he wanted to know how mankind involved or how they intellectually invovled and he found out they didn’t invovle they just erased or their troubles and became bland, boring, etc.
Q3
i thlnk wells dosen’t tell us what happened to the time traveller in the end ,to add to the suspense. it’s away to say things could possiblely change.the end of the story is still determined by mankind. after all it was just his prediction of the future.
I am pretty sure we were supposed to answer the questions in bold on our own sheet of paper and take them to Mr.Moshe. We were supposed to pick one of the questions under the bold ones and post our answers to the bog.
3 The Time Traveller concludes that humans developed into Eloi and Morlocks because they sought to do what was easy; they had most of their needs met; their conflicts were eliminated. Why is this elimination of conflict and need negative?
The elimination of conflict and need is negative because it eliminates the need for work. Since neither one of them had to work because their needs were met there was no need for intelligence. That is why their intellectual level was so low because it was not needed. Thous, making the perfect society. Although it may seem perfect it is not because the Morlocks want meat and there is no other meat but that of the Eloi.So the Morlocks become the Eloi’s enemy. The Eloi though do nothing because they don’t know how to defend themselves because there was no need to know how before the Morlocks decided to feed of the Eloi.
The Time Traveler decided to visit the end of the earth because he wanted to know what will happen in the future because he already knows about the past.
Q.Why did Wells write this book?
A.Wells wanted people to realize the future might not be as good as it seems. He just wants people to wonder what the future might be like in thousands of years to come.
I’m still not exactly sure if we were supposed to answer the questions under the ones in bold or the ones in bold but since I have an answer for one in bold, I’m going to answer one of the questions underneath the ones in bold.
————————————————————————
Q: Why did Wells write the book?
A: I think Wells wrote the book to entertain us and to give us a hidden lesson, I’m not exactly sure what that is. I think this because whenever I read the book, I feel that there has to be something more to it other than what is written.
I wasnt to sure how many things we had to post 2 get full credit was it 1 or 2. Cause Mr.Moshe said something about posting a response or something i wasnt really listening.
where are some places that sell the book???
Im posting #2, Why did Wells write this book.
HG Wells wrote this book to encourage us to think about what the future will be like. If it will really be as much of a utopia as we imagine it to be. In most stories about the future, the author writes about a place with an advanced race and newfound discoveries, where people live forever and where their level of intellect is much higher than ours at the present moment. What HG Wells did was to give us a different perspective of the future and sort of bring us back to reality. What if the future is not really perfect? How can we avoid the future there is in the book? It gives us room to ponder such questions as those. The future in the book was far from perfect. The Morlocks were savage beasts and the Eloi were idiots who were not fearful in the light but are fearful in the dark. And this future is the result of mankind turning on each other and ultimately dividing itself into two groups: Morlocks and Eloi. Wells wanted to warn us that if we continue to fight and go to war and not work together as on race, one brotherhood, we might ruin the future for ourselves and turn it into a world where we are divided and have to be afraid of each other. I think this is a great book in how Wells makes you think about that possibility.
SORRY MR.MOSHE`,IT WAS LATE I THOUGHT IT WAS DUE THURSDAY!
3). The elimination of conflict & need are negative, because all diseases were eliminated & no longer caused death, because of what the Eloi ate. Their needs are negative, because once the Eloi & the dark are gone(“Ch.12 the sun doesn’t set.”)what are the Morlocks going to do & eat?????
-CAN I GET A LATE GRADE PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Chapter 12
Why do you think that Wells doesn’t tell you what happened to the Time Traveller in the end?
I think Wells dosent tell us what happened to the Time Traveler because he wants to keep us guessing. The ending makes you wonder whether he came back to his present time or stayed in the future with Weena. The author Wells wanted the readers to create an ending using our imagination.
H.G.Wells wrote the book because that was what he thought the future would be.He thought that by the choices we make that that was what the world was leading to.
I think H.G wells wrote the book to entertain the reader since it was clearly fictional.Obviously, not only for mere entertainment but to give a perspective a of how the earth will be like in the future.
Chapter 12 question.
I think that wells doesnt tell you what happens to the time traveller because he wants you to think.Wells wants us to imagine and conclude what happens to him.wells really made us think about what happens to the time traveller and it shows that he is a good author by leaving the book with a cliff hanger.
Chapter 10 A:
The time traveller concluded that mankind’s advancements had disappeared. He said it commited suicide which means there wasn’t any advancement. It kind of disappeared and became less and less advanced.
Tiffany,
You are correct in your interpretation of the assignment. . .
I think what Mr.Moshé was trying to say is to do the 3 questions on top, then pick 1 of the 4 other questions below the others.
——————————————————–
Then, you can pick any 1 of the 4 questions you answered and post one of them to the blog
To answer your question April, you answer one of the bottom questions.
I answered to,”Why did Wells write the book?”
In my own opinion, I personally think that Wells wrote the book because he wants the reader to ponder about the future. He wants us to grasp the idea that the future won’t necessarily progress. Maybe instead, it end up regressing until it gets too simple.
Yeah, I … uhhh… over-looked the “12:00 AM” part when I read “Due Sunday” … so… points off for me!

Chapter XII
Why do you think that Wells doesn’t tell you what happened to the Time Traveller in the end?
Wells doesn’t say what happened to the Time Traveller in the end because, for one, the cliff hangar at the end keeps you thinking of the endless possibilities: where in time the Time Traveller went, if he’ll ever come back after the story’s end, etc. Number two, Wells didn’t want to spoil the idea that he had created in the beginning. He had a first-person view in the story, listening to the Time Traveller’s story and passing it on into a book. If the Time Traveller never came back, how would that person ever hear about it to record it? They wouldn’t.
Answer to number 2
Wells’ sci-fi book was written to let people view the future in another perspective. Showing how could humanity eventually destroy itself. And leave the world turn out to be anything but civilized. A world with no technology advances. A world with the remain humans whom had divided into two opposing forces. The group of Morlocks were trapped down in the Underworld and they return in a deformed appearance. And the Morlocks use the best possible source of food, the other group of humans: the Eloi.
Chapter 12 question
I think he didnt tell us what happened to the time traveller in the end becuase he wants to keep the story open-minded and he wants the reader to try and make another conclusion by themself.
Quesiton 3.
The Time Traveller concludes that humans developed into Eloi and Morlocks because they sought to do what was easy; they had most of their needs met; their conflicts were eliminated. Why is the elimination of conflict and need negative?
I believe that the elimination of conflict and need is negative because without it you can never grow. Wells tried to show us this in the book with the Eloi. The Eloi at the beginning of the book were supposedly living a great life with no problem free from all trouble but after the Time Traveller continued to observe them he realized that the Eloi were basically on the intellectual level of a two year. And at the end of the book he explained (somewhat in really big words)that because the Eloi were living this so called “perfect world” they didnt really grow as we do. For example, we need house to live in. Since the Eloi dont really need anything the just say whatever and they all sleep together in this little area place.
why is the elimination of conflict and need negative?
The elimination of conflict and need is negative because
it allows people to be heartless, crule, insane, dumb, etc. By eliminating these things, people change from their original design and are turned from the way they were originally intended to be. For instance, because of the elimination of conflict and need, the eloi did not mind when they noticed (if they noticed at all) Weena drowning. They just kept going about their own business. In the movie, they didn’t mind the Morlocks eaying or killing the Time Traveller. They felt no need to save him. But, us being people who have not yet eliminated need and conflict, would’ve tried to save the Time Traveller and Weena(or would we??).
QUESTION:WHAT,IF ANYTHING,CAN WE LEARN FROM THE NOVEL AND APPLY TO TODAY?
ANSWER:I THINK WHAT WE CAN LEARN FROM THE NOVEL AND APPLY TO TODAY IS THAT BEING DIFFERENT IS OKAY. THAT IF WE ALL LOOKED THE SAME WE WOULD JUST HAVE A BORING LIFE, AND WE SHOULD BE HAPPY THAT WE HAVE RESPONSIBILITES BECAUSE WITHOUT THEM WE WOULD END UP LIKE THE ELOI AND OR THE MORLOCKS, WITHOUT NOTHING TO DO AND WITHOUT NOTHING TO HOPE FOR NOT CARING IF WE SAW ANOTHER DAY.
Teresa you have to post to one of the questions in bold
I agree with danielle, I also think Wells wrote this book to show that we should look at the world in a sterotype way. He wrote this book to give us another to look at the world, kind of like a “what if” book.
Chapter 10:
Q:What does the Time Traveller conclude about mankind’s intellectual advancements? Use details and information from the chapter to support your answer.
A:The Time Traveller concludes about mankind’s intellectual advancements in futirity id that it had basically come to an end, where evrything was at comfort and ease, had a balanced society with security and permanency as its watch word. “No doubt in that perfect world there had been no employment, no social questions left and unsolved. And a great quiet had followed.”
i agree with lauren gr., when you take need away from life theres nothing to live for.
Chapter 12
i think the author doesn’t state what happened to the time traveller because he wants us to think about what might happened to him.
Answer to question 3:
I think that Well’s didn’t finish the book because he wants us to use our imagination and personality when we think about things like the time traveler. I mean, isn’t that critical thinking? We have to think about what is going to happen because things aren’t always planned.
In this case I would have to agree with Ashlyn, Well’s does want us to use our imaginations and let it soar. Let the end of the story be what we want it to be.
Wells wrote this book to show his readers that not all sterotypical secptic about the future has higher technology and higher intellectual being is all true.He decided to change it up and sort of make the future like a thrid world country, in terms of technology and education.
Chapter 11 question: When the time traveller had come in contact withe the large crabs right after he had escaped the Morlocks he was determined to find out what the earths fate was in the end, so he continued to go into the future.
I agree with ashley f. pd. 5, nothing is really happening between the two species.
I’m really confused. Do we post one of the chapter questions or the ones not in bold?
Lauren Gr. I totally agree with you.
Q: The time traveler concludes that humans developed into eloi and morlocks because they sought to do what was easy;they had most of their needs met;their cnflicts were eliminated. Why is the elimination of conflict and need negative?
A: because there is no need to socialize or discuss anything, since there is no competition, especially in between the two species. Also because they have no real purpose for living, so basicaly, they have nothing to worry about.
——————–
Lua, it says the time traveler visited the end of the earth towards the end of chapter 11.
i dont understand do we have to post one of the 4 questions at the bottom of the blog too or just answer them?
ch.11
Why does the time traveller decide to travel to the end of the earth?
The time traveller goes to the ends of the earth because he is curious about the earths fate. He travels thousands of years into the future to find out whats hes going to find at the end of the world. He also has a strange fascination with the changing of the sun and how it gets bigger and fades in the western sky. He comes to find out or it seems to him to be lifeless.
Sabine P.2, no u dont have to do all the questions under the ones for ch. 10-12. Just pick one, answer it, and post it in the blog.
I agree with Connie L. because Wells wrote the book to show us how the world may end up if we don’t change our perspective of it.
