I know what its like to be addicted to something, and it is hard to go in life and not be able do what your addicted to. You can have mood swings, get irratable, and even get depressed. I know its a hard thing to overcome, and I know most people dont think they can get over it, but you can. If you put your mind to it, and think of all the other people it has affected besides you, you’ve got your motivation. Especially when you have someone who looks up to you. Once you have overcome your addiction you can share your story, I know you might be ashamed at first, but look at yourself now and how far you have come, and think of all the other people you can help for getting yourslef help. Don’t you want to be proud of yourself?
Alot of people are addicted to Video games because they’re always on it everyday not doing anything esle but playing the video game for hours and hours with frequent breaks for bathroom usage and for food/snacks. It is a problem because people expecially boys (no offense) are on these games for hours throughout the weekday and weekends theyre not doing theyre homework or studying theyre worried about cracking the nex level or what new game comes out.
I agree with Ken because you are wasting time that could have been full of awesome memories, but are on a game you won’t remember in two years, let alone when you regret the times you missed 30 years down the road. And I know a couple people who are truly addicted to video games and they won’t sleep, or eat, or even go to the bathroom until they finish some level or do kill some dinosaur, and it’s horrifying that they spend so much time on a video game.
I think they should motivate themselves to make their lives better. Instead of playing “fantasy football” why not actually go out there and play, and see how good you are without using a computer to help you?
I agree with Alexis because I can’t stand not having my computar or like say my ipod where ever I go. Since we as kids are growing up in the technology century we are mostly addictted to say whatever new game comes out in the market. Because technology has always been our thing. It’s a bad thing don’t get me wrong its a very bad thing to think that most people sit inside almost all of the day to just play a video game that gives your bain nothing but useless information. And just to think that some of the smartest people in the world could be just sitting there and looking at their tv all day when say they could be doing something more usefull with their time. For example people could be searching for new ways to cure cancer or different treatments that can be offered to slow it down if its in a later state. But no these brilliant people are inside all day just letting their brain rot while they look at the tv and move their fngers playing a useless video game.
I meant to say that there are many things that people dont do the old fashoined way anymore. sorry
With the technology advancing, there are many things people do the old fashioned way. Things like getting on the computer when you get home and jumping on a game is okay, but you might want to do your homework first. I know first-hand that gaming can be addictive. When you get into a game for a while( unless you really suck) you get untouchable in the game. This is called game mode. I have an XBOX 360, so I know what I am talking about. With an XBOX, there are many games available to you and you always want to get another game right after you finish the previous one. Gaming can get very addictive. You lose track of time and when you’re playing, you always want to procrastinate. For a real example: I was playing Madden 12 and my mother told me I needed to do my homework. Well, I ended up playing from 6pm to 11pm. THEN I forgot to do my homework and went to bed. I ended up having to do the homework in the class I was supposed to finish it for.
I agree with Jenna, too. You need your vitamin D people! When you don’t go outside, you can’t get the sunlight and the excercise you need. There are so much technology these days; its hard not to get addicted to it. Especially with a lot of pressure from friends and family, it’s nice to lose your mind in a fantasy game or the internet. I myself have gone on the computer for a couple of hours, but I can’t do that every day. When you play these games for hours, you isolate yourself from friends and family. You miss out on social development and you won’t be able to make new friends; you’re mind is on your game! Then the addict could become depressed…
I agree with Destiny H. When you play video games you get to involved in the game and you don’t pay attention to your surroundings. My brother plays video games but he doesn’t play them like crazy. He gets off his butt and really talks to his friends. Playing video games is an addiction i agree with that, but with every addiction comes with a cure to stop. Take breaks and go outside or eat a snack, be active outside not online. I think that most people are addicted to video games rather then any other kind of addiction. “Video Game Addiction No Fun”.
With the advancement of technology, games are becoming increasingly immersing. This causing a break in the real world and what you are doing. A closed door and a powered Xbox, or PS3, or computer can lead to an F in class. Or your parents taking the door off the hinges because you forgot to feed your aardvark and it died. If you get addicted to video games, your life may take a turn for, well not the worst, but it will get downright silly. I mean really, if you had a choice between your friends and “OMG KILLSTREAK KAPLOWIE” and you choose the 2nd one, you should ask your parents to throw your game system at your wall and feed it to your dead aardvark. Social awkwardness is not a good trade off for saving the princess. You don’t catch the dragon, and Snape kills Dumbledore.
Go outside, get some fresh air, call in an expert, get over an addiction, and become a better person. Remember, having no friends has the equivalent life expectancy as smoking. Don’t die young, video games are bad.
“Harumph” See Blazing Saddles with your parents.
I believe that the gaming problems are not as severe as the two very intelligent women are portraying it to be. I believe that most gamers can controll how much gaming they do or why they do it. I don’t think that the psychologists are wrong in some cases. In a few of them I’v noticed that some of them do it to” change the way they feel by taking something outside of themselves,” but that won’t help them feel better. And in other cases they are way off. I believe that most gamers can controll how much gaming they have just as Mr. Howard.
Video gaming and the use of other devices or simple things such as food can become addicting. People who playing video for 3 or more hours everyday can ruin they lives and they may not developed all the way, may not get to enjoy life it’s self with family and friends and plus it’s unhealthy. I agree with the comments and also the article it’s self because I believe that online gamers maybe more popular in the virtual world rather then the real world because of them not having many friends at school or to escape from real life problems (reality). If your on the computer for 3 hours or more try to take a break sit back, watch TV or go and enjoy some sunlight. Live and enjoy life and don’t waste it on video games.
I agree with Alexis. I can’t go a day without getting on the computer.
I agree with Jamie. Video gaming truly is like a drug in the sense that people are addicted and want to do it all the time. Preventing this is one of the easiest and only ways to actually stop addictive behaviors. Video games are fun and are great to be enjoyed once in a while, but there is so much life to experience in the world and so many treasured moments waiting to be lived. Don’t waste it on trying to get the highest kill streak on shooting games, or leveling up your character to the highest level, go out and play with your friends! Go spend time with your family! Don’t regret your decision to play games over doing something productive. Honestly are you going to remember the moment when you played a video game, or the moment when you go win a sports game, or academic competition, or whatever it may be. Don’t get sucked into the world of addictive games, limit your time playing, and live your life to the fullest!
Actually some kids and young adults may not be the coolest kid but their way of “being cool” is by getting the best in a game or getting the highest level. But thats just their way of interacting with people. Honestly I think that’s wrong. I think that they should go outside and use that time they spend playing video games outside. Such as playing basketball or playing football or even just running around with some real friends, not some kids you have no idea who they are. Not only that but when most poeple play “online” they tend to “cuss”. I know I’ve done it. But not only that but when you get addicted to something then that becomes your life, and if your life becomes your television then you can even loose some of your confidence and become “lame” so to speak. But not only that if you sit on the couch and you don’t move around after you eat, all that fat wont get burnt off so you can also become fat. Mystep-brother has done this also. He can sit on the game for hours without blinking or even moving a muscle. The only time he moves is when he gets “killed”. And when i try to get him to come outside and play baketball or football he just says,” hold on a minute”. So every time i try to get him off the game he always says, “hold on a minute” and it gets VERY ANNOYING!!! So now everytime he comes over to my house, i have to hide my game so that he doesn’t play it. Now he doesn’t play it and actually comes outside to play and burns off that fat we eat during lunch and dinner.
I also agree with Jenna, I honestly have been addicted to video games and I know how it feels. I used to play around 8-9 hours on everyday of summer , and definitely did not get any exercise or sleep. And I felt as if all I needed to do was play and play. Now I do alot more exercise and run out alot and don’t feel as drained as before , and it definitely feels great.
I think that video games are addicting because i do play video games on my free time or when ever i want i also think that if you get addicted to video games you become more crazier .. my personal thoughts i also think that to much video games are bad for the kids brains because the little kid will have messed up thoughts not pay attention to people day dream and etc.
I think when people are addicted to video agames, especially when they are our age, it is unfortunate and well.. sad. They escape to the fantsy world where they can be controller of their lives. Everyday i sit down at lunch or stop in the hallway and overhear conversations and all these people are talking about is videogames. More than half of the time it is the “unpopulars”(or somtimes the people that get bullied at home or at school) and everytime i see them that is what i hear: videogames. I have even had friends that became addicted to videogames, facebook or texting which happens alot in our generation. Although i admit to bringing my phone everywhere i socialize and playsports and spend time with my family. I realize that people struggle with their addictions daily, but they shouldn’t isolate themselves, they need to do everything but that.
I think that it was interesting to know that many young people like me are addictive to video games. Like they say in the article it isn’t so bad like drugs or alcohol but the video games can also cause problems. Video game addiction can ruin lives, because many kids spend more time playing than socializing, doing homework, or playing sports. If they don’t keep playing they become irritable and miserable so that’s really bad, if they could control their gaming activity it would be a lot better. Parents also have to be paying attention to their kids and see if they have some of the game addiction signs. Many kids stop doing their hobbies and things that they like to do just to play video games and that’s really bad. That’s what I think about the Mental Health article.
I think video gaming is addicting because I know people my slef that plays plenty of video games every single day. To tell you the truth I play alot of video games too, but I dont play games as much as other people do. When I am doing something else I dont think games i try to stay focused on what I got to do and How I got to do it
The article talks about video games addictions and how bad it
really can be. so they started giving us examples and ideas of how the addiction starts and the best way to stop it. one of the examples they used that made me more interested in the article was when they said a mother had a son who loves baseball and shes starting to think her sons addicted to videogames because his son quit baseball. and also they gave out facts about ways you can tell if your childs addicted to video games. like when you take there videogames away they will start crying and fusssing and getting mad over the game.one of the most important thing i thought the article stated was when it said the key is to show gamers they are powerless over the addiction and then teach them real life excitement. another reason why i thought this article was interesting was because i play video games and i never knew that video games could become a problem and addiction in some peoples lives.
Video gaming has become a giant part of the society of America, nowadays. This is mainly because of the features that video gaming now gives you. I mean, look at the 3D video gaming systems. That is something that no one could have imagined 5 years ago, but now some people’s thoughts have actually become a reality. I mean, I do agree that there is a lot of people addicted to video games, and it would help if they went around and met people rather than sitting down all day playing video games, but video games can be really fun. I play video games to get my mind off of school and actually give me a chance to relax for once. I mean, an 8 hour school day is a bit much, especially when you come home to homework that is due the next day. With that, there’s barely any time that I have to myself. So sometimes, I just get the homework done early so when I get home, I can just sit down and relax whilst playing some major games. I’ve never really seen someone become addicted to video games, but I can picture it happen. I mean, I’m addicted to the Internet… don’t judge me…
I agree with Jenna. Instead of isolating yourself from people your age you should go play with them. Some people I can understand that you would want to be isolated from because they are a bad influence. Those that aren’t you should become friends with them. Sometimes when I have nothing to do I will go play video games. Eventually they get boring so I go find something else to do and if I can’t I go to sleep or try to do something with my friends. My little brother and my cousin LOVE video games. That’s all they do all day, and they barely eat. If they do eat it’s chips and juice. I started calling them game junckies because thats all they do. The only way you can get them away from a video game is if you hide it. Even then they will find some type of video game to play and if they can’t they will ask you non-stop for one. They get up and play thier ds,psp,or ps3.
Video games are fun to play once in a while. But addiction to them is a bad thing. People who play video games all day are ruining their lives. If people do this, they would never see the outside world, they would only see the TV or computer. A lot of bad things can happen if you play video games all day. If you are addicted to video games, you probably don’t go outside to play very much. If you don’t go outside, you don’t burn calories. If you don’t burn calories, you would probably become obese. Being obese is not a good thing.
I play video games once in a while, but I am not addicted to them. I play basketball which is how I don’t become addicted to video games or obese. It is not a good thing to be addicted to video games. So go outside and play a sport instead of sitting on a couch all day.
Technology has had a tremendous impact on our generation. Video games, cell phones, ipads, and etc, can all become addictive. Personally I’m not a video game person. i spend most of my spare time doing active activites. This would include going for walks or even just reading a book. Staying hooked and in front of a video game or any electronic can harm your brain. This can take away some important things you need during school or job. Also it can take you away from the real world. in a video game your in a vitural world leading you away from reality. My true point is limit the time you spend on electronics and go outside, or do something that is active. Live and enjoy life and don’t waste it on video games.
Video games seem to be a growing problem and I understand why. I wouldn’t say I’m addicted to gaming, but I spend hours on the computer doing whatever I want each day. After being under all the pressure from everything going on around us, we automatically look for a way to escape. This results in many people turning to gaming or the internet. The sad fact is that many people addicted to gaming don’t realize it because they consider it just a normal thing to do. Gaming can also cause problems in social development and can cause grades to drop. It’s hard to break this addiction, I would know since I’ve tried to keep myself from spending too long on the computer. Technology has caused many addictions, but we just have to learn to deal with them. The internet is one of my biggest addictions since I can’t even imagine not spending at least an hour a day on it. I’ve learned how to stop and not go overboard when dealing with this though. Addictions like these are hard to face. During this age with all the technology that has come out we have to learn to limit ourselves and make sure that we realize that there’s more to life than just gaming or going on the internet.
As generations continue, and technology advances like it has; addiction seems to grow. Especially video game addiction! I have friends who play for hours and hours, and I know it’s not at all good for them. Whatever happened to playing outside? If all you do is isolate yourself, you are losing very important life values. Are the only memories of your childhood you want to have is of yourself gaming for hours on hours?! Yes it’s true everyone gets caught up every now and then, including myself but it’s not like it’s what I do every single day. I really hope this articlel has gotten to the real game addicts, I want them to get as much help as they possibly can. I would hate to see them throw away their life, just for the “Thrill” of a new highscore.
All I hav eto say is, RIGHT ON!!!!!!! You rock, Jenna! Play outsdie. Tag, you’re it!
I think games can be addicting. I love playing games myself. I wouldn’t say that I’m addicted but I have my moments. I spend at most a hour playing games. Kids my age are addicted to games too. I think games can do harm to you physically and emotionally. I love playing Tetris Battle. For example, I wouldn’t talk to anybody when I’m into a really good game so I don’t eat or sleep and I would feel like I don’t have anyone to talk to so I go back and play my games.
Games aren’t the only things are addicting. Facebook and music can be addicting too. I am on Facebook for 2 hours on the weekends. I know that most of my classmates and teachers have a Facebook account too because I have them as my friends. I listen to music while doing my homework. It keeps me focused and makes homework fun, in a way. There are many more things that are addicting but these are my major addictions.
