Week Three – Discussion Question #6
My friends and I have a saying, Stand for something, or you’ll fall for anything.
Creighton learns about many virtues some of which are honor, loyalty, honesty, humility. This thread deals with honor and loyalty. In chapter 16, the narrator tells us:
“But now Creighton understood for the first time the truth of the matter: If loyalty really was the most worthy of virtues, then loyalty that was misplaced or misguided must be the most worthless.”
Ask yourself:
- What did Creighton’s father stand for? How can you take the lesson of what Creighton’s father died for and use it to grow?
- What is meant by Creighton’s realization about loyalty? How can you personally use the knowledge Creighton has gained?
- Do you stand for something that you (probalby) shouldn’t? Do you stand for anything? How do poeple see what you stand for in your actions?
There are a lot of questions in this thread. Pick one to answer. No matter which one you pick, try to talk about yourself as much as possible.
Marcus,
Your comment seems off here, uh, illogical, not based on the text…at least not the text I read.
You will have to explain yourself if you would like credit for participating in this discussion. And when I say explain I mean it better make sense. Or retract your comment, and seek participation elsewhere.
He stood up for the army.
I think Harry Brown did the right thing in helping the Native Americans (even if it meant commiting treason against his country, the English.) What the British were doing was immoral. The British should have searched for more land, not take over the Native Americans.
Creighton’s father( Harry Brown) was convicted of helping the Indians in the war,and betraying his country. I think what Brown did was right, reson being because he has a soft heart and he knew what the English were doing was not right. The British weren’t fighting for the right reasons, all they were doing were being big bullies! I think if I were Harry I would of done the same thing to beause I can’t stand to see people be hurt for no reason. If everyone would make the respectable and honorable choice no one would feel grief or pain. The world would be so much more peaceful and more safe.there would be no wars or problems. I think that knowing that there is always a right decision will make me grow because it will make me think smarter. That is how it will make me grow.
Thank you for sharing your very human response to this question. I will be leaving this discussion open for another week.
Creighton’s dad stood for the right of inocent people. So he could not let them attack the indians because they were inocent. So he had to be hung for not standing for his country to me its as if he was killed for knowing right from wrong. If every one would act as creighton’s father did i think they would grow as better people.
