Here is Discussion Question 10 – War in your life
- How has WAR affected you or someone you know?
My step-grandfather died about 5-6 years ago. Obviously this wasnt during WWII, he died in his sleep of a heart attack. I never really got to actually know know him and I’ve only seen him once or twice, but the memories i have of him are good ones. After the war my step-mother said that he was a changed man. “He saw the world more clearly” she said. “It was as if he saw all that was wrong in the world and felt it was his duty to change it, but never got the chance.” Alan was avery optimistic man and I hope, wherever he is, he is happy.
I haven’t had any body to my knowledge in my family who has died in a war, but there was this friend I had whos brother was almost about to come home when the army truck he was in went through a mine field his body was badly blown up. He’s dead now, and i forget her saying that she’ll always hate the the people who plantedt the mines. she later came to er senses and realized that hating want make her feel any better.
It didnt affected me but now I know more about what happened in the past and what had happened between the Nazis and Jewish. And its important and stuff because i know in how some people had suffered in the Holacaust. Which the Nazis werent fair to the Jewish.
War is one of the most violent acts in the world. War is always affecting somone somewhere, and it can never be stopped. There can pnly be short times of peace and prosperity. Many people die everyday due to war, and wont stop until it is over. but war is not the only thing affecting us today, there are genocides like the Holocaust happening in Africa currently. We need to be more aware of what we do and what we say, or it can get us all killed.
World war two affected the the jewish man Irving Beinstock he was a kid at the time the war was going on. He was with his family trying to escape germany and get out of Hitler’s rule. He was caught seperated from his family and put into somthing called a kinder transport. He Had found an escape by going to get on a train but was later kicked off because of not having a passport. he then found Hope while struggling to survive the thing that really bugs me is that if there was no war then this wouldent have happened at all.
At first I thought war just a game and it’s just a big deal. But then I got a book from the libary about the Vietnam War. And i was effected from the book. I read how a guy met many friends during the war and they died right in front of in and it was quite emotional in some parts of the book. And after seeing the book no I think that war changes peoples life and it haunts them forever, it’s like a curse that they have to live forever with. lets say for example your friend died in the war and he playes the trumpet and you see a person playing the trumpet, you’ll get memories of what happened that day when your friend died.
i think that the war has affected us in a good way becuse now more poeple are being more kind to others and looking out for one and a nother and they dont really care what religon the are so i think that that has help us to communicat even better with one to a nother and for so of the poeple that hent though this disater i would think that they would still have some anger in them becuse the can still see and some thime piture it and realis what the went trough and never want to live it agian
War has effected me and people I know by changing our lifestyles and the way we live because on airports and other building they use metal detectors and checkups to make sure your not trying to harm people or a terrorist spying on the US. Also it changes the way people live because some video game companies base their game on the war and ignorant people who play the game try to be like that and kill people like what happened in Washington a few years back when a son and his dad went on top of building killing people.
My dad was in war. He went in Iraq and Afganistan and he was a Staff Sargent and he had a group of souldiers that he had to take with him. He doesnt like to talk about it so i dont ask much about it, but he did say that it had changed his life. He didnt say much on how it changed him but i could see in his eyes that he had a memory comming to him.
My uncle is currently in the army and it has been hard on our family because we know that anything could happen, and that he is not safe but he is doing it all for our country. It is very hard on my aunt because she has to make decisions very often that greatly impact her life, since she has to worry about taking care of her kids on her own while he is gone. We go down to visit her very often because we try to make her feel better and as comfortable as we can. We give her advice on how to handle certain situations, and help her out alot. I can just imagine how hard it must have been for all the families that lost their dads, or granpararents during the Holocaust. Though we know that it is all for a good cause.
WW2 has effected me in many diffrent ways for starter it has taught me that I shoud’nt take things for granted because the jews had very little and were happy by just staying alive for as long as they could. It has also showed me that I need to cherish the things that I own and take care of them.
I think in all occasions of war something terrible has happend. WWII is one of many examples of war. It has to do with Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust. Afolf Hitler was a dictator for Germany from 1933-1945 who mainly foucsed on terminating the jews from the world. He thought the jews and their believes were wrong. Since he thought that he decide to kill them all. so the whole world came together to fight a war, and the it all started because of Hitler!
the way war has effected me is having me think you have to be prepared for anything no matter what because you could be outside one day and it be peaceful and the next day be in chaos and well anything i see in video games and or movies could happen directors are just feeding the idea into their viewers. Also our enimies are getting stronger in ways we don’t know and so that is why i think we need to be ready for anything.
War has affected my life to a point where you cant go to the airport without going through tons of securiy. War has affected people that i know to the point where they can no longer go outside walk the streets or see another day because guns are now made and people are allowed to carry them because a piece of paper said so.
My Great-Grandfather actually was in WWII and lived to tell my Grandpa about stories about the war and what he did. So everytime I go out to Oklahoma to visit him, he tells me about these stories. Some of these stories are very interesting! I think it is amazing to be a desendant of one of the men who helped put hitler to his final resting point! No I’m sure that others are to. But I dont think they understand how amazing that is!
I think it’s very depressing the way the nazi’s made the jews go through this such depressing time. In my opinion i feel like they shouldn’t have even thought about giving adolf hitler power. It was probbably one of the biggest mistakes this world has ever made. I have no idea how i would react to this kind of event, i most likley have killed myself because i couldn’t comprehend what’s happening and i would have a breakdown.
i dont reall kno hou da war effected me or anyone else because i didnt really pay attention to it or know anyone that was in the war.but it sounds hurtful though
They say war is horrible and that it breaks apart families, but they contiue provoke it. To do the thing that you know is wrong is ignorance on the governments behalf, and the people who support it. The worst part is the effects it has on those who joing it such as the soilder. They have to witness thier friends dying around them and it destroyes thier minds to our “normal” civilian world. The veterens from the Korean war are perfect examples they can’t distinguish an enemy from a friend and they can’t trust anyone, the worst part is they can hardly show thier love twards others, they become destant from our world. War is a horrible action that can result in loosing lovedones
I am living in a world full of war right now. We all are. There is war going on all around us. I don’t have any family members or friends in active duty military, but every day I see the people who are.
So, the question remains, Patrick . . . How has war affected you or someone you know?
My grandfather fought in the Vietnam war and earned some medals. He wasn’t scared physically, but maybe alittle mentally.I met another guy who was in the same war, but he wasnt so lucky. Both of his arms and legs were blown off. His mental state after the war was really scared for life, almost to the piont of no return. He went back to save a couple of fallen soldiers who tripped in traps set by the enemies. He freed all, but set a bomb off and by grace he even survived.
War affects all of our lives whether we realize it or not. There are many people who are still serving our country at this time and are fighting for our freedom. War is something that has affected my family a lot on my dad’s side. My Grandfather and his brother both fought in the Marines. Sadly my Grandfather’s brother lost his life fighting for our country. War is something that has taken many lives and caused pain throughout the world. I’m proud to know that some of my family went to defend our country. War has also emotionally affected me as well. It has helped me look at arguments in a different way because the little things people argue about aren’t anything compared to what our country’s soldiers are facing.
War has effected me because my uncle used to be in the war, and saw 4 of his friends die right in front of him and was almost killed
How has this effected you?
War has effected everyone in one way or another. War can effect diffrent people in many diffrent ways, somtimes when soliders come back from war they are paranoid and feel like there alone. my grandfather retired from service and it messed up both of hes knees and he got sugery on both of them and can barely walk anymore. But on the good side they give him lots of money every month 😀
War has affected my family a great deal. One of the most brave men I know served in the Vietnam War, my grandpa. He was in the Air Force and today he still remembers some of the horrors of war. Although there is a lot that is bad about war, there is also some good as in the stories that my grandpa can tell me about when he was in the service, and the things he saw and can tell me are very fun to listen to.
I know alot of people who have gone to the military. I often think about War and what the world would be like if no one hated anyone, but then what kind of world would that be? Everything has flaws and I think one of the worlds flaws is how the people in it can’t get along because of jealousy. If the world didn’t have War in it, it wouldn’t be a world, it would be heaven or imagined. People get in fights all the time, wheather its with a friend or family, there is always some kind of war going on somewhere in the world. Its just really on how you take it, and how you respond it, you can make things worse, or you can make things not so bad.
The war has effected me in a emotional way more than personal. The way Hitler treats people makes me mad and i makes me think about things like bullying. Basicly Hitler was a bully. He bullied many many people. When i watched videos about him and see the people who are hurt i think about bullys. How laughing at somethings that you think is funny can make someone else hurt or sad. Maybe if we all stoped and think before we talk the world would be much better. It also made me think about the little thing we all take forgranted in life.
The Jews were treated poorly and were treated like a nobody. The destruction through the war and the Jew killing were off the charts. This was a very bad war to me, because innocent jews were killed for no reason. They were killed just because Hitler’s perfect world didn’t involve them in it.
My grandpa used to be in the military. He actually fought in WWII, and successfully emerged from it with slight war-scars. He feels as if his being in the military has increased both his physical and his emotional strengths, which I can agree with. He’s a very courageous and brave man, who, at times, can be a bit stubborn. But otherwise, he’s my grandpa, and he’s a brave person who fought for our nation.
War has affected everyone in some type of way, its how the world resolves its problems, with guns and violence. War destroys families by how their loved ones are killed in the line of duty, risking their lives for the better good. Now when I was in Holocaust museum in Washington D.C. I saw first hand how war can affect families and friends. There was this one picture I remember seeing that showed a Nazi solider beating a Jewish father and taking him away to a concentration camp while his family watched in terror. I was thinking to myself why would someone do such a thing just because of their religion. Its sad to see how jews where treated by the Nazis over 60 years ago
War is always going on. War is not necessarily blood and shooting, but maybe conflict between several things. I find the economic levels to be a war. Not enough money for everybody. For example in other countries children are starving, have no education, and maybe even no place clean to sleep and eat. Some other countries are wealthy and sometimes take everything for granite. This effects me because i feel there is something we could do as a country to help others. My voice is just a small voice, and i really have no say in the law making and changes. This, to me, is a continuous war.
Like everyone said was is just in some peoples blood my granpa Fought in world war II he was on one of the aircraft carriers and my Grandmas brother My uncle Kevin fought in the Veitnam war he was in a helocopter and it was shot down but he servived and
I feel sad that war has wrecked so many people at such a young age. Look at the war we just finished the Afghanistan war and look how that started 911 we all were around for that and we all remember that day but i have a connection to that day my step-dad Andrew who has always been like a father to me was in the World Trade Center on that very day and even when the plane hit the tower he was on the north one the plane itself was like 7 floors above him so he had to run down the stairs and happily to our family he was on of the many surivers and i didn’t know it than but I’m happy in what my family has been through and we hold together. I often think why can’t we all just stop all the fighting why can’t we all just get along for once? Why is that so much to ask for this country and all other countries that we can all just get along on this world we call Earth?
The Holocaust affected me personally because of the damage people will do to you just because of your religion. And that it might happen again Terrifies me! It’s absolutely horrible to treat someone like that because of something so simple-what they believe in! It’s something deeply spiritual, and personal, and to be persecuted for it is one of the worst things I can imagine. It affects me because looking at the hate on the Nazi’s faces and how they gladly hurt others in cruel ways And for a whole country to feel that way can destroy a person. It hurts to think about what they did even 70 years later.
My dad is currently in the military. He has been in the Marine Corps. and now, he is in the Air force. Almost every year he goes away for a few weeks of even months. Right now, he is somewhere in the middle-eastern countries (near Iraq and Iran) for nine months. It’s hard on my family, knowing that that is a war zone but its comforting when he calls us or skypes us.
War will always be a part of our society’s way to solve problems, and it doesn’t only effect the soldiers it effects us as well. My grandfather was a marine in the Vietnam War, and his brother was a pilot. My cousin is still to this day a soldier in the Army. I guess you could say war is in our blood. During the Vietnam war my great uncle -Mickey- passed away when a helicopter he was flying crashed. My dad’s brother (my uncle) is named after him. Mickey’s death was very hard to deal with, and despite that i wasn’t born then, it makes my heart ache that he had to die like that. Of course I’m proud of every member for fighting for our country, but it’s still scary to know my cousin could be in Afghanistan or Iraq or anywhere and he may never return home. My cousin has seen a lot of scary things in his lifetime, and he has been personally effected by that. He doesn’t act the same, he can never unsee the horrible events that have taken place in front of his own eyes. I want to help him, but there’s nothing any of us can do to really help. I love every member of my family and every member yet to come who will risk their life to protect mine. I will always be effected by war and its ugly outcome.
I wasn’t actually in WWII but I have seen the damage and how the Jews were persecuted. It affected me by the way I think about the Holocaust because I actually saw how the Nazis treated them. Harry S. Truman sent in people to take pictures and videos of it happening because he KNEW that one day, people would say that the Holocaust never happened. People do say that today but we have proof. They took pictures of the starved people and the Nazis taking blindfolded Jews to their death. It affected me personally when I saw those images.
At the Holocaust Memorial Museum, I saw the way that the Jews lived in the concentration camps and even outside the camps. I heard a story about a little boy named Daniel. His mother and sister were murdered in a concentration camp. It upsets me about how Hitler and the Nazis treated the Jews. They’re people too. I don’t know why the Nazis hated the Jews so much. They stole their stuff away from them when they entered the camps. Some of the only belongings they were allowed to keep were simple things like utensils, glasses cases, glasses, shaving supplies and scissors. I went into one of the rail cars that the Jews travelled in. It stunk and was dark. Nazis also experimented on the Jews like forcing them drink seawater to see if they would survive for instances when a boat is stranded without water. Also, after they gassed the Jews, they would steal their hair, their shoes and all of their belongings. It made me depressed to know that people were treated this way and millions of people died. If you were twelve and under when you arrived at a camp, you immediately were sentenced to death. It’s hard to think that babies and infants were murdered along with their parents.
