Week Three Question 4
Enemies of the Patriot’s cause felt the need to destroy the place where The Liberty Tree newspaper was printed. In your response for discussion, please adress the following questions:
- What do you think this says about the power of the press?
- Can you think of a recent example in which a newspaper became a powerful tool in waging war or impacting world politics?
The press can do many things to people’s minds I mean the press is one of the few sources of infomation people have so they use it. They can alter things because most people did not know what really happening so they have a big effect on people.
During world war two they had all kinds of propaganda to show people for them to change there mind.
Power of the press has always been a very influential part of the people (in whole’s) decision and outlook on many important views on things; be it political or not.
Take tabloids, they exploit stars and have their readers wanting more simply because its intresting to the ear. These same readers will then pass on the knowledge that they have just recently picked up from the local tabloid. Thus, causing seeming true but could be false rumors. This in turn will cause commotion and uprise and the ruining of the star’s career as they know it.
…….This is the power of the press.
This is the very same reason that the British sought out to destroy the Libery Tree. For the more print and publication of this newspapper they felt that the people will pick up their own views of the war. The british wanted the people to know only one side of the war the british side. If people were to get a hold on the other side, new views would be seen and the people would commence the speculating of their own views. These views could still remain loyal to the king but could also be upon the opposing side.
I think that what this is saying about the press is that it was one of the most powerful and useful things people had. I mean what else could it mean because why would the enemies of the patriots risk so much to destroy the printing shop if it wasn’t because of its importance to the patriots.
It’s not really that recent but anyway, the newspaper tells us about the war and who has died, how many have died, if we are close to ending this war or just simply letting us know about the future plans for the war.
– The power of the press can persuade the minds of many, take the Boston “massacre” for example, only about seven people died but through the press they exaggerated it and rallied many troops on their side. If used correctly the press can twist the minds of many.
-The only recent examples I can think of are all the elections. Through the press politicians “mudsling” (ruin each others reputations) and possibly persuade more people to vote for them.
What do you think this says about the power of the press?
Can you think of a recent example in which a newspaper became a powerful tool in waging war or impacting world politics?
–>I think this says the power of the press is well very powerful. Considering all the people have access to it. So rumors and or facts spread quickly.
–>I cant think of a recent example. But I do know that the war in Iraq is always being talked about in the news. And paper. They show who has died. And that gives useful information to families.
~I think that the press has alot of power on what people think. The press is one of the only ways that we can get information so we are forced to believe whatever they say is true.
~I cannot think of a recent example but I know of one. The “Boston Masacre” is one example. THe name makes it sseem like hundreds of people died when in reality only a few shots were fired. This led to hostility towards different opinions which in turn led to a war.

When the enemies of the Patriot’s cause felt the need to destroy the place where The Liberty Tree newspaper was printed, I think it says that the power of the press wields titanic sovereignty – it’s a grievous bump in the road for those who want people to see eye to eye to them; newspapers could persuade its readers either to endorse or dissent issues. An recent example in which a newspaper became a powerful tool in waging war or impacting world politics is when the newspaper print out an issue dealing with the loathsome catastrophe of
deaths occuring in Iraq today, which is causing many Americans to scorn the war and longing to send the troops back home.
> i think that this says that the power of the press has let the enemies
of the patriots have to much freedom to speak whats on there mind because they feel that they need to destroy the place where THE LIBERTY TREE NEWSPAPER WAS PRINTED;NO I CANT present an example in which a newspaper became a powerful tool in waging war or impacting world politics ,…………sorry but i need to start reading the newspaper more
I can’t think of a time when the newspaper was used as a powerful tool to start a war or impact world politics but I don’t think that it was right for the enemy to burn down the printing press. When they burned it down, that says that the paper, or the people that print the paper, don’t have a right to print what they want about what is going on around them.
