To me life is everything. I have lost many important people in my life, and I can truthfully and honestly say that its not something you would ever want. In life you need to do things people wont get the chance to ever do. As longs if your alive you can do anything you want to do, you always have the oppertunity to do anything you want to, you just need to reach for it. So I agree with people who say you need to do things you might regret or you might not before you dont have the chance. If your here with your own life you can do anything you want to do, its your life and you need to live it before you no longer have this thing we call life. It is so wonderful, it surrounds you, everything is related in some way back to life. Someone had to make or discover everything, and design the way it would be made. Our world is life, it is everything. Its the real thing, its not make believe, its not magic. But it is something that brings everyone together, no matter your religion, your nationality, or gender.

Life has a timer where you decide what to make of it. You don’t notice when it’s draining but you notice when it’s done. So you know what you can do, so you do what you can. And i believe that none of you here are wrong, you take life and interpret it however you want to. That’s why we do what we do because with the little time we have here we use it to what we value.

I must say that Angel, your paradox through me for a loop, but I definitely agree with your position, except I think you might have missed out on some key details. You talk of life as if it is a mere story and everyone being main characters and supporting characters, but where is the connection between them all? Where is the bond that is truly a necessity to life as we know it? No one can ever be successful on their own, EVER. Family, friends, teachers, everyday strangers that walk past us affect our lives and without these “supporting characters” then our main character plot would be absolutely nothing. Mr. Moshe, your paradox of having a destination at every moment in your journey to the destination also through me for a loop. I think that your perspective on life was a good one and I respect that, but maybe if you think about it, is our destination planned? Angel mentioned it in his comment, I was just wondering if you thought of it this way as well. My personal view on life may somewhat encompass the idea of making every moment count, but people seem to think that it is only good to make the moment for themselves. Like I said before, no one can ever be successful without others. I think making every moment count for everyone around me including myself makes up life. Evolution started with the simple bacteria… where would you be without that bacteria? I might be ranting a little bit, but truly I think that life cannot be defined as one answer. All people have a unique perspective on life and I respect each and every one of them, but stop and think for a moment what life would be like without the people around you affecting your life. The connection and bond between us living organisms is essential to all of our main characters’ plots.

To live means to deal your experiences and learn from them. You can’t do this by sitting in your room all day, watching television. Don’t be lazy, get up and do something. Laziness is not the way to go, some people have learned this the hard way. People don’t go through life doing nothing. Do something that you would be proud of. Don’t be the person spending your life trying to play catch up. Be the one you would be proud to be. Stop letting life pass you by. Stand up and celebrate because life is a wonderful thing to have.

Some people say that doing the same things every day is not living. I think that to successfully live, you have to enjoy every moment. If you enjoy what you do daily, regular everyday things, then imagine how much fun you would have if you went out of the routine once in a while. Those would be special moments in your life.
They also say that you should do things you always wanted to do because other wise you would regret it later. I disagree, if your excuse for doing something dangerous and crazy is that its ok because you were having fun and thats what life is about… really? What? “You Only Live Once”, that doesn’t mean you should do everything you want to do, it means you should THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU DO before you do it. If you keep doing dangerous stunts then if one goes wrong you wont have a life to live anymore.

I like the song and it ties to what the topic is about. I had a shirt that says “Everybody dies but not everybody lives” this quote was in the song and was said by Drake. The purpose of life is not just to breathe and move. For example when people go to school they sit there and do the work just because they are told they have to do it. They have to get something out of it and actualy have a pirpose for doing the work. Live comes with ALOT of disapointments that only make the people who actualy try and succeed stonger.

I have to agree with the comments above, doing normal things every single day is not living. Despite the fact whether it may be fun or not, you need to break the rut! Do something that gives you butterflies, overcome fears, make a difference. If you don’t like a situation, don’t run from it. Instead fix the problems and always stay positive. Everyone says that life is unfair, but is it? It’s only unfair when you decide to let negativity get in the way and ruin your whole outlook on life. Life is life, it’s in your hands. So brace yourself and get ready for the worst to come. Like a very wise person once said, “You have to go through the rain, to get to the rainbow.”

To me to live means making memories and taking chances. Im a really spontanious person and if i think of something i automatically do it beacause when im old i dont want to think to myself ” wow what if i had done that” i really dont want to have what if’s beacuse i dont want to regret not doing anything. Most people say well living is just breathing , think , & walking well if we only do that then life would be boring ! all of us being the same we need originallity and uniqueness .What some people see could be totally different then what other people see like beauty it takes the right person to see it and thats be original and thats means living ! Sometimes you feel down and you dont feel good about yourself and just feel plainly down but then when you think of it they are just bumps in the road that you have to over past that and grow. Sometimes you have to take risks and chances like falling in love theres a good chance of getting hurt in the end but you’ll never no if you dont try. So to me living is making memories and taking chances.

I agree with Michelle and Brenda, your life is sopposed to be what you make it. You don’t know what tomorrow will have in store for you, or if there will even be a tomorrow. Everyday when you wake up you should look at it like you have another moment to live life, you have another chance to inspire and learn, to love and forgive. Each moment you have on this Earth should be spent as though it was your last.

To live is to be yourself. Direct your own life. To be your own boss and not let anyone tell you otherwise. The satisfaction of knowing you’ve possibly left a positive mark on someone else’s life. That you caused one or even more out of billions of people to forget about the hardships of life, to give them the joy of life, to be able to FEEL the joy of life within your bones. That is living.

You shouldn’t be afraid to let yourself go sometimes and just have fun & LIVE! There is so much to do, like being with your friends and enjoying the moment. I know when I’m with my friends we just go crazy & do whatever and those make the BEST memories.
There is just sooooooo much more to living than just playing your favorite video game or just sleeping, go ice skating! Do something you’ve never done before, overcome your Biggest fear!!!!!! That’s living.

I agree with a lot of people. To live is to breathe, to be alive, living life to its fullest, just being all that you can be. It’s continuing to have life. Living is like going on through each and every single day while enjoying it. Here’s a quote from Albert Einstein that I thought was pretty interesting: “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as thought everything is a miracle.”

Out of all of these comments i agree with Dessie’s the most expecially when she said that “Have amazing friends, have a really good education, be surrounded by people you love while having fun.” Becasue that is a big part of living in my opinion. Friends can be amazing or just amzingly beneificial. You always have amazing friends no matter what you do in your life, they could be amazingly beneificial because you learn most of your life lessons from your friends. Sometimes they tear you down and you learn how to be the bigger person and hold you head up high while things arn’t looking well for you. Then when those friends or you realize how much of jerks you guys were acting you both learn how to forgive and to forget. You should always have fun in your life no matter what happens to you dont let the life that your LIVING slow you down when all you have to do is change it. It is your life you should try to live it to the fullest and get the most that you can get out of the world thats in front of you. By the time you finish on this earth you should have no regrets ever. And that would be what i think is living.

Everybody got their way of thinking about live, live to me means that you got to give everything you have to try to make your dreams come true and forget about the past, because you are now in the present and just prepare for the future. Try to enjoy everything you do and with all the persons around you, try to understand other persons so have a open mind.. Enjoy even things that you don’t like and also be positive. There’s only one life so give everything for it. Mistakes can help you build up your future so don’t worry if you make them just try to learn from them. Do the things you love and enjoy every moment of your life, because there’s many people that would love to be in your position.

To me, living means to go with wherever your life takes you. You can’t plan your life out, and you never know what will happen. Your whole life can change in a matter of seconds, but you have to know how to react to these changes because it’s part of your life. I think living is to gain something from your experience and the changes that life brings you.

Philosophical questions like this usually get redundant, and everybody is shooting for the right answer, or for something acceptable that doesn’t make them look like different. Whether it be what they saw on a TV show or something they have heard for their entire life. I’m not picking on anybody. Just think and form your own opinion on something. I see a very average answer coming from everybody. Live it to the fullest, with friends, love, mistakes, and Nikki Minaj. If you just sit and think, you’ll find out there is much more than off the top of your head. To me, life is something that isn’t thought of enough. Just think of it, it is normal to wake up, walk, think, breathe, talk, and do things. But is it really normal? Did you stop to think of what goes on away from us in the lifeless vast universe. Don’t just think of trillions of miles away, but away, in other people’s minds. The ever expanding difference that will never stop, like the universe.
Now in your life, you are the main character, and there are a lot of supporting characters, other people. But did you ever stop to think, that they think like that, you aren’t a main character anymore. You are one of the supporting characters. There 7 billion main characters, but they are all supporting characters. It’s a story without a story. Life is something that isn’t written, but designed. Not acted, but played out. We can’t change the future, or the past. We can’t even change the present. If you decide to turn left instead of right after reading this. You didn’t change anything. The present is the future of yesterday. You would’ve done that. That is life. We can’t change it. But we don’t know what will happen next.
What impacts the quality of our lives? Perspective. The kids in Africa with Joseph Kony would love to be in your position. You would love to be in a famous persons position. That rich person is probably featured in a bad magazine article because of what they did. If you let anything get to your head, to change your perspective of life, it will just seem like a very negative life.
So what I’m saying is. It IS the destination that is important, since it was all planned out, you would get there anyway.
And Mr. Moshé, I think Jontavius meant conquer.

I love the way your head works things over. Keep growing in your own personal direction knowing you don’t have a say in the matter. Or do you? Or did you? Or will you? Ever? I am of school of thought that says it is the journey that matters. Only in every instant am I actually at any place I was ever destined to be. My destiny is at every moment’s destination and every moment’s destination is a stopping point on my journey. Something I can reflect on and hug to my very soul because it made me who I am. Noting of my percieved outcome ever could measure up to what I am supposed to appreciate about right now. I believe that I will never reach my destination, and I know this from personal experience, because Iwas already there…The journey? Oh yes, that I can own. All the time. I always did own it. The thing is I didn’t know I could own it for a long long long time. My life has been a series of plans to get to a destination I thought I was supposed to reach only to find that my plans had to change. The destination, for me is the journey. As long as I remember that right here is right where I’m supposed to be, then I can enjoy the journey and have it, feel it, laugh at it, cry in it, and leave it when I have to. ANd I think that if you pause to allow my ideas to brew a bit, you might find that you and I agree on the journey and the destination. And maybe not. This is one of those age old notions that will never be worked out. And I agree with the masses here – love, family, friendship, mistakes – all necessary, even nikki minage as much as every other artist that makes it big.
Thanks for the correction with Jontavius. I agree. He must have meant that after a reread.

To live is to live life to the fullest, enjoy it, and enjoy it with the people around you.
I believe that accomplishing goals is important. When you really want something, you give it all you got and you go for it. Once you have it, you enjoy it. To live is to get through obsticles that come to you throughout your life time. Obsticles will bring you down but you have to get back up.
“Obsticles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal”
It’s better to do something great that you want instead of looking back and regretting that you didn’t do it when you had the chance! The great things we do will be kept as memories. When you’re a little old lady or man sitting on your rocking chair (hehe), wouldn’t you want to look back and know you did all you could to live your life to the fullest and enjoy every precious minute of it? 🙂

When I read this discussion question for the first time I knew there would be a lot of different responses, like I said before, living life is different for each person. Some of these responses have inspired me to make most of a lot of my time. I mean this year has flown by so fast, and you’re only young once; so I really need to make each second count. Life is precious. One day you think you could be living life to the fullest, and the next day it hits you like a ton of bricks- you’re not! Just like Montag, he thought his life was the greatest! Until he met Clarisse and he realized what a fool he had been for ever doubting the power of knowledge. Now to him it seems like there is not a moment to lose to get his life back on track, and truth is there isn’t. Montag’s crisis happens to everyone at some point, and it’s your job to see that life is turned back into the right direction again. (And yes, I did just connect this to Fahrenheit 451!!!) So live life in each one of you guys’ unique way, and remember: you are only young once.

” I wish I could have this moment for life ” , are just some of the words that Nicki Minaj says, and we really do want to live the most beautiful memories and when they end its a disappointment. But don’t regret them. Because at that moment that’s what you exactly wanted. Living can be painful , and especially when someone breaks your heart, but don’t let that bring you down. Get back up on your feet, and keep on going! Life is precious , and life is short. Don’t spend your time crying about what you could have done, but be happy it DID happen. Live your life, and face your challenges, and keep on going! You should never be afraid of “living.”

I am really enjoying this thread. I can see students really putting thought into this question, and I have to say I am impressed. The responses are phenomenal, inspiring, and help bring life back into perspective. I would not have been able to guess these were coming from 8th grade students. I would like to take a moment now to tell all of our students to please live by your words. Most adults would love to have the opportunity to be back in your shoes in order to achieve goals long passed, enjoy moments we missed, and have those bonds you have with your friends. Now, I am not saying being an adult is no fun and games at all, but life only goes in one direction and there is not a moment to waste. Just today one of my students (oh boy..this one…) asked me about my high school. This made me think of the many good times I had, the teachers that inspired me, and the great amount I was able to learn and grow. Memories like this will stick with you forever so make them the best you can! Just remember, no matter how daunting your tasks are, how melancholy (oh yea, I used it) you sometimes feel, or how strenuous your activities may be, at least you do not have to teach a classroom of 35 8th graders. I agree with Cindy. To live without mistakes is never going to happen. Even those people who say they are perfect and when they make a mistake they try to cover it up. I was watching a tv show one day. There was a “perfect” girl on the show. If she ever made a mistake she would kill herslef because there was no point of living if you made mistakes. I think everything contributes to life. Making mistakes, making them better, and having dissapointments are some examples. If you never have thise things then your not living and when they do come you won’t know how to deal with them.

Yes, Mr. Moshe’. What I meant is that everybody lives like as in breathing, thought, physical stuff, but not everybody gets to fullfill their life with meaningful stuff for them. Some people just are living a dull, boring life (like Mildred in the book Farenheit 451) and another perfect example of someone who is “living” to the fullest may be Clarisse, who is very energetic, thoughtful, and everyday she wonders how such things work and how they came to be.
Another thing to add on to ” Everybody lives, but not everybody lives” is a reference to a verse in a song ” Everybody dies, but not everybody lives” It’s pretty much the same thing just worded differently.

To live, what live means to me is to be a person moving towards there goals being, positive, and productive. I also think of it as a person that gives there 100% in everything, a person with good energy. What makes my life enjoyable is spending time in the beach on a nice hot day, being responsibile with all my things 24/7 so that my responsibilitys does not bunch up and get me stresses out even more (thats the reason I’m doing my homweork), and last but not least play soccer eveyday.

To have mistakes and disappointments in life means to “live” to me because people learn from them. I wouldn’t know how to “live” without mistakes and disappointments in life. Life is really boring if we don’t have the mistakes and disappointments we have because you don’t learn anything. What makes the quality of my life great? It would be my family and friends. Without them, I wouldn’t have any confidence or motivation. They help me with my quiet and shyness but most importantly, they love me for who I really am and that’s what makes life complete. To start a life, you have a to do list. You start out by making friends and talking to them. Start getting to know people and see what you have in common. It’s a great experience. Socialize with your family and ask them how their day was. I couldn’t “live” without my family and friends! We’ve been through so much together and it would be heartbreaking to see them go away. This is what it means to “live”.

The means by which we live have outdistanced the ends for why we live. To live is enjoy every moment you can, and to not let those obstacles in your life get in the way of you and your happiness. Live the way you want to and if you don’t like something , do something about it! You only live once, and you want it to be the best and when you die and look back , do you want to see that you have done nothing? Or that you actually lived your life to the fullest? Many things come in our lives that we don’t want to happen but we have to learn how to not let it bother us but just to overcome it! We see and face so many qualities in our life, sadness, happiness, love-struck , disappointment , and so many more! That’s life! And it’ll throw anything it can at you so watch out! Live your life, like if it was your last day! Do things you never every thought of. Like they say ” every man dies but not every man really lives . “

The logical meaning of “to live” is to be able to breathe, move, and etc. To me there’s way more to it than that. For instance, it means taking chances, making mistakes, and enjoying the moment you are in. There is no other way but to enjoy and make the best out of it. As Damean said “Y.O.LO” You Only LIVE Once, and it’s a true motto of living.

Literal meaning, you meant “literal” not logical. . . I think you, and I and many others prefer to interpret “living” in a more figurative and specifically a very metaphorical the way, as you describe it . . . “taking chances, making mistakes, and enjoying the moment you are in.” Again, great comment, Jamie!!

To live, for me, means that I am doing what I love. I love running, and if I am not running I am not ” living “. Some people can think of living as a thought and not an action, but for me living really is doing what you love. It could be just having fun, hanging with friends, having an education.
and Mr.Moshe’, did you know that everybody is living, but not everybody is living? hehe i’m not sure if you’ll get that

I know that living for me is being completely aware of where I am, what’s goin on, who’e there. It’s being in the moment and experiencing it fully. I guess if I were to take apart what you said, I’d have to express it this way.
As far as the first part of waht you said,”Everybody is living” could mean that everyone with a heartbeat is alive in the literal sense. Hearts beating means organs are being fed, muscles are being empowered, brains are being preapred to percieve perceptions, and people are thinking about things. At the same time, literal living, may mean something totally different to someone whose heart is beating, but whose brain is not functioning normally fo rany number of reasons – a car accident may have caused brain damage, complications at birth could have caused brain damage, drug and alcohol abuse during pregnancy could have caused brain damdage in the newborn. In these cases and others I don’t have enough room to write about could mean that a person is “living” but unable to experience life.
Now, the for second part of what you said, “but not everybody is living” you could be talking about anything at all on earth, and because can not read minds I couldn’t EVER predict what you mean, but here is what I think, imagine, feel . . . Some of us have open eyes, but are not seeing things clearly. Some of us can only see through a cloud, because their perceptions are blocked by their own limitations. Not everybody is living could mean taht they are not living their truth, their destiny. Although their hearts are beating, and their brains are functioning, they aren’t truly living because they are not being true to themselves.
That is my take on “Everybody is living, but not everybody is living.” Does anyone else want to talk about living but not living?
So, David, What does “everybody is living, but not everybody is living”? What does taht mean to you.

So, the second question is basically asking you to think of all the things that make life enjoyable: listening to music, spending time with family, watching teh cat leap into the air to catch a bird that is flying just a bit too low (yes, I saw this and it was cool). freedom to choose your own life, sitting back with a good (no scratch that) a great book. Look I feel that life is too short to waste it on good books – only great ones please. What makes the quality of yor life great?

To live is to try to enjoy every moment in life and to face every challenge life throws at you. To me, making the best of every moment of our precious life is to live. We may have really bad days but we can get through it. Mistakes, success, happiness, sadness and much more all contribute to the quality of our lives. Through life we face a lot of pain and sadness that makes us strong, success and happiness that lifts us up, and mistakes that teaches us great lessons. We may be confused at points in our lives but getting through that confusion is part of living. Some people commit suicide because this pain, sadness and confusion can be overwhelming but these things make the quality of our lives even better because we become stronger. At the end of our lives it doesn’t matter how many years we lived, but how much of life was in it. How much of those great challenges we faced and those amazing moments where words couldn’t explain how happy we were. So none of us should ever sit here not happy about our lives, but we should go out their and make the best of what we have with us.The people that matter the most to us could be gone by tomorrow and we could regret the things we didn’t say or didn’t do, or we they could be gone and we could have no regrets because we made the best of every moment with them. This is my definition of living.

Some people think of living physically wise, such as breathing or your heart beating; others think of it as mentally/emotionally, like having fun or being in love. To me my idea of living is more along the lines of mentally. Everyone breathes, everyone’s hearts beat; there’s nothing special or creative about that. When you do something that gets you excited, makes you laugh, or just plain makes you happy- then you are living. There are many things that contribute to the quality of our lives. Such as: occupations, friends, family, education, emotions, technology, religion, exercise, etc. There is such a variety of contributors because different things make different people feel like they are living. For me, every moment of laugher, adrenaline, or just a quick smile is how I live. It’s all about what’s in the heart, mind, and soul. Are you “living” the way you want to?

Personally, I believe to live is to experience life to the fullest. Have amazing friends, have a really good education, be surrounded by people you love while having fun. Education and good intentions are some of the most important things to contribute to our lives. When I say good intentions, I mean you that you should be nice, smart, friendly, or anything that good people enjoy being around. That is what I believe living is, to have fun and be around good people while actually doing good things.

To live means to breath in what comes to you and concur or master the things that come your way. The thing about people nowadays [is that they] dont know how to respect life and live to the fullest. Uhm, I really dont know how to respond to that second question so…. You really just have to know how to live life the way you want it and not how somebody else wants you to live it. Peace.

J-Dog, I proofed your comment. I will need you to proof your own work before you submit it from now on, or I will not be able to approve it. I can tell your comment comes from the heart. Can you explain what you mean by “concur” the things that come your way. According to Dictionary.com, concur means “to accord in opinion; agree.” So I’m a little confused there.
To Mr. Thomas and the peole who agree with him, you still have the chance to do things you might not have gotten a chance to do, your age doesn’t matter, as longs if your alive you have that oppertunity in life.

Nicely put.
I always like to give credit where credit is due. Micaela said, “You have to go through the rain, to get to the rainbow.” Grea t post Jenna!!!

To live isn’t an important thing because to the universe we are nothing much than trash that we don’t live and appreciate for we simply just waste time. So we have to live our life’s to the fullest because we never know when we are going to die we don’t know which that what time what year it just happens no matter what.
Check your work for run-on sentences . . . pracice is available on my website and on the web at the following google result list. Do the practice, and either remail me your results, or print it and bring it in. I like what you had to say. Keep it up Bryan.
Wow, everyone sort of said everything. But, I think to live is to make every moment count, every memory special, and every opportunity worth it.
The other is as thought everything is a miracle.”
to me living is really having a life and doing things in your life that makes you who you are. living also means taking responsibility for your actions because in life you will eventually go through problems that you can overcome if your willing to. and i also think that enjoying life is very important because it can have a big impact on you. so If you dont do nothing in your life your basically ruining your life because you wont get to enjoy, learn or experience new things in life.
Proof read your comments for capitalization, please. Please do it.
I like what Mr. Thomas posted because it is inspiring and it reminds me to keep on going in the right direction and to cherish the moments that I can live in to be a part of . Mr. Thomas, Mr. Moshe, Mrs. Palade, Mrs. Bollinger, Mr. Sanders, Mrs. Reese, and Coach Keelan all inspire me for different reasons and all of you have taught me to learn and grow and be more than I ever could of been. We learn from our mistakes and we take advantage of our opportunities and knowledge to strive and become more.

Those links are to the song Nothing Else Matters by Metallica and the lyrics. Just the title makes me think what living is. Nothing else matters and you just live the way you want to no matter how everyone else tells you how you should live. I also agree with Dessie because what I said is along the same lines of what she said.
#yolo
“living” hmmmmm the word living means to me is to explore every thing the world has to offer and not being wrapped up in one thing to do everything you can before your run on earth is over all of us are only here for a certain amount of time that’s why “living” is sooooo important because you only get one chance to live when your older and you look back on your life you will say wow i really wish i would have done some of thees things and that’s why i personly live life to the fullest because GOD doesn’t have to give you another day its a gift to be here and thats what the word “living” means to MEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
proof read your comments. Capitalization and punctuation on this one.
I think Living is whatever you love doing. If thats sports, academics, whatever. If your living life based on the past or waiting for the future you will not be living your life at the fullest.

“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough”
Great Job with this one, Jenna!!!
To live means to live life. Living life is about having fun. Listen to Drake – Successful. Everyone wants to be successful in life. I want to be successful, AT HAVING FUN!!!!
To me liveng is doing whatever it is you do and enjoying it. It’s about having fun no matter where you are.
(Oh, I am just kidding). Keep up with the great posts guys!
OK, it would have been more appropriate for you to cite the source. I had to go find it. It took me 3 seconds…Here, check it . .
To live I think it means to just be all you can be and do everything that you can in your short time on earth. Y.O.L.O: YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE
proofed by Mr. Moshe
I can see it now. . . . Everyone needs to start adding YOLO to the end of every text message. NICE ONE Damean!! I love it.
Let me tell you, I’m ROTFLMBO. I can not say the three letter version, so I had to use a “B” for butt.
