The Book Without Words – An Introduction

For this assignment, use the list of characters and the basic vocabulary list for the novel, The Book Without Words by Avi.

Here’s what you have to do. On a sheet of paper . . .

Write a short story to get acquainted with the characters and vocabulary.

Your story need not be a prediction of what you think will happen in the book.

Your story need not be long and drawn out.

Your story need only show me that you have some understanding of the personality traits of the characters and the vocabulary terms.

You should try to use every character name and every vocabulary term.

You must underline the character names and vocabulary terms in your story.

Legend Project – The Final Word

Here’s what you have to do. You may number your entry to show that you have satisfied the requirements:

  1. Your First Name & Period #
  2. Tell us the name of your legend.
  3. Tell us where your legend comes from (region, culture, etc.)
  4. Pick one of the following questions and answer it:
    • How did your legend influence the people of your culture?
    • What did your legend get the people of your culture to do?
    • What function did your legend play for the people of your culture?
    • What purpose did your legend serve for the people of your culture?
    • What lesson did your legend teach the people of your culture?
  5. How can you apply what you’ve learned from your legend and/or legend group to your life?
