Bloody Sunday – Don’t forget
A political entity of Northern Ireland was created by the 1920 Government of Ireland Act, which granted home rule but left six counties in the north as a part of the UK. The mainly-unionist population there had opposed being included in a home rule settlement.
A unionist-dominated Northern Ireland parliament opened in Belfast in 1921, and the ensuing decades saw systematic social discrimination against the Catholic and nationalist minorities.
The crisis in Northern Ireland escalated in 1969 when British troops were sent to the [6 counties in the north of] British possession to suppress nationalist activity by the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and to quell religious violence between Protestants and Catholics.

Sunday Bloody Sunday by U2
I can’t believe the news today
Oh, I can’t close my eyes
And make it go away
How long…
How long must we sing this song
How long, how long…
’cause tonight…we can be as one
Tonight…
Broken bottles under children’s feet
Bodies strewn across the dead end street
But I won’t heed the battle call
It puts my back up
Puts my back up against the wall
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
And the battle’s just begun
There’s many lost, but tell me who has won
The trench is dug within our hearts
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters
Torn apart
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
How long…
How long must we sing this song
How long, how long…
’cause tonight…we can be as one
Tonight…tonight…
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Wipe the tears from your eyes
Wipe your tears away
Oh, wipe your tears away
Oh, wipe your tears away
(Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
Oh, wipe your blood shot eyes
(Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
Sunday, Bloody Sunday (Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
Sunday, Bloody Sunday (Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
And it’s true we are immune
When fact is fiction and TV reality
And today the millions cry
We eat and drink while tomorrow they die
(Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
The real battle just begun
To claim the victory Jesus won
On…
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Sunday Bloody Sunday…
This event in history showed that some people in this world are truly willing to fight for what they believe. Nowadays people say how they would do this and that for what they believe and what they love, then when the situation presents itself these same people disappear. Those people were out in the streets, being seen, and were doing what they said they would. For some people it meant loosing their lives, which they knew it could come to. Still they were okay with this because they figured if they did this then the people left behind would be able to have what they wanted. Proving that these people were “down for the cause” and that they would not “take this lying down”.
