The Year of the Hangman Final Assignment
How did it end?
I know that is what a lot of you are wondering. Here’s your chance to offer your own answer.
This week your comment needs to be an alternate ending to The Year of the Hangman.
- Tell us how you would change the ending.
- Tell us what happens to the various characters.
- What happens to George Washington?
- What happens to Creighton, Uncle Hugh, Sophie, Old Ben?
- Your ending, your way.
- ONE RULE, your ending must logically follow the train of thought and plot that led up to it. You can not write something that does not seem plausible based on what happened. It has to make sense and fit into the story.
- Have fun with this. You earned it.
This is your chance to write an alternate ending, be creative and good luck.
Maybe the author will make a comment or two about your alternate endings. You should like to proof it thoroughly before posting it. Have a friend or family member read it for errors prior to typing it into a comment.

Alternate Ending Final Chapter 24
While Creighton was packing up his cards, something terrible was being plotted against them overseas. King Richard was furious over the fact that some prisoners had escaped from his heavily guarded prison and to top all of that a rumored to be dead president George Washington had escaped from the prison where he was being held along with the help of his good friend Benjamin Franklin. So the king sent all of his imperial guards to the British docks to stock up on supplies to capture the vigilantes and the accessories to the escape. The king had also made Creighton’s uncle head of the guards to capture them. Eight hours later, near the British docks a sign of hope that could help Creighton and his friends from being attacked. It was George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. Ben and George over heard British troops on the docks talk about a secret surprise attack on the colonies to capture the escaped prisoners. Benjamin Franklin had not really died in that fire but it was someone who had resembled him. Ben hired a double so he could go on a secret mission to save his dear friend George Washington from being executed.
Now Benjamin and George set sail towards north America to warn their people of what dangers lies ahead of them and to prepare for battle.
Five months later, Benjamin and George arrive on North American soil and have told everyone about what was coming to their docks. So George had a plan to destroy the British fleets from entering their harbor. Harry Brown had healed by this time so, George Washington thought it would be a great idea to put back Harry back in uniform and for him to help out his country. A month later after the British finished rounding up supplies for the attack on the colonies The Colonies were already prepared for the upcoming battle
January 3,1777 the day of the battle.
Ships could be seen falling into the depths of the oceans. Bodies littered the shores. Harry and his brother had a little score to settle so they went into hand-to-hand combat. Harry knocked his brother to the ground…a few seconds later Harry’s brother and his men were surrounded by angry patriots pointing muskets at them. All was back to normal in the colonies, George Washington went back to being leader, and Benjamin Franklin began rebuilding his shop. Harry and Creighton made a father and son shop together. One hundred thousand miles away a king was being hanged for treason against his people. A few nights later Harry’s brother escaped prison and swore he would get revenge.
As Creighton walked through the doors of the new printing office, he looked about, all of the memories flooded back to him. He thought of the first time he walked in there after Franklin won his labor in a card game. He thought “I am just here until I get my uncle out of jail, then I’m home free, although I am not looking forward to seeing mom.” Now he wouldn’t go back for anything. You could offer him the world and he would deny it only for the past six months. He loved New Orleans, and as he looked about he realized that he was the manage of the establishment. The paper business was booming. They were making heaps of money but that did not change them. The reason for such a flood of money was there was a lot of news, as the Americans were beating the British.
Creighton’s father wanted to be a bartender so he is working at the local tavern. Creighton has stopped all the gaming and his life was all straightened out. He also planned on asking Sophie to marry him in the near future. As for Peter, he was his same big self, just working at the printing shop. All of their lives were great, Creighton thought, as he opened up the shop. And for once he thought, “this is like the end of a book, a happy ending”, and he was right.

Year of the hangman final chapter
As Creighton examined the cards he started considering what the new America would be like under British power. He could see the British flag in almost every street corners. He stopped, he couldn’t do it, two months ago he wouldn’t care but now there’s no way of seeing the Americans giving up. He had a new view of them; he now felt they resembled him. The Americans hated the new rules so they did something about it. Kind of reminded him of a time when he was about ten years of age. Although what he was defending wasn’t so righteous. The town passed a rule that anything sport’s teams now have to include at least three girls. Creighton wasn’t too happy about that, something to do with girls having to learn their place. So he started gathering gangs, and told them how much they would suffer, he got them pretty aggregated , they signed a petition , like the Americans they thought they would actually win. It was very promising at first, and then all the girls started to not show at the games, the mothers stopped baking for them, they lost a lot of team spirit, and most of the girls were ignoring anyone on the team. The guys didn’t want girls on the team but what they had to endure was too much, so they gave in, now every team has girls in them.
“Creighton, it’s okay it wasn’t your fault” said Sophie, disturbing his flash back. I didn’t think it was my fault, what should I think that, you think it my have been my fault? Replied Creighton. No, it’s not like that, you’re beating yourself up, I just can’t stand seeing you like this”. Without a reply Creighton stormed out the room, and slammed the door. While Creighton is mixed up about his feelings, the changes in America were already happening. The schools, the stores the libraries and any public places had to show their fake appreciation for the British government. In the front of every newspaper was a warning. It wrote “living rebels, British have won the war, accepted it, love it because you’ll have to live with it, fighting is futile and fatal so give up that dream of America, it won’t exist. This small note was getting to people little by little; soon four out of five of the Americans accepted it. To some people that note was frightening and discouraging but to other (the rebels) it was insulting and some what daring.
Those people formed an underground gang to see if there’s anyway to give the people their spirit again, and form a new fighting group. The leader of that group surprisingly as it might sound is a girl; her name is Alex. All she wanted to see was some confidence and to make sure that every one doesn’t forget about what they once fought for, every day they used to picture a new country based on their own rules and liking, she wants to revive that vision. She did a little digging up soon her crew was growing every day. She’s soon found out about Dr. Franklin, the shop which led her to found out about Creighton, through some people. Alex admired Creighton’s way of thinking and courage; to be able to face people he use to know in such way is very remarkable to her so she decided that she wanted Creighton to be in the crew. She sent one of her guys, Nathan, to get Creighton.
“Creighton, someone’s here for you” acknowledge Sophie. Creighton rushed there kind of confused, “who are you?” demanded Creighton. “I’m here to give you an offer, have heard a lot about you, and my leader wants you to join our crew. “Crew? I don’t quite understand” replied Creighton. “A crew to run down the British government” responded Nathan. “no way” said Creighton you are just wasting your time, the Brits have more power, we lost all of our good fighters, we have strategies, and how are we going to attack? … Yeah that’s what I thought; tell your leader he’s wasting his time. “She” Nathan interrupted. Whatever, she’ crazy, she has a death wish, tell her if she has some got some senses to give up now” said Creighton.
That’s the last time they ever spoke. Alex ignored Creighton’s warning, her team attacked the nearest British office, she lost ¾ of her men, her spirit broke and she never fought or gives a speech ever again. Creighton moved to France with Sophie where they got Married, they now have two kids. Peter and the other guys stayed in America or New Britain, where they have a pretty decent life.

“Brown. Harry Brown.”
said the man lying in the cell. Creighton’s legs went limp.
“Father?” Creighton asked carefully.
“Who?” said the prisoner.
“Creighton, it’s me your son Creighton!”
“Oh. Yes. Creighton my son, my dear, dear son!”
“I thought you died father?”
“No, no they just took me in as a prisoner,” said Harry. Creighton was filled with emotions and confusion because he still felt his father was a traitor and that theres something different about him.
Arnold explained to the guards that they found the prisoner they were looking for and need to take him. They leave with Harry immediately incase the guards ask questions. As they were leaving Creighton had a million questions to ask his father. However, every time Creighton asked a question, Harry gave vague answers. Arnold decided to lead the group to town, where his home was. When they arrived Arnold said
“Anyone want tea?” both Creighton and Harry nodded.
Everyone sat down and had a cup of tea.
“I need to get something, excuse me,” Arnold said as he left the room and went upstairs.
“How long have you been there?” Creighton asked his dad curiously.
“Uhh….hmmm… a few months,” Harry said. Arnold crepted into the room quietly. Harry hadn’t noticed because his his back was to the doorway.Arnold grabbed the tea pot and knocked Harry unconscience.
“Why’d you do that!?” Creighton yelled.
“That’s not him,” Arnold said casually.
“Of course it’s him!”
“Iv’e noticed his strange behavior, like his vague answers, his unfamiliarity towards you, plus he doesn’t look like him. When the man wakes up, he realizes he’s been tied up.
“Who are you?” Arnold asks.
“Bill Smith.”
“Of course, you where in the same unit as Harry and look nearly identical.”
“Where’s my father” Creighton asks
“Canada” Bill says
“What!?” Arnold and Creighton say simultaneously.
Which starts their wild goose chase to find Harry Brown.
I didn’t know we had to get it approved. Since it is due today I posted it. I wrote it and had Jennifer and Dominique proof read it. I worked really hard on it, and I’m completely satsified with my work.
10 months later….
“Creighton?” “Yes father?” “Have you wrote your mother about our return ?” asked Harry Brown. “Yes I sent her an enormous letter about two months back. She was astonished, and couldn’t believe it. Asking all this ridiculous questions. My hand still hurts from writing her back.” Don’t whine” “I’m not,” huffed Creighton. Harry Brown’s health returned six months after we escaped from that awful jail. He still has dizzy spells sometime or another. “Back to England, fantastic…” muttered an ill Creighton.
“Why must this wretched ship be so wobbly?” “It’s not entirely, you’re just sea sick. Think about something pleasent and the your ailment will subside.” “Oh right then, I wish I could go back to the moment in New Orleans.” When I had to say goodbye to Sophie it was rather akward. “Well au revoir miseur Creighton. I actually might miss you.” “Farewell Sophie” She hugged me, and then there was fiery red passion in her eyes.
The moment was there and we kissed briefly. She was blushing as was I. “Ugh,” stated Creighton. The ship lurched forward violently. “I don’t feel very well” Creighton’s face turned a deep shade of green.” I gotta, I gotta” He upchucked over the rail. “There goes breakfast,” said Harry Brown chuckling. ” We’re here, England!” declared a sailor manning the bow. “Let’s go Creighton. You can rest in the carriage.” Harry Brown sniffed a perculiar scent. “For God’s sake man wash your mouth out with ale. It smells worse than your Uncle Gower’s feet after a duel.
As they arrived at the house, Mrs. Brown came rushing to the carriage hysterical and flushed. “It’s seems so long ago that you were here. After Creighton sent me those letters I didn’t know what to think. I thought you were….” said Mrs. Brown. “I know, I know, it’s quite alright now I’m home,” My father comforted my mother, and she finally stopped all her blubbering. ” Creighton I’m ecstatic you’re home dear” “Yeah, after you shipped me off in the night to some uncle I never met” “I only did it to straighten you out. You were out of hand. Let’s put it all behind us I’ve prepared tea and sweet busicuts”
After some light conversation, mother said “You’re excused Creighton” “But I’m not…” “I said you’re a excused,” mother replied sternly. I left without a word. Where does she get of telling me what to do. “I’ll show her,” I whispered. I slipped into my “room” as swiftly as a fox. Everything was still as I left it. Nothing has changed here, nothing. That’s the horrible part. There were newspaper clipping of father in the old days. If only… Knock Knock. Someone is at the door.
Creighton open up it’s your mother. “What do you want?” “I came to tell you dinner is in one hour, at” “Seven I know”
“Fine” With that she left. After dinner, Creighton went to his desk and pulled out some paper. He wrote to Sophie. He did this every week for three months. She told him that the printing shop was fine. “That’s good,” Creighton thought. Excerpt from Sophie’s letter (General Arnlod was using a wooden leg to replace the one blown off.
He plans another attack against the Patriots. He swears he has this war in the bag. Which ever bag that is. Your uncle’s death was never solved. He had a funreal, only attended by his friends. I’m doing the best I can manage by myself. I’ll write soon all my love Sophie. Several months later……..
“Son?” “Yes?” ” You have a visitor outside in the courtyard”
“A visitor,” pondered Creighton. Creighton walked outside.
“Bonjour, Creighton” “Sophie!” They embrace each other in a hug. “I’m here to take you back with me. I need you Creighton. I love you.” The sun begins to sneak behind the clouds. ” I love you too.” They share a passionate kiss, and their fate together has been sealed. Creighton gathered his belongings, left a note to his parents, and traveled with Sophie back to New Orleans. Together they continue the printing shop, and had their own family in the process.
The End

I do not recall how long I have been in the strange place but what I do know is something completely odd is occurring in my life. One moment I am sitting in Doctor Franklins room fiddling around with a deck of cards the next I am in this unfamiliar location. I do not recognize anything in my surroundings. I seem to be surrounded by some sort of big rounded wall of some sort. Oh wait these cant be walls one of them just bumped into me. “ Hey Dave you got to keep walking cause if not those screaming girls are going to catch up to you and you know what that means.” It seems very unlikely the thing talking to me is a wall because last I recall walls do not have faces. Now getting a closer look the thing appears to be a distant cousin of the human race or something like a giant. Sort of like Peter, only about 40 kilos bigger. The thing as I have now decide to call it is giving me a strange look. “Enrique what is wrong are you ok?” I could tell this time that the “Thing” was speaking to me so I answered . “ I am perfectly fine” I responded. “ Ok then keep moving man those fan are going to catch up.” Since when did fans walk I thought they are just made out of parchment. This world is strange. I do what the “ Thing” says and simply continue to walk straight following “Things” lead. He brings me out of these two slabs of glass material that spread apart with out any assistance sort of like magic. Anyways once I walk out of the glass I am in a place that seems to be sort of like a giant room with huge moving machinery with figures inside of them. I didn’t get a chance to examine my surroundings completely because out of no where I hear a ton of voices screaming “Enrique” and “OMG” what is an OMG, not only that but there were a ton of bright lights flashing around me. This seem to startle the “Thing” so he instantly shoved me into one of those giant moving machines that I saw just two seconds ago. Once I am in the machine the “thing” says “oh those crazy fans always following you around. I did not know how to respond but I didn’t have to before I know it my surroundings immobilize and Doctor Franklin appears in front of me. My heart skipped a beat.
Chapter Two
Am I dead because last I knew of doctor he was 6 feet under the ground. “Hello Creighton I am Yoda” were the words to come out of Franklin’s mouth. “ You are Doctor Franklin not a Yoda, isn’t a Yoda some sort of instrument, your not an instrument.” I said looking as confused as a blind mouse with a map. “ Actually young grasshopper I am an instrument I am here to explain to you what is going on in your life at the moment.” Still not willing to give into this madness that is occurring I ask incredulously “ How do you explain these strange occurrences.” “ Well Creighton you’re a wizard.” proclaimed Franklin or Yoda as he prefers to be called. “ I am a wizard?” I say with confusion. “ Yes you are and you are on a mission that is why you brought into the future so you can complete you mission.” said Franklin. “ My mission what is that?” I reply “ Well you see Creighton you have been placed in the year 3000 where you are needed to spread the music of rock dude.” said Franklin. “ Rock? What I just don’t…” I did not get to reach my next word before Franklin/Yoda cut me off . “ Okay Creighton if you want to be a hero and influence the life’s of millions of people take this blue pill and you will have complete knowledge of what is going on right now, or take this red pill and go back to when you were playing with a simple deck of cards and forget that any of this ever happened.” say Franklin. “ What Do people think of hero’s?” I asked “ Well people think of them as idols.” Franklin replied. After having lost all social standards I once owned not the mention realized that everything I once knew was a lie I would be kind of nice to be considered a hero. By the way I don’t have much waiting for me back home so I might as well take the blue pill and stay. “ Hey Franklin give me the blue” I say feeling courageous “Are you sure.” ask Franklin “ Just pass it over” I say. I take the blue pill every thing goes black then I appear on a stage. Wait I feel some sort of power bubbling through me wait my mouth is opening “ Hey everyone how are you I am Enrique Iglesas and thank you so much for coming out tonight.” After the concert I went back stage and was greeted by my very handy body guard “Big Thing”. “Hey lets go sign some autographs for the fans” I say. When I walk outside I see thousands of people waiting to see me. When they first catch my eye they all go crazy “ We love you Enrique is all you hear.” I sit at this table to sign poster and stuff for my fans when this girl comes up to me and says “ Do you know you are my hero do you know how happy you make me and do you know how your music has changed my life?” That’s all I needed to hear to know that I am living in complete happiness.

The next morning, Creighton, Sophie, Peter, and Harry Brown borded a ship called the Kanavowuska. It was heading towards Bristol, England.
As they unpacked their belongings and settled into their cabins, Sophie had a feeling something was going to happen. The ship starts to shake as objects aboard dissolve into something that looks like it was forming a black hole in the middle of the sea. Lightening strikes! One by one, Creighton, Sophie, Peter, then Harry brown are being forced into the hole. Suddenly, the chaos stopped. They fall out of the whole, but they are not at the same place they were at before. For some odd reason, the four people were in the middle of a vacant feild.
Looking far to the left, they see a heard of llamas stampeading towards them. With no idea of how to react, they just stood there. Luckily, these llamas were unique in an unbeleivable way. THEY COULD TALK! Instantly they became friends
The llamas tought them about the new world that just might have to become Crighton,Peter, Sophie, and Harry’s new home. They also mentioned a legend of the rope. According to this legend, every other century a rope comes out of the skye, and if you hold on long and tight enough, it will take you to earth. This “rope”, was there only way home, so they hoped that the time for it has come.
Many months later, sophie was playing with her new friend, Snarga the lawn nomb, when she heard a voice in the skye. She glanced up and saw a rope way out in the distance. She frantically called over the rest of her crew and they wished the llamas and other mystical creatures goodbye. Holding on, they rope disappeared .
The next day, they woke up in a cheese factory in switzerland. Though they were puzzled, they acted like everything was fine. Creighton found a picnic table outside with baskets of cheese. They all sat down and ate. Harry hears a familiar voce and turns around. Seeing Creightons mom! Putting past problems aside they all make up and are a reunited family in switzerland !
BEEP BEEP BEEP. Creighton’s alarm wakes him up , and he takes a quick glance at his surroundings. How is he back on the Lamavowuska? He puts on his slippers and looks in Perer, Sophies, and his fathers cabins. They are all sound asleep. Creighton shrugs and jumps back into his bed. It must have been a dream.

One week later creighten’s body is found and prepared for funeral. Sophie and others mornfully payed for the ceromony. As the funeral began sophie seemed to be the only caring let alone crying.At the closing as they buried the coffin Sophie dropped a tear upon a playing card and rose and left it behind with s kiss.
Three years later Sophie still thinks about Creighten as if he’ll come back standing by the pond with a rock and rope in hand.

The Year of the Hangman: Alternate Ending
As Creighton realizes that life is not a game he thinks about his adventures and all the things he had to do to get to where he was now. He thought about the things he went through and all the craziness that fell upon him. In a minute or so he started to think about a peculiar topic, topic that just kept popping up in his head over and over again no matter how many times he tried to stop thinking about it. He thought about it until he came to a final decision. He remembered the exact person who started it all, his mother.
His brain began to fill with fury as he came across a new understanding. His head throbbed with pain at the thought of his own mother doing such a thing to him. All he wanted to do now was to get revenge on his mother and he would stop at nothing to execute his mission. He began to form an alliance to follow out his plans. Soon the word spread across the seas and found its way to his mother’s ears. Hearing this she began to feel uneasy. In return she started 2 make an alliance of her own to stop her son from making his plan a success.
Creighton told his father about what he wanted to do to his mother. His father agreed to join the alliance considering that she lied about his death and hurt him in many ways. As Creighton searched the seas to find new recruits he came across many of his old time friends. He found George Washington hiding out somewhere in a nearby fort near a training camp of the enemy’s. He was trying to help his friend escape who was being held captive as there slaves. Creighton asked if he needed any help and George replied, “If you can get my friend out of that camp we will be in your debt.” Knowing what he was going to do Creighton secretly maneuvered around the camp and found George Washington’s friend. To his surprise the friend of George was his uncle Hugh. Escaping in the nick of time they fled quickly in the woods where they were safe. As happy as could be George Washington rejoiced in a thunder of yells. He exclaimed, “Now that we are in your debt what would u like me to do for you?” Creighton replied politely, “Will you join my alliance?” Without any hesitation or choice they agreed.
Sooner or later Creighton realized that his alliance was full of men and it made him uneasy. Also he didn’t want to turn into something else so he quickly went to the old print shop hoping to find Sophie. Luckily he found her printing out the new section of the Liberty Tree. Creighton quickly asked her to join the alliance but Sophie refused saying the she was against slavery. Fearing the whole crew of men he begged her and begged her till she could take it any longer. She screamed, “Yes, but I have nothing to do with this at all.” Happily Creighton said, “Thank You” leaving the print shop quickly. Sophie abruptly brought them to a halt. She wanted them to visit Dr. Franklin’s grave to pay tribute to a brave and great man. Remembering the time he spent with him Creighton sadly said a few words and left to carry on the job.
They all sailed to Great Britain together in a ship try to make the fastest trip possible. Reaching the land he saw a line. The line looked as if people where in it. He was correct to everyone’s surprise. It was line of armed forces determined to protect his mother. Shooting cannon balls the ship rolled in to harbor. It was the most horrid battle that was ever seen. There was gun shots and sword swinging all around them. While the alliance stole their attention Creighton snuck away from the battle to find his mother. It was a little too easy considering the guards at the front door. With Creighton’s smartness he snapped the guard’s neck knocking him to the floor. He completely busted the door down seeing his mother hiding under a table. He knew she was completely frightened but he didn’t care. He held the knife to her neck waiting for the right moment. His mother quickly exclaimed, “I’m sorry!” She knew this the end for her and it came ever so quickly.
As Creighton sat in the room of Dr.Franklin room with a deck of cards in his hand,he began to reminisce of the duels and the battles that he previously had endured.He began to throw one card down,each card represented a friend that he had lost during the battle. Creighton began to weep as he thought about how he took all his friends for granted and how he had even at times disrespected them.By the time he had stopped weeping he had one card left in his hand and he thought to himself,”This game takes too much away from me;it is a game I simply can no longer play.

*******Year of the Hangman Alternate Ending*******
Today was the day Creighton would tell his life story to his father. It was all a part of his plan, to have a better father and son relationship. This is how he told his story:
“It all started out when I was in debt. At home, I wouldn’t listen to my mother, I would disobey her and so on. Then one day, I was kidnapped. I come to find out, my mother and Uncle planned it. She wrote me a letter saying I needed to be straightened out”.
Creighton’s father asked, “Were you sad when you found out and why”?
“Yes, at first but after a couple of months passed by, I straightened up and looked at the world in a whole new way. By that I mean, I cared about somebody other than myself. I also went to different places, learning different things about myself”.
Creighton’s father asked:”Really, what have you learned”?
Creighton responded:”Well, for one thing, I don’t like mosquitoes”.
They laughed together.
“All jokes aside, I became more respectful. Now I’m happy I found you father, it’s so great because we can spend lots of time together”.
“Thanks for being here for me dad”. Creighton said.
“Thanks for breaking me out of jail”. Creighton’s father responded.
Just as the words came out of his mouth, the police came, busting though the door, arresting Creighton’s father.
“Sorry dad, I had to do it for the reward money, so I could go live with mom”.
And as Creighton’s father is carried away, he has “shock” written all over his face, saying “how could you, your my son, your my son”!!!
this is my alternate ending to the story enjoy 🙂

Year of the Hangman Alternate Ending
x~x Note: Sorry If I made it so long. I just really love to write a lot. x~x
Creighton, Peter, and Henry had watched as they left the port, staring at Arnold until an explosion happened near him.
“General Arnold!” Peter shouted as he abruptly stood from the boat, nearly loosing his balance.
Creighton stared wide eyed from the place where General Arnold had stood and towards Peter’s shocked reaction.
At that moment Creighton was speechless.
Peter’s fists balled up and his veins popped out angrily. Creighton grabbed hold of the giant’s large arm and said, “Peter! Don’t do anything hasty! I’m sure the general is fine!” Creighton had hesitated on the last sentence, but he tried his hardest to keep his voice calm, “we need to leave before they catch us! We bear no arms at the moment and we need to do as Arnold wanted, to make it back to New Orleans to tell them about what had happened to General Washington!”
The giant’s nostril’s flared and stared at Creighton with dark and horrific eyes that tried to hide the deep pain he felt. Slowly, he let himself calm down and shrugged Creighton from his arm. “I guess you got a point there, eh?” He smiled at Creighton, “let’s go now, General Arnold is strong and I’m sure he will survive.” Peter took his seat as he grabbed the ores and began to row.
Creighton sighed in relief s he took back his position next to his father to aid his illness. He stared back at the port which was slowly disappearing with each row that Peter made.
“I sure do hope that the General is alright,” Creighton mumbled as he took out his pocket knife and examined its blunt edges.
Two days later, Creighton was tired of only seeing the blue water that surrounded him from every corner, and his arms ached from sharing turns rowing with Peter. Peter still hasn’t regained himself of what happened to the General, wondering if he made it out alive or not.
Henry Brown was slowly regaining his health, his fever was gone and he was able to sit up properly. He even offered to row for a few minutes, but Creighton declined his offer and started to explain how his health would not get any better if he rowed.
Though the weather now was scorching hot and they all had a hint of fatigue in them. Creighton tried everything to beat the heat, but nothing worked so far. Perspiration beaded down his forehead one after another.
“Creighton,” Peter began as he rowed, “I wonder how Sophie is doing now.”
It just hit Creighton like a bullet, and his insides twisted as soon as Peter said her name. His head began to throb at the sudden remembrance of Sophie. Creighton had left her without saying he was sorry to her about their fight.
Peter waved his hand about in front of Creighton’s face, “hey, you okay? Creighton?”
Creighton stared out into the ocean feeling the guilt creep upon him slowly. After a few minutes he began to speak, “I… I never said I was sorry to Sophie before we left…”
Peter jerked his head slightly to the right, “sorry for what? You ain’t got anything to be sorry about… do you?” Peter tried hard to remember of what the fight Creighton stated was about. Though with Peter’s lack of memory and the heat, it made it impossible to think straight.
“Yeah but-”
Peter had cut Creighton off, “Creighton! There is a ship coming our way!”
Creighton stared in shock of where Peter gazed at. He was right; there was a ship literally two times their size heading their way. Its flag was hard to see from where he sat. Instead of just sitting there and looking pretty, Creighton scurried to his feet and searched around for a telescope.
“Creighton!” Henry threw an object towards Creighton as he turned around, nearly dropping it.
“It’s a British Liner!” Henry yelled as he peered into the telescope.
“The Brits?!” Peter gasped out, “we ain’t got no weapons to take ‘em on!”
Creighton waved the pistol his father threw towards him, we have one pistol… but it definitely won’t be enough.”
“Nonsense Creighton, there are plenty of weapons on the boat.” Henry dug his hands under a blue blanket and revealed a load of weapons, “and Arnold left his disguise here.” Henry began to change into the British officer clothes while the others loaded themselves with weapons in their coat pockets.
“Peter,” Creighton began, “you should wear something to hide your identity, and they might recognize you.”
“Yeah, you got a point there, but I ain’t got nothing to use.” Peter shrugged and looked around.
Peter was right; none of them had any spare clothes for him, as if they could fit Peter’s humongous figure. “Hmm…” Creighton pondered for a moment, and after a few seconds an idea popped into his head.
“Aha! I got it!” Creighton took the first aid kit and dug into it revealing a white long bandage wrap. “Here, patch this around your head and make it curve over your right eye.”
Peter nodded and began to do as Creighton had instructed him to.
“Creighton, Peter, listen here. Quickly lads!” Henry Brown talked silently in a whisper voice that only the three, who were huddled up together, could hear it. They all agreed to Henry’s plan and went to their stationed places, ready to begin act one, scene one.
Creighton, Peter, and Henry were on the British ship standing poised and calm. Creighton peered about on the ship to see if he might have recognized someone from before. Nope, all of the faces were total strangers to Creighton.
“Henry Brown…” The Captain of the ship danced around them like a fire ball monitoring their every feature and movement. “What are you doing back here? A traitor to your own nationality like yourself should still be in prison…”
“Sir, I believe they let me out since I had grown weak and was worthy enough to manage a tiny boat with these to men.” Henry gestured over to Creighton and Peter.
“I see… but Henry… I heard that a prisoner escaped from our fort, the man in cell number four.” He stopped his pacing right in front of Henry, “so you traitor,” he held up a pistol towards him, “ready to spend time in the grave that you deserve to be in?”
Creighton made a sudden movement in panic, afraid to loose his father. He grabbed the pistol from underneath his coat and shot it right into the chest of the Captain. Henry looked at Creighton shocked, “Creighton!”
The other men on the ship started to attack them, and then the weak captain called out weakly to them, “bring her out.”
As Creighton shot his opponents, one emerged from a room with a familiar face in his arms. His eyes widened and his throat ached, he could feel the throbbing of his angry pulse. “Sophie!”
Sophie was tied by the mouth and was trying to wiggle herself out from the man’s grip. Her eyes were smothered in dry tears and her wrists has been bruised by the grip of the rope that held them together. She was relieved when she saw Creighton right in front of her… so close, but yet so far.
“Sophie!” Creighton ran towards the man and Sophie, but then an explosion was released by the other side of the ship making Creighton lose his balance and topple over other men.
Peter shouted, “It’s the Americans!”
Creighton shot an eager look at where another ship was approaching, and the flag was tall and clear, the Americans had come to their rescue. He smirked in confidence, Creighton now knew that he was safe and he could rescue Sophie.
He stood from where he had fallen, gripping the pistol tightly and charged towards through the men on his way to Sophie.
–A Month Later–
After that, Creighton, Sophie, Peter, and Henry resided at Dr. Franklin’s house and they all continued to work at the Printing Press. It took Creighton a month to recover since he had been shot in his leg and on his side.
Word has gone out that General Arnold had died in battle, what a shame. Hale decided to join the Americans and now he was on an expedition as a new General.
Though on that day, Creighton had received what he had craved for all along.
The wind blew in between Creighton’s hair and whipped against his cheeks as he sat on the front steps of the printing press. He can’t believe how much he had changed over the last few months, all the hardships he faced… just everything. His life showed him a whole new perspective on things, on how the world really was.
“Creighton,” Sophie came out with two cups in her hands and she took a seat next to Creighton. “Here, you must be thirsty,” she handed him one of the cups to him.
“Thank you Sophie.” Creighton smiled warmly as he took a sip from the cup.
“Non, thank you Creighton, for saving me. I know it’s been a month now… but I can’t thank you enough. I was so scared when they came into the printing press and just took me away. I thought, I wasn’t ever going to see you again…”
Creighton was shocked and amused by Sophie’s last words, “me?” he looked at her in disbelief.
“Oui,” Sophie blushed deeply and turned away, and Creighton copied her gesture. They sat there in silence for a few minutes, but Sophie broke the ice.
“Creighton…”
As Creighton turned around he felt something smack on his lips, something pleasant and refreshing. He sat there staring at Sophie, paralyzed by the kiss.
Then she broke away blushing more deeply then before. “Uhh, I’m sorry Creighton! Please forgive me.”
“No, Sophie, it was actually really nice… everything is, and from now on always be.”
The Year of the Hangman 2
He awoke suddenly from a nightmare. Not just any nightmare. A nightmare from his past. A time in which he could not let go much less forget. Now, five years later, he still remembers every detail, every moment, every suspenseful second of that one night vividly.
***
It was early dawn and Creighton couldn’t help but feel the hot humid air surround him. He was peacefully walking along the shore of the ocean, listening intently to the sound of the waves crashing upon the rocks and shells that made up the shore. He was trying to find a place of peace and tranquility where he could put his conscience to rest. After five years, doubt began to creep in his young mind that no such place existed.
***
A few hours had passed and Creighton was sitting along the shore, thinking, reminiscing of the events that had occurred not long ago (well to him). He snapped out of his thoughts when he heard a deep voice approach him. “Creighton?” the deep voice questioned. Creighton jolted up in the air suddenly to see who it was that had frightened him in a moment of deep thought. At first, when he tried to distinguish who it was, the figure was obscure. He thought it was the foggy atmosphere that impaired him from seeing. Shortly after, he realized that it was not the foggy air, but hot, burning tears strolling down his cheeks.
“Creighton,” the hoarse voice said softening. “Are you alright? I think I caught you of guard there, eh?”
“No, Peter. I was just thinking of things. That’s all,” Creighton said, swiftly wiping the tears off his cheek and regaining his normal composure.
“Ok, well I wanted to see why you were over here so early in the morning. I guess curiosity got the best of me.”
“It’s alright.”
“I know it’s been tough between you and your mom.”
“I’m getting over it so don’t worry about me.”
“Well, I’m needed in the print shop so I’d better go then.”
“Bye then.”
As Peter left, Creighton held back the tears getting ready to burst out and publicly embarrass him in front of Peter. When Creighton made sure Peter was gone, he burst out in tears and this time did not try to control himself. The painful memory slowly came up and the memory stung worse than all the mosquitoes that had bit him in New Orleans combined.
***
Creighton yanked at his father like a young boy eager to engage in recreation with friends. They had almost made it to their house in Britain when they see his mother coming out of the restaurant hand in hand with another man and a toddler dragging behind. Creighton rubbed his eyes and couldn’t believe his eyes. Was this HIS mother? Could it have been? He started to run toward the woman and turned her around. When he sees who she is, he is shocked to see that it is not his mother but another woman. He quickly apologizes and turns to walk away when he sees a familiar figure walking down the street toward the house he has long been present in.
“MOTHER, MOTHER,” he desperately and frantically cries to get her attention. She turns around and sees Creighton running towards her in an astonishing manner. She quickly recognizes her son and starts crying. They embrace for a long time until Harry Brown came and there was a moment of silence. “I thought you were dead,” she said. “Many people thought the same thing,” was his simple reply.
“Well come in the house, your house.” They all went inside and saw what they had longed to see for a very long time, except for the fact that there were a few minor changes. “Well. Tell me everything. What happened? Why did the colonel lie to me? ” Harry was just about to speak when his son rudely interrupted him and told her everything. She looked astonished and her eyes grew wide when Creighton told her about how his father warned the Americans and how Creighton helped the American cause and then about the colonel. That clearly was the last straw. She stood up and said quickly, “Creighton, go to your room right now. That is if you remember where it is.” “Yes, mother.” He went into his room but left a little crack open. He peered out the crack and listened intently. He heard his mother say, “What are you doing here? What have you done to my son? Where is his honor and loyalty for his country? How dare you do that to him?” “Now wait a mome……” “No I have waited long enough. I want you and the boy out of this house right now! Do you hear me?! Right now!! I never knew you or the boy. Get out of my house right now or I will call the police and have you both hanged for this treason! What were you thinking when you did that? Now you’re boy has no honor! I never want to see you both again! You are both dead to me! Do you understand?! I have moved on! I will forget both you and the boy!” “Wait a moment,” “NO! I WANT YOU OUT OF MY HOUSE!” “Have you even stopped to consider the boy’s feeling about this?” “I DON’T CARE! He is not my problem! He’s yours! Now GET OUT!”
***
He was suddenly interrupted by the sound of a sweet, gentle voice he knew so well and grew to love. “Creighton.” He slowly turned around only to find his mother standing in front of him only a few feet away.

Epilogue
After all that happened…Creighton Brown became a loyal and thoughtful human being. He learned what it meant to be honorable and to respect everyone. Creighton still lives with his father and Sophie in Dr.Franklin’s house. They still print the newspaper and Sophie accepted Creighton’s idea of cganging up the newspaper. Creighton and Sophie are getting closer to each other and are becoming great friends. Sophie is still doing the lessons that DrFranklins made for her. She still hasn’t mastered humilty.Peter still stops by every once in a while. He helps in the printing press. Creighton and Harry are now true friends. Harry Brown is doing better and is training soliders for the United States army(they are going to try to win the war against Britain….rematch). Hale is still in Pensecola. He writes to Creighton every once in a while. Creighton still misses his old ways but he likes the person he has becoe. He now cares about more important things that when he is going to gamble next. He now has beter things to think about. But the best thing that hapened to Creighton was that he gets to live.
After five months of nursing his father back to health, Creighton’s first move was to write his mother a letter and tell her the good news.
The letter read:
Dearest mother,
Father is alive. He is with me, we are safe. I am so overjoyed you sent me here.
I’m beginning to make new friends and adjust to a new life. I quit playing cards also. I have also begun to do things for myself. Except, my friend Sophie does my laundry, cooks, and cleans father and my quarters.
How are things back in England? Tell everyone I say hello and bid them good luck
Love, Creighton
While Creighton spent days on edge, waiting for his mothers letter to arrive in the mail, he helped Sophie and peter in the printing shop they had fixed, and developed new type with the help of one of Dr. Franklin’s closest companions, Thomas Jefferson. While Creighton was assembling words, Sophie burst through the door with mail.
“Here Creighton, you have a letter.” She said as she shoved the letter in his direction with so much aggression it shocked Creighton.
“What’s the matter Sophie?” Creighton asked as he ripped the envelope to shreds as he began to unfold his letter and read it.
“What does it say?” she asked as she peered at the letter over his shoulder.
“Aren’t you practicing controlling your nosiness?” Creighton asked in a disgusted tone.
“Qui!” Sophie replied. “It’s harder than humility!” She screamed as she snatched the letter from Creighton’s hands. “Your mother says she’s engaged. And she’s happy Harry is alive and you found each other.”
“Sophie, that was private.” Creighton said. “Well, your English is improving; I guess I don’t have to give you lessons anymore.” He told her as she began to walk through the door way.
Creighton has been giving Sophie English lessons in return to helping him take care of his father. Sophie’s plan in learning English was to marry a rich American who could easily pay for her ticket to France, and if he wouldn’t, she would become the first woman representative of the children of liberty.
Peter was never around much, he spent most of his time training with General Arnold to be a first string fighter in the patriot’s army. It was usually only Sophie and Creighton around, and they often talked to each other. These talks often caused them to fight with each other. Last week they fought over who spelt ‘commotion’ wrong in the paper.
“It wasn’t me; I know what I’m doing!” Sophie argued.
“Well I’m fluent in English, so I know how to spell.” Creighton shot back.
“You nincompoop! I didn’t say you weren’t fluent in English, I said you spelt a word wrong!” Sophie said as she threw a type at Creighton’s face. “I can not work with someone who has the capability of a moose, a wild one at that!” she said as she stormed out of the print shop and into the kitchen to make dinner.
Their fights were usually petty since they didn’t really know much about each other. Creighton secretly loved Sophie, and the little he knew about her. She was so free and honest, unlike him.
Sophie despised Creighton with all of her being, from the tip of her toes to the crown of her head. Unlike Creighton, she refused to make that a secret; she let him know every chance she got.
When she finished cooking dinner and she brought Creighton’s father his soup, she went to the print shop and found Creighton assembling a new page of type.
“I hate you.” she said as she stared at him for five minutes.
“I know Sophie.” Creighton said as he turned and smiled at her, trying to make words with out looking. When he pressed on the lower left edge of the tray instead of putting a ‘b’ next to an ‘e’ it collapsed and fell through and onto the floor.
“You are the most unaccomplished, clumsy gaffe, I have ever met…” she mumbled as she turned on her heels and began to walk away. “By the way, Creighton, dinners done.” She said as she slammed the door to the printing press.
Creighton recapped that day, as he held the letter from his mother in his hands.
In utter disgust, he tossed it into the trash can. Not once did she say she loved or missed him, or his father.
When Sophie returned to the printing shop she looked at Creighton with wide eyes. “Creighton,” she screamed. “There’s a woman at the door! She has long wavy fair-haired hair; with eyes just like yours… she said she’s your mother.”
Year Of The Hangman – Alternate Ending:
Creighton’s eyes almost welled with tears for in this essay, Doctor Franklin’s words spoke the truth. Creighton pondered for an instant as he refelcted back upon his experiences in real warfare. He shook his head quickly trying to get rid of the memories nipping at his mind. It seemed to work, for now anyways. Creighton slipped the essay back into it’s spot, but as he pulled away his clumziness decided to reveal itself causing him to knock over the contraption Doctor Franklin called the steam engine. The water contents began to spill onto the bare and darkwood floor. For an instant Creighton paused to see if he had woken his father but suprisingly, he hadn’t. Creighton sliently crept to the door, snuffed out his candle and started toward his room. For some odd reason, a powerful urge suddenly caused him to proceed in the direction of the printing shop. Much like an invisible force sweeping him outdoors; too strong for him to try and fight. As Creighton stepped into the mosquito infested damp night air, he stoop for a moment examining the rebuilt but still burn-damaged shop.
He entered the shop cringing slightly as the smell of burnt wood sharply assaulted his nostrils. He let out a cough as the smell had taken him by suprise. The next instant Creighton heard a sound, almost as if someone was in the room with him. He quickly scanned the room only to notice that there was a second body there. Startled, creighton called out “Who’s there?” he said trying not to sound shocked and scared. “Ah, Creighton it is only me, Sophie.” replied the all to familiar voice. Creighton let out a small sigh of relief, then asked “Oh good, but why are you in here? At this hour?” Creighton was curious, he had assumed she was in her quaters sound asleep. “Why are you?” she asked cautiously. “Er..um..I don’t exactly know, to be honest.” It was a good thing it was dark, for it was best she didn’t see his flustered face. “That is..um how do you say..interesting? I am out here for a reason, i do not quite know either.” said Sophie. “I just wish thet everything,” Sophie pressed on, “was how it was before all of this. Doctor Franklin was so kind, probably the only one who will ever care as much as he did. I really do miss him Creighton.”
Creighton suspected that Sophie was holding back her tears. “Me too. He really was a wise and great man, I miss him just as mush as you and-” Creighton cut himself off as something caught his attention. He saw it in the far corner of the shop by the window. The moonlight shone on the object causing it to reveal the silvery material is was made of. “Qu’est-ce que c’est? What is it?” Sophie asked when Creighton ceased talking. He did not respond, he merely walked over to where the object was illuminated and picked it up. Badly bent and somewhat blackened from the fire were Doctor Franklin’s bifocals. Sophie gasped then fell silent. She knew what Creighton held in his hands. Suddenly a smile spread across Creighton’s face, it had been a long time since his last one. He had no idea why, but he was smiling. “Amazingly enough these were the only things to have survived the fire intact, besides some of the types.” Creighton chuckled to himself though he had no idea why. “Oui, but why are you laughing?” Sophie asked in a shocked tone. “I think,” Creighton said, ” that it is all i can do. Doctor Franklin didn’t want us to mourn. Why should we? We should not frown because he is gone, correct? We should smile for all the great things he has done.” Sophie seemed to pause before answering. “Oui,” and she began to almost giggle, “Creighton I never thought that such an english man as you would ever be so wise.” They both laughed at the playful teasing. For a while Creighton thought nothing would ever be great again. But for the first time in a long time his mindset changed, this is not the end at all. It is just a new begining.

It is the same day as the ending of the story, it starts with the ending of the Year Of The Hangman :). ENJOYYYYY.
As Creighton gathered up the cards on the table he said “no not anymore.” His father saw a weird, bright light from the card in Creighton’s hand. He grabbed the card from Creighton and they were shocked and interested at the same time. A mysterious joker face appeared from the card. The joker face told them to say “five four three two one.” They did what the joker face told them to do. At the same moment Creighton and his father said “five four three two one.” And somehow magically they appeared in a old building. In the building there were about 10 dead bodies, however one of them caught Harry Brown’s eyes. He knew the face of the person, but he just couldn’t think of his name. He slowly walked closer and closer to the body. Next to the body was the name, George Washington. Brown could not believe his eyes. George Washington laid right in front of him. Harry Brown went searching into George Washington’s coat and he found five different numbers. The numbers were familiar to harry but he didn’t know why. “Dad..?” Creighton said. “Are you okay?” Harry Brown turned around and shoved the paper into his pants pocket. “Yes, son I am. Now let’s try to figure out how to get back home.”
Creighton and Harry Brown walked all the way back to the house in complete silence. As they were arriving back at Sophie’s and Peter’s house, Harry Brown continued thinking about the numbers, trying to remember where they were from. He remembered them from when he use to fight for the English, before he “betrayed” them. He walked straight up to Dr. Franklins old room, laid down on the bed, and let his mind wonder. He knew he wasn’t going to be able to get sleep until he figured it out, but he was wrong, because a few minutes later he had dozed off to sleep. Creighton went into the room to check on him, but all he heard was snoring so he exited and softly shut the door. Images, pictures, numbers, and people’s faces raced through Brown’s mind as he slept. The face that kept appearing was that of George Washington and a picture of a prison cell. In his dream he tried to focus on the number of the cell, but it was extremely blurry. Finally the number of the cell came to focus in his dream, it matched the numbers on the paper he found in George Washington’s coat. He woke immediately and he knew where the cell was, and who it contained. Harry Brown grabbed his coat and raced off, the last thing he heard was Creighton’s voice saying “Dad…? Where are you going?”

Period 2
“We need to see cell number four immediately”, demanded Arnold. They had just arrived to the prison, using Colonel Gower’s last words. They trekked through the dim hallway that leads to the small cell. When they arrived to the front of it, there were two figures moving about inside.
“Well, it seems like we’ve found Washington!” exclaimed Arnold. The guard unlocked the door and began to bring Washington out.
“But who is the other man with him?” inquired Creighton.
“My name is Brown, Harry Brown”, said the man. Creighton stared blankly at the man that was supposed to be dead.
“Dad”, Creighton said happily. He was overwhelmed with joy as he embraced his long lost father. However, Harry Brown and Washington were both very ill.
“We need to get them back to New Orleans”, stated Creighton. Creighton, Harry, Washington, Peter and Lieutenant Hale swiftly left the prison without being noticed and started on their journey back to the New Orleans. Washington knew exactly which direction to go so they would not run into British soldiers.
After 2 weeks, they finally arrived in New Orleans. Creighton was hoping Sophie would not be mad at him anymore. He remembered the fight he had gotten into with her when he left, hoping she would be practicing forgiveness this week.
“Welcome!” Sophie exclaimed as she saw the tired men walking toward the printing shop. “My word, let’s get these men in better health right away”. While Creighton examined the newly rebuilt print shop, Sophie attended to Washington and Harry.
“Things seem to be getting back to normal here”, said Peter.
“You can say that again”, agreed Creighton.
Creighton and Peter helped Sophie for the next 2 months while General Washington and Harry Brown got better.
“Son, we have some things we need to discuss,” said Mr. Brown to Creighton, who was reading in his Father’s room.
“We will be leaving soon. I believe it is time we returned to England”, Harry explained.
“What? Why go back to the life that caused both of us so much pain?” Creighton practically screamed.
“It is still our life. The life we left behind. We are some of the few British people to know what is really going on”, Harry Brown said, looking at Creighton to see if he understood. Creighton thought quietly, processing all of the information his father had seem to spring upon him at once. Would people believe them if they went back or would they be hung on the gallows for speaking out? So many questions went through Creighton’s head that the spot where Colonel Gower had hit him began to throb.
“Son?” asked Mr. Brown.
“Yes, I will go with you”, answered Creighton.
“Our ship leaves tomorrow at dawn”, Harry stated.
Creighton left the room to gather his things. Peter and Hale wished him luck on his journey.
“Don’t worry about us. We will stay here and take care of Sophie and help with the printing shop”, Peter explained.
“I will help Washington finally put an end to the war peacefully, just like Dr. Franklin would have wanted”, Hale assured.
“Thank you for everything you have done”, thanked Creighton.
The next morning as Creighton boarded the ship, he looked back at the land that had seemed to feel more like home than England had.
“All aboard!” yelled the captain as the last of the crew boarded the ship.
“We’ll come back soon, once the war is completely over”, his father stated putting his arm on his shoulder. Creighton smiled as he turned around, now looking at the sun coming up over the horizon. Just as the sun starts a new day, Creighton knew this was a new beginning, not only for him, but for a nation.

Creighton was in New Orleans for sometime now. The newspaper was running quite smoothly, which he would never have guessed was possible, since it was only him, Sophie, and his dad occasionally. They also had hired these twins age of 22 to help pass out the newspaper. Everything seemed to be heading in a better way, but unfortunately good things don’t last.
Just the other day he received a letter from his mother saying she had been searching for him for quite a while now, and that she was to be remarried on June 07, which was just a 3 months from today’s date. Creighton had no idea what to do. Should he attend his mothers wedding, the woman who sent him to the Americans where he almost died, yet found his father, And on top of that to another man that he hated. Also he had to consider that his mother didn’t really know that his father was alive, she could even call off the wedding if she saw Harry again. Also now when he started to feel a deep love for Sophie, his mother decides to want him back. He couldn’t even imagine a life without his dear Sophie by his side any more. What was he to do?
“Sophie” called Creighton
“Oui” She replied.
“There you are, we need to talk. It’s really important.”
“What is it?” she said with curiosity filling her eyes.
“Okay well you know how I told you that my mother is in England?”
“Oui”
“Well my dearest Sophie I’m really sorry, but I must return to England, to stop her from marrying this awful man.
“But Creighton”
“No Sophie please, not another word until the morning, it’s already to hard to leave the print shop, and ….well you. Just please pack my father stuff, for he is to accompany me on this journey. We leave tomorrow morning right before dawn, and to be honest with you I’m not sure when or even if I’m coming back”
And with that he was gone.
As Sophie watched him leave tears started falling from her eyes. She thought to herself, I can’t let this happen what if he really never comes back, I must follow him. I can’t lose him, I can lose my love.
And with that she quickly scurried off packing Harry browns belongings along with hers.
What will happen in England, will Harry brown and his wife get back together, or will the wedding go on?!
What will happen to Creighton and Sophie, will they tell each other how they really feel?
Find out in the new book “Returning back“.
I countinued my story from after the chapter where Benjamin Franklin has been prounounced dead.
Bang! Bang! Creighton heard an alarming noise coming from the wooden door at the front of the house. He stepped out of the bed to go see who was at the door. As he wiped the eye crust from his eyes and grabbed on a pair of shorts. Bang! Bang! The knocks became louder and louder.
“I’m coming!” Creighton yelled as he trailed his way towards the door.
As soon as Creighton turned the lock, three large men busted through the door.
“By order of England we are authorized to take you under custody. You will be put on trial and then will be hanged.” spoke the biggest of the three men.
Before a word could come out of Creighton’s mouth, he was bagged, cuffed, and hauled onto a saddle of a horse. When he finally got his breath back, he searched around and noticed that his dad, Sophie, and Peter was also riding next to him on different horses. Creighton tried to talk Sophie but then realized that he was had a piece of cloth in his mouth. ‘Oh great…second time this has happened to me’ Creighton thought to himself.
***
When Creighton awoke from what he thought was a bad nightmare, soon realized that it was true. Sophie, his dad, Peter, and himself are now in custody of the English. He turned when he felt a tap on his shoulder. When he turned he saw Sophie staring back at him.
“Do you know anything about this” Sophie whispered.
“Nope. I have no clue” Creighton said puzzled.
“Creigh-” Sophie started, but then was interrupted.
“By order of England, you four are being sentenced to be hanged. You are being charged for rebelling against the English and illegally running an underground newspaper that has also been rebelling against the English. Your general, General Arnold, and your previous general, General Washington, was previously hung this week.” spoke a short, about 5’3, completey bald and looked like he was in his late 40’s.
A big gasp came from Sophie’s mouth.
***
Soon came the day of the hanging. Walking out from this singled out door came Creighton’s father, Peter, Sophie, and Creighton in handcuffs walking in a single filed line. As each of the stepped their last step onto the plank of wood, in which they would be hooked and tied to the rope.
The first one to step up onto the plate was Peter. Peter went up, held his head up high and went down with dignity and respect.
Next to go was Creighton’s father. Creighton could not watch this terrible tragedy. All his teenage life Creighton thought his dad died at the end of a rope. Well, now this is all happening. Right before Creighton’s face his father was about to die at the end of a rope…just this time it wasn’t happening in his dreams. It was right there, facing him. His worst nightmare. As the trap door went in, Creighton felt his stomach drop.
Creighton felt uneasy. He knew that Sophie was next. As Sophie unsteadily stepped up to the podium, Creighton was about to be sick. As Sophie’s trap door was being released she mouthed the words “I love you” to Creighton. A tear rolled down Creighton’s cheek.
Finally, it was Creighton’s turn. The final thought that came into Creighton head was that he used to play around with being hanged. But right now at this moment it is real. The game that he has been playing since he was a child was actually coming to life.
As Creighton stepped up for his turn he had a sudden realization. That he has done the right things…and that he is dying for a right purpose. And just like that everything just SNAPPED.
we have to get your aproval before we post it ?
……..Two Years Later……….
“I bet 30 pounds.” said Creighton, with four cards in his hand. He was sitting around a table with two other guys named John and Mark. He knew that he was doing something wrong but did not know what it was.
Mark said,” Wow Creighton that is a lot of money for someone your age to be betting.”
“Well you know how I am.” said Creighton.
Creighton was a boy who likes to get into trouble and when he plays cards he thinks he is the best but really he plays like CRAP!!!!
Creighton knew he did not have the best hand, but was hoping they would not see him bluffing. The guys were looking at each other and finally Mark said,” Man I really thought I had it, I fold.”
Creighton knew Mark was not really good at cards and most of the time quit early which he did. On the other hand, John was one of the best men in town who won every card game.
Creighton looked at John with this look that said”I know you think I do not have it but think again.”
Finally John responded by saying”Ha Ha he thinks he can play me” At that moment Creighton got nervous. Mark just smiled and laughed!
Five minutes passed and nobody said or did anything.
John stood up and said to Creighton,” You are really lucky!”
Then he threw his cards on the table. All of a sudden it hit Creighton. He told his father that he was done playing cards but he just did it.
Now what does he do????????
Creighton and Peter returned to Dr. Franklin’s house, Peter Carrying Harry Brown. To their surprise Sophie was not in the house, and the print shop looked untouched. They first put Harry Brown in Creighton’s old room before searching through the house for Sophie. They worried, did something happen to Sophie? Maybe she just left, and gave up on the print shop. No, Sophie was too committed to Dr. Franklin. They gave up searching the house and retreated to Dr. Franklin’s room. They were quite both thinking of the possibilities.
“Maybe she had to make a run into town?” Peter said trying to think positive. “Out for what? We looked in the pantry; there is plenty of food here Creighton said with a much less positive than Peter.
They were quite again. Peter broke the silence “Maybe she went looking for help, to rebuild the print shop” she said raising his eyebrows trying to convince Creighton. “Or maybe she’s visiting somebody!” Peter said, his hopes obviously rising. Creighton was not so easily satisfied, but did not want to hurt his friends feelings so he replied “Hey, maybe your right” trying to sound as if his spirits were raised. There was more silence. “Why don’t we start fixing up the print shop, it can be a surprise for Sophie when she returns” If she comes back Creighton thought before answering “good idea Peter”
They had just begun picking pieces of what was left of the print shop before guns went off. Two bullets penetrated Peter in the back. He fell down onto the rubbish with a loud thump. Creighton twisted around, “what the devil? Peter!” he yelled. It was too late, Peter died before he even hit the ground. Creighton looked around furiously trying to locate were the guns had been shot from. They emerged, it was British soldiers, and they had Sophie.
Before Creighton had a chance to think two soldiers had him down, roped, and gagged. Memories of the last time he had cloth in his mouth flooded back. He was still conscious, but the blind folded him. The struggle began, resulting in Creighton losing his privilege to be conscious.
When he awoke the blind fold had been removed. He was tied to a tree in what looked like the middle of nowhere, the mosquitoes bit at his face, more bad memories returned. He saw Sophie tied to a tree directly opposite him. She was conscious, but also gagged. He could see she had been crying. She squealed and kicked when Creighton lifted his head. He was going to ask what happened and if she was okay, but the gag rag wouldn’t allow him to make anything more than a grunt. Neither could talk, so they just stared at each other until the men came back. “Hey boss, he’s awake” one of them said. “Boss”, a tall skinny guy holding a musket in his hand approached Creighton. Creighton felt his heart speed up. “Boss” got right down to business, “What relations did you have with Dr. Franklin? Where you close to him?” Creighton starred at him and made a grunting noise, reminding them he had a rag shoved in his mouth. Without speaking he reached forward and ripped I out. Creighton coughed and spat. “Answer me” the man said getting impatient “how did you know Dr. Franklin”.
“I only came to work with him for a few months” he said trying to gather some saliva in his mouth. The man looked at Sophie and smiled, “I guess you weren’t lying after all, you really are the only one close to Franklin”. He looked down at Creighton, “sorry, we cant use you” the last thing Creighton heard was a gun shot.

Creighton jumped, waking abruptly. He had drool dripping down from his face. His father had thrown a bag carrying all of Creighton’s belongings, hitting him hard in the head.
“Ahh! What did you do THAT for?! What’s th-“
“Shh! Quiet boy!” his father said in a hushed voice. “Duck down”.
Harry Brown realized that he would like to go away on a nice voyage and live his life with is son by his side. There are many things he didn’t get to teach Creighton because of his long absence.
Harry Brown signaled Creighton to follow him. He led him out of the house and on to a ship where they could finally speak aloud. On the boat, he saw that Sophie, Lieutenant Hale, and Peter were already boarded. They got ready to leave for the clear, blue sea, and live their lives peacefully.
After everyone settled down, they all got to talking and enjoying the idea of not having stress on their shoulders.
“So that was an experience that we will never forget,” Creighton said breaking the side conversations.
“One that I’ll never forget,” chorused Sophie and Peter. They were all comforted that their adventure was over. When the sun had set Harry Brown woke Creighton and they both sat on the deck, glancing up at the night sky.
“It’s exquisite,” said Creighton in a low tone.
“Yeah, it really is beautiful in its own natural way,” his father agreed. “Hey, son?”
“Yeah?”
“I’m very proud of you, and I can’t believe how much you’ve grown up. I enjoy being able to see the man that you’ve become”.
“Thanks dad. That means a lot to me. I’m glad I’m with you right now too”.
This is how it should and will be. From now and to the end of time”.
Harry stood up, followed by Creighton. He wrapped his arms around his son and let out a happy sigh.
“I love you dad,” Creighton said sympathetically.
“I love you too son,” his father said happily.
Response to Aleeyah’s story: your ending was really cool suspenseful, and hilarious all at the same time i thought you did really good on yours.
The Ending Of My Year of The Hangman (Dun Dun Dun!!)
“The Devil!! someone shouted. They’ve wedged it shut!!. Spurred by fear, Creighton clambered onto the desk and thrust his torso through the opening.” HALT!!” ordered a voice behind him. Creighton’s feet scrabbled at the stones unable to find a purchase. Peter took hold of his arms, but before he could pull Creighton free, the gaurd had thrust his pistol through the opening in the door and fired. Creighton cried out ” I’ve been Hit” in a low,faint scream as something struck his lower left leg, sending pain coursing through it. As a natural reflex Creighton let go of Peter’s hands and grabbed for his leg, but before he could Peter regained control of Creighton’s hands and pulled him up again. A split second before Creighton could escape through again, a trio of guards grabbed Creighton’s complete lower body and pulled him back through yet once again. With no chance of saving him Peter, Arnold, and Harry Brown fled the scene on hearing a faint “Bang!Bang!” in the distance. In his haste to escape Harry Brown got his own son thrown in jail just as he was for his own self-ish actions. The guilt of having Creighton put in jail tortured him mentally and phisically for many sllepless days, nights, and weeks. Until 2 months later when an editorial on Creighton’s arrest was published. It read ” Today’s news teenager Creighton rown reportedly from England was arrested two months ago. He was sentenced 25 years to Life in prison, apparantely for Damage of property, Trespassing, Truency, Breaking an entering, Resistance of arrest, and AiB79K(a fancy code for aiding in the escape of a prisoner). The only upside to this story is that since Creighton plead guilty to his wrongdoing he was given a trial date 7 years into his sentencing for a chance of supervisional probation by conduct of the ……etc….etc….. This somewhat brought a happy smirk onto Harry Brown’s face, but it was all gone when the last sentence of the editorial read ” Sadly none of these operations can be taken as to the fact that after the capture of Creighton Brown he was shot twice by the authoritized guards on duty accidentally shooting him in a vital organ causing his Creighton!. Creighton!! come on wake up Creighton lets go we’ve gotta run come on. Coming back to reality now Crieghton immediately reached for his leg feeling a horrible pain running up and down his thigh but 4 sum reason not his leg. When suddenly Peter shouted from the gun wales on the ship “Don’t worry about your leg we’ve amputated it because the gunshot wounds you recieved penetrated your leg to deeply, Now come on the rebels are closing in on us.” With that in mind Creighton finally mustered up the strength to hobble out of the boat (of course with his father’s help) and fleeing all the way back to the print shop living happily with Sophie running the print shop and carrying on Dr.Franklin’s passion which eventually became theirs to. About 5 years later they sold the print shop to a bigger company making a profit of 2.5 million dollars which bought them the biggest house money could by away from the war away from all the comotion where they could finally live in peace. Now they were finally living life.
*A YEAR LATER…*
“See you later Sophie!” Creighton shouted as he started for the door of the printing shop. “I’ll be back by 10:00.” Creighton, realizing that he was late, began to run towards the location where General Arnold instructed him to go. Lately, Creighton had become very involved with the Yankees and has been attending secret meetings. It was at these meetings that General Arnold discussed new war plans… they often included Creighton’s help.
When Creighton finally reached his destination (a tavern in the center of town) he found that there was no one there. Well, at least no one he recognized. He was sure that this was where he was supposed to go. He decided to approach the woman at the counter. When he reached the counter, the woman didn’t look up. She appeared to be counting change. “Ahem,” Creighton said, looking a little bit annoyed. “Uh, what can I do for you…uh, sir?” she replied, still without looking up. Creighton quickly became aggravated. “Um, ma’am?” No reply. “MA’AM!” The woman looked up. “Have you by any chance seen General Arnold?” Creighton asked. “Uh, yeah, I have.” She replied, becoming as annoyed as Creighton. “And where was he?” Creighton asked, deciding that he might have to get specific with the hag. “Are you Creighton? Creighton Brown?” She asked, starting to look nervous instead of annoyed. “YES! WHERE IS GENERAL ARNOLD?!” The shrew became annoyed again and said, “Geeze, kid. You don’t gotta freak out. Arnold said that the place was too full o’ Brits to say anythin’ about their fancy little plans… even if they are on our side. Anywho, he and a group of, like, seven other men said to tell you where they’re headed.” “So where are they headed?” replied Creighton, making sure that his tone of voice told the wench that he wasn’t in the mood for word games. “To another tavern.” She paused. “It’s just down the road. On the corner by fountain near city hall. He said that he and his buddies were meeting in the back room and that you need the password… it’s uh, Lucy. Lucy, and you better remember it ‘cuz you ain’t attending that meeting without it.” Creighton thanked the woman and left.
Upon entering the building, Creighton spotted a burly gentleman standing in back of the counter, chatting with a woman seated across from him. Creighton took a seat at the far end of the counter, not wanting to be heard by the woman as he communicated with the burly Yankee. After about five minutes, the gentleman approached Creighton. “What can I do ‘fer ya?” He asked, seeming much more pleasant than the hag at the other tavern. “Um, I’m here to meet with General Arnold.” “Oh, well, do ya know the password? Without the password, I can’t let ya in,” the man said, leaning in closer to Creighton. “Lucy,” Creighton whispered, imitating the man’s attempt at secrecy. “Well, then, follow me! General Arnold has been waitin’ for ya to arrive, and now, well, the gang’s all here!” Creighton followed the man through a door in the back of the kitchen.
The room he entered was dark, but Creighton could make out the shapes of six people seated around a small table. The first he recognized was General Arnold’s. Then, he saw Peter…well, actually, Peter waved at him. He recognized three out of the four remaining figures, random men who worked with General Arnold. The fourth figure was more of a shadow, for he was seated further back, in the dark. The figure suddenly moved into the dim section of light, and Creighton found himself looking into his mother’s eyes.
“What the-” Creighton gasped. “Why… who… what’s going on?” “Creighton,” his mother started “I am, well, I have been, working with the Yankees… for a while now. I know what your father did and I know that he is alive, but…” “You knew? I don’t get it. Wait, how long have you known?” “Always.” “Why didn’t you tell me? You have been working with the Yankees all this time? Why did you send me here in the first place?” “It wasn’t me… I didn’t know…” “HOW!? HOW DID YOU NOT KNOW!? WHO DID IT THEN?!” Creighton was furious. He struggled not to burst into tears. “It was… my husband.” Creighton grabbed the edge of the table, afraid that he might just fall over. “HUSBAND?! WHAT HUSBAND!? WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!” Creighton paused. Then, he looked her straight in the eyes and whispered, “Tell me you don’t mean that jerk of a boyfriend that is always hanging around you…please.” “Yes, it is. I’m so, so sorry.” “DAD IS STILL ALIVE AND YOU KNEW IT! HOW COULD YOU DO SUCH A THING!?” “I don’t know. He was very good at getting me to do things. All I do know is that we are in the process of planning an invasion of Britain and when we do… he is going down. Your father… my husband… and I will make it happen.” She glanced towards General Arnold. “Are you in?”
This is Leana Janik’s and Hunter Reitkopf’s alternate ending (:
We hope you like it!
Creighton Brown, General Benedict Arnold, Colonel Gower, and Lieutenant Hale were all preparing for a brutal duel. The sides consisted of Creighton and Arnold against Gower and Hale. Many shots were fired, but in the end, Gower was shot by Arnold in his left shoulder. Creighton quickly rushed to his uncle’s aid. Gower mumbled his last words to Creighton. They were, “As one of my last orders, go to your father. He is at St. Marks, number four”. To show respect for his uncle, Creighton obeyed his uncle’s last request.
Creighton arrived at St. Marks in a determined state. He sprinted to jail cell number four hoping to witness his father, but saw General Washington instead. Both Creighton and Washington stood for a moment in total shock and confusion. Creighton expected to see his father, Harry Brown, but was now disappointed to encounter General Washington. Then, Washington told Creighton some horrific news; Harry Brown was dead. Creighton was devastated. Not only did he just loose his uncle, he just found out his father was gone as well. Washington then stated that Harry Brown died of Xroscyghto. Xroscyghto is a deadly disease that rapidly affects the heart. It’s very rare so the cure has not yet been discovered. Creighton could hear no more, so he headed back to Hale and Arnold.
Creighton relayed the terrible message to Hale. Lieutenant Hale couldn’t take it any longer, so he finally told Creighton the truth. “Your father didn’t die of Xroscyghto, General George Washington murdered him.”, is what Hale said. Creighton was shocked. He couldn’t believe the horrible news. With the knowledge of Washington killing Harry Brown, Creighton’s father, all Creighton could think about was getting revenge.
Creighton gathered up his weapons and descended for St. Marks, where Washington was located. He thought of all the things he could possibly do to Washington. He wanted to hurt him extremely badly. Creighton had to suck up his sorrow, from loosing his uncle and father, and do what he had to do, which was kill General George Washington. He would do it not only for himself, but for his father and uncle too.
He quickly traveled to jail cell number four, Washington’s location. General Washington was sleeping in his trashy cot. Tip-toeing, he quietly unlocked the cell, with the near-by key, and wasted no time. Creighton didn’t want to just shoot Washington, he wanted him to feel the pain his uncle and father had to go through. So Creighton began to strangle Washington but didn’t succeed. Instead, Washington beat him at his own game. The general woke up, grabbed his pistol, and slapped Creighton upside his head with it. Crawling along the floor, Creighton felt the pain rush to his head. Washington was aware of why Creighton had come, to seek revenge.
They fought for awhile. General Washington had an advantage, of course, because of his experience and size. However, Creighton put up an even fight. After all the battling, Creighton finally finished what he came there to do. He walked out of St. Marks with his head held high, and proud of what he had just done. Colonel Gower and Harry Brown were both smiling above him.
THE END!
Nicholas A.
Period 2.
Soon after Creighton’s father recovered, he and Creighton debated on whether or not to stay in New Orleans.
” I’d rather not go back to England. They would consider me a traitor and things wouldn’t be swell for both you and your mother,” his father said with a worrisome expression.
At the sound of the word ‘mother’, Creighton instantly went off into a daze and begun thinking of his mother. At the beginning, he thought her a dreadful woman for sending him off to his uncle. Now though, he didn’t think so badly of her, for if she had never sent him away, he would have never met Peter, Sophie, Franklin, or even his father.
He awoke from his daze as Sophie walked into the room.
“Hello! Creighton, are you ready to go to wor…”
She stopped when she saw the intense look upon their faces.
“Did i interrupt something?”
“No,no. We were just talking about whether or not were going to England or staying here.”said creighton.
In that moment, a sad expression ensnared her.
“O…”,she said as she quikly turned around and walked out of the room.He became worried and started off after her, but as soon as he walked out of Franklins room, a giant stepped in front of him. “Is Sophie ok?”, asked Peter.
“Im not sure, but I was on my way to find out.”
They walked outside to the printing shop where they found Sophie working with the print.
“Are you ok?” asked Peter.
“Oui, im fine.” she said withouth even glancing at them.
“Then why did you walk away back there?”Creighton asked.
“Because..”she hesitated.
“Because.. I don’t want you going back to England. I want you to stay here.”
“By the way thigns are, my father and I were planning on staying here.Although we need a place to live,and..” he was cut off by Sophie.
“You can stay here at Franklin’s house! We can also continue running the print shop!”
“That’d be nice,” he said with a smile.
She ran up to him and gave him a hug. In his ear,she whispered,
“Welcome back to your new home!”
(Super Extra really unknown chapter recently dicovered by the author)
Extra Chapter 1- PROLOUGE- A year has passed since the beginning of this horrible war. The americans are now close to winning. All they need is to capture the british fort of Mobile and Pensacola. The americans received a new ally, Leuitenant Hale and a number of British soldiers and ships. As the final day to attack the forts approaches, we see Cregithon pacing in his room.
“Creighton, Creighton where are you.” Sofie, the french housekeeper and owner of the printshop was yelling his name as hes was coming out of his room. “Here I am, what is it” replied Creighton. It’s your father he has important news to tell you. Said sofie. Creighton rushed down the stairs and to his father’s chambers where he was waiting. ” CReighton, come on in my boy.” As cregithton entered the room he noticed his father writing a letter. “Father, who are you writing the letter to.” To your friend Peter and Leuitenant Hale.Can you please deliver this letter. I am also enclosing an attack manuever to them so be extra careful when delivering them. Also when you comeback, can you please by some tea? I think we ran out of it. “OK father” When Creightion arrives to the Headquarters to where Peter and Hale are, he sees a prisoner chained to a chair. Hello Peter, Hale. how are you. My father delivered this letter for you. “why hello Creighton” said Peter. Thank you for getting this letter to us. Now we can attack the Forts Tomorrow at sunrise. Hale sent us intresting information that the British are moving to pensacola so we can surprise attack them. Wow, now we can end this, finally. “whos thye man here” asked Creighton curiosly “He’s also a patriot sympathizer whom we recently discovered, that is why hes chained up. Oh… I see. well I need to pick up a few groceries and supplies so we can attack tomorrow. See you this evening. At 4:00 pm preciseley when Cregihton is about to enter the house, he sees a strange sight, 2 men arguing with a woman. He gets closer and sees that the 2 people are Hale and Peter. Weird, cregiton thinks to himself. But, as he approaches he finds that the 3rd body is someone whom he rarely seen when he came to this place. It was his mother.

period 3.
that’s alot of writing emma.
(:
In my alternate ending, Creighton found out that the Rebels won the attack, Benedict Arnold was alive and complete with all his body parts. The victory led the officials to plan another attack so that they would be on their way to freedom and independence. Creighton felt that he should fight for the American side because he feels he owes his loyalty to them. Even though he was born British, he can see clearly which side deserves to win.
Creighton and Peter go off and say their goodbyes to Sophie and Harry Brown. Creighton’s father isn’t strong enough to fight in the war even though he would be honored to do it. Another revolution has started. The days of the war were hard, but the people knew the sacrifice was worth it for their independence. While the other characters were away at war, Sophie and Harry Brown ran the printing press to provide information and entertainment to the people.
Meanwhile, Creighton thought of all the changes he has been through- no longer a boy who thinks only of himself, but a man who can say he ‘has experience’. He reflected on the life-changing people he is grateful for like, Peter- a giant with a big heart who he became close friends with; and of course, Sophie- the girl with the guts who captured his interest. Sophie was one of those girls that would never bore him and while there’s downtime in the war, he catches himself thinking about her- remembering how she talks and the little actions that sent his heart beating fast. Creighton knew Sophie was the girl for him. He would tell her all of that when he gets back. He also thought of his father, praying he would get better so they could catch up on the times they missed while he was in prison.
After 6 years of violent battles, the United States of America were finally liberated and the British were defeated. Creighton and Peter survived the war while Benedict Arnold lost his life by a gunshot. The reunion of Creighton, Sophie, Peter, and Harry Brown was a tear-filled moment. Creighton set aside Sophie and finally told her how he feelt. Years later, Sophie and Creighton get married and have two children. Harry Brown is still living and is a grandfather, the children call Peter “Uncle” Peter, and every year, they hold a memorial for Benedict Arnold, honoring his bravery in the battlefields. In the end, they all live peacefully in Dr. Franklin’s house where everything started and where it shall end.
Betrayed
*Note: This takes place just before they enter the cell at St. Mark’s Number Four.
*Note II: I also tried to make this as real as possible, forgive me if I did it poorly.
The dimly lit hallway and thick, humid air were enough to make Creighton’s anxiety shoot through the roof. General Arnold seemed calm and composed, but he too, was nervous, which was made obvious by his sweating palms. The guard turned the key in the lock, eyeing the two supposed Governor’s messengers suspiciously, and finally a light click sounded and the wooden door opened a crack. Creighton’s nerves soared and he took a sharp intake of breath.
This could be Washington.
The guard opened the door fully, revealing the entirety of the stone chambers that lay within. A cold, unkempt barrack was pushed against the east wall, next to it being a small lantern. On the west wall was a hole for waste elimination and in the middle was a high window – barred, so that the fort could not be penetrated internally or by outside forces.
But, throughout his observation of the room, Creighton could see no man. Just a barren, desolate cell.
“Where’s Washington?” growled Arnold aggressively. A malicious smile slowly spread across the young man’s face.
“I’ll show you.” He led them silently – yet with a spring in his step – to the center of the fort where a grassy courtyard resided. A large gallows had been erected, and dangling from the noose was a man.
He was of average height, with a powder white wig and the blue military uniform of the patriots. A boot had fallen from his left foot, on closer inspection, and his eyes – which were still wide open – had rolled to the back of his head. His tongue hung out slightly, and now there was no doubt that he was dead,
And there was no doubt that he was George Washington.
“WASHINGTON!” Arnold cried out in horror. He had forgotten about remaining cool and collected and for once allowed his emotions to dictate his behavior. He ran to Washington and pulled on his legs, seeming to forget the procedure fir removing a corpse from the rope. The sickening cracks from what little was left intact of George Washington’s skeletal system woke him from his emotional trance, however, and he immediately pounced on the pompous guard. A knife he pulled out of his garments was pressing on the guard’s trachea.
“What happened?”
The guard smirked at him. “What do you think happened?”
Around, tired of his foolishness, pushed the knife closer to the man’s throat, eliciting a gasp from him. Creighton couldn’t stand to watch as Arnold dug the knife deeper into his neck, making sure to deny him the pleasure and necessity of oxygen entering his windpipe. Finally, when Arnold was satisfied that this man’s existence was no longer, he got up – purposely leaving the knife in his throat. Arnold quickly composed himself, acting like nothing had just transpired.
“We should go; we can’t risk getting caught.” Creighton’s voice was hoarse from the lack of water he’d been receiving as of late. He couldn’t wait to get back to New Orleans.
“Of course,” Arnold replied distantly. He nonchalantly walked over to the gallows, standing on the raised platform, and skillfully untied the knot that held his neck and the rope in place. Creighton made it his job to catch the limp man in his strong arms. He looked down at the dead man resting eternally, wondering. He saw everything about him – his blue and purple complexion from asphyxiation while being hanged, his skinny form from the emaciation in the prison, and the manner in which he was dressed – the Patriot military garb, powder wig, and polished new boots – all to taunt him. Had he really enjoyed watching this happen to good people?
“We must hurry.” Creighton nodded absently and followed Arnold into the fort and out into the night.

10 Years Later
Creighton, Sophie, Peter, and Harry Brown stood by the two side-by-side graves in the war cemetery. In the last ten years, many things had happened. Creighton and Sophie had gotten married and now they were expecting their first child, who was due within the next two months. Harry had stayed with the couple in Benjamin Franklin’s house, along with Peter, and both helped them run the printing press and print The Liberty Tree although liberty had already been received. After much negotiation, the Patriots took Dr. Franklin’s advice and bargained for their freedom, which worked successfully. Unfortunately, until such an armistice could be agreed upon, Arnold had been a casualty and requested in a will to be buried next to Washington – the two best generals the Patriots had ever seen.
And now? They were living life.

Introduction
My story is based on a month of after the events of The Year of the Hangman ended. In this story Bennedict Arnold difection results in him turning in Creighton and Henry Brown for treason to Great Britain. Also a month later America fought for its freedom , and won . Which then results in George Washington being alive and escaping British prison. The British government is now frustrated and confused. Due to the war damages, Britain is now in economic ruin. My story continues from the judgement of Creigton and his father.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The judge decides that Creighton and his father should be hanged. Creighton accepts. He has one month until his hanging should occur.His father has a different fate. Henry Brown has a torture sentence.( interrogation and then death). Henry Brown decides not to leak any information and then commits suicide. Creighton angerd by his fathers death decides to sail to America to avoid his hanging. After a day preparation he books a ship to America. Suspicously, he notices that a person is following him. The mysterious person goes on the same ship as Creigton. Creighton pulls out a dagger and interrogates this person. Creigton asks if he is working for the British government. The mysterious person declines. Creighton unsheath his daggger in its scabbard. The mysterious person happens to be Peter. Creighton is shocked by this news and gives a handshake to Peter. For the whole drive to America creighton have normal disscussions. The ship ports in New Orleans. Where Sophie is waiting for Peter and Creighton. Sophie guides them into the shop of Old Ben. Creighton notices Benjamin’s gravestone in a graveyard and gets witherd flowers on Benjamins grave. Creighton replies by saying “Why did he have to save those types.” Sophie comes in and says that the types were invisble eyes to the patriots.Creighton sheds a tear and leaves thegrave. But then happens to notice Uncle Hugh’s grave. Creighton gains a countenance of a questioned face but dosent want the answer for his death. After months of Creighton hiding out in the print shop and delaying his hang he becomes a very wanted man with a bounty of nine-thousand shillings.
This results in more bounty hunters in the same area and more red coats. Creighton decides to wield a musket and a pistol for defending himself. Peter is always with Creighton backing him up. Also the King of Britain was assasined and results in an archduke ruling Britain. Angerd, it results in a new age of tyranny of Britain and a weird war with Spain, and France. More troops go now into America so that America decides to join Britains side. Breaking neutrality. But that dosent work. An angerd Brish soldier notices Creighton in the harbor of New Orleans. The soldier pulls out a wanted poster and acts by sneakingly going up to Creighton. Cautiously, the soldier gets out a cloth with a cyanide liquid which takes out anyone that inhales it. The soldier manages to get the cloth on Creighton and turns him into the British elites. Creighton wakes up and finds himself near a hanging post attaches to the main support. The Britrish soldiers tell him to walk the plank and into the rope. The noose is on Creightons head. Creighton looks in to the crowd to find Peter heavilly drinking ale and Sophie crying. The British elite says “Any last words?” Creighton answers yes and replies with a speech. For many centuries our fore fathers have fought each other . Why can’t we coexist with each other? Its because if there are men then there will always be a war. The British elite says “Thats enough!” and pulls the trigger that results in Creighton hanging from the rope. Everyone leaves while Peter passes out from the ale, and Sophie is hysterically crying. Creighton’s voice comes in and says” But at least humans can try to prevent people with power to rage in and go into war.”
Period 4
After Creighton finished putting the cards away, he sat down on the bed to talk to his father. “Dad,” Creighton began, “I have this feeling that Franklin isn’t truly dead.” “I know you miss him son, but his heart did stop beating. He is dead no matter how much you miss him.” ” Can we just go look for him in the printing shop tomorrow? I have a very strong feeling that he’s still there.” The next morning Creighton and his father went to the burnt down printing shop in search of someone known to be dead. As they bent to look in the rubble, Creighton saw a shadow from behind. He glanced up and saw the familiar face of Franklin. “You’re alive. I knew it! I knew you wouldn’t just die so easily!” Creighton exclaimed. They all went home and then had a cup of some english tea.
hey mr moshe, sadie and alexandra were working together and they said that it was ok because they asked you, so daniella and i worked together too. if this is a problem please tell me. =]
3 weeks later. . . Creighton wakes up in a room on a quite large ship. He gets up dazed, and opens the door. As he stumbles down the hallway, Peter comes up to him.
“Creighton! Hey, how’ya doing?”
“Eh. Okay. Where are we anyway?
“We’re on our way to Bristol, Creighton.”
Bristol. Back to the place where Charlotte Brown sent her son away. To the place where people were frozen in time.
“Creighton!!!”, Sophie exclaims as she runs towards Creighton. She runs into him and hugs him with all her might.
“Hello So- Sophie? What are you coming to Bristol for?”
“I’m going to visit.”
“But why?!”, Creighton says with astonishment.
“To see what your people are like.”
“HEY! Keep it down! I’m trying to steer here!”, a voice exclaims.
No. It couldn’t be, could it?
“Arnold?”
What, wha- Creighton my man! You’re awake!”
“How did you- Where did- How?”
“Yes, I’m indeed missing a leg.”
“Wow.”
“Yep. Nice to see you Creighton.”
“Yeah, You too.”
As Creighton walks away, he tries to rub away the haze that still lingered in his eyes. He goes into his room and closes the door. As he lays down on the bed, a slow knock sounds on the door.
“Yes?”, Creighton says annoyed.
Harry Brown walks through the door.
“Oh. Hello father.”
“You Okay?’
“Yeah, just tired.”
“Oh. I’ll leave you then.”, Harry Brown shuts the door. Creighton leans back exhausted. When Creighton starts drifting asleep, a sudden BOOM sounded off the walls. The boat shook severely. Creighton walks back to the captains quarters and sees Arnold.
“We got hit by a stray torpedo!” Arnold said.
“What? Whose?”
“I don’t know, but I think there’s another one coming.”
“Wha-”
BOOM! The boat shook again but the echo was brokem by a scream. Sophie.
“Arnold. . . ”
“Go find her!”
Creighton dashed through the door.
“SOPHIE?”
No reply.
“SOOOPHIE!!!!”
Peter walked out of his room.
“What happened? Why are you calling- SOOOPHIE!!”
“Shhhh! Do you hear that?”,Creighton asked.
A soft whimper was heard. Creighton ran to the end of the hallway.
“Sophie?”
“Oui, over here.”
Sophie was sitting on the floor with minor cuts and bruises. The room was blown apart. Debris was everywhere. Creighton infuriated by the scare she gave him, he scolds:
“Sophie! Why did you scream like that?!”
“Well what would you expect if debris was flying towards you?”
“Well you didn’t have to shreik like you were dying!”
“Creighton… GO AWAY!”
Creighton stomps away angrily.
As Creighton mumbles to himself, He accidentally runs into Arnold.
“Oh. Sorry”, Creighton said.
“Sophie okay?”
“Yes.”
“You don’t seem too pleased”
“No, It’s nothing.”
“You’re lying”,Arnold accuses.
“Shut up.”
Creighton leaves Arnold standing in the hallway. He goes into his room and locks the door. “Stupid girl” Creighton says to himself just before he falls asleep.
**********
“Hey we’re here.”
Creighton opens his eyes and sees that nobody is there. He remembers the door is locked and opens it.
” You ready?” Harry Brown asks.
“Yeah, in a minute.”
A few hours later they exit the ship. Creighton turns to his father and his father says:
“Time to go home.”
**********
2 weeks later. . . “Your mother is really nice.”, Sophie says standing next to Creighton.
“Yeah, I guess.”
“Oh, wow!” Sophie exclaims! “Look at the sunset”
“Yeah it’s beautiful. Just like you.” Creighton replies smiling.
As she leans in for a kiss, a yell is heard.
“CREIGHTONN!!!”
They turn around and see Arnold running across the field towards them. As Sophie turns to walk towards Arnold, Creighton grabs her arm and kisses her.
“AWW man! I’ll see you later then” Arnold shouts at them.
Creighton and Sophie laugh and walk towards home.
The Year of the Hangman 2 : The Print Shop
—————————————————————————-
Introduction
It was a nice sunny day, in the month of June. Creighton was not in a boat, or overlooking the sea. Rather, in his own printing shop that he had established. The day that he had read Dr. Franklin’s journal entry he decided that he should write about the real issues of the world rather then writing about the war.
—————————————————————————-
Chapter 1
Now this is a flashback to when Creighton decided to actually have his own printing shop…
As Creighton was walking along the main street of the town, he had noticed an empty shop. Now this was your usual for sale sign outside the door, but, something seemed very special about this particular shop. It was a small, but quite a big shop for a person like Creighton to own. He wrote down the number on the for sale sign and was on his way. The very next day he had called the number and a man had answered the phone. His name was Mr. Stevenson, or at least that’s what he told Creighton. Creighton had said,” Is this the owner of the shop on Main Street?” the man replied, ” Why yes it is, how do you do?” “Very well thank you, I would like to make an offer for your shop.” “Alright “, said the man. ” I would like to offer $5,000 dollars.” “Well, I suppose that’s a grand offer! Come by the shop today at 2:00. Pay the price, and the shop is yours.” said the man. “Well alright, I’ll see you there. Oh wait! I didn’t catch your name.” said Creighton. And in a happily voice the man replied saying, ” Mr. Stevenson”, and hung up the phone. Creighton thought to himself that that was fairly easy. Creighton looked at his watch and saw that it was 12:30, he decided he had enough time to go to the bank, and was on his way. Creighton arrived at the bank, took the $5,000 dollars out of his account, and by this time it was 1:12. The shop wasn’t too far away, so Creighton decided to be on his way and besides, it was good to be early, it made you look professional. After walking for about three blocks it was 1:35 and the man, Mr. Stevenson, was there and had a big smile on his face. To make sure this guy was actually Mr. Stevenson, Creighton spoke up and asked his name. He said, ” Mr. Stevenson”, so he approved. Mr. Stevenson was a professional dressed guy and looked very much like someone he once knew. However, Creighton couldn’t recall who Mr. Stevenson had looked like. Finally, Mr. Stevenson said, ” I suppose you would like to see the inside of the shop.” “Why yes I do.” replied Creighton. Mr. Stevenson opened the door with a golden key and before they knew it they were inside.
-Response to Aleeyah- Ooooh! So much suspense building! 🙂
Okay, seriously:
THE FINAL CHAPTER
The spray of ocean water hit Creighton’s skin like thousands of tiny daggars, making him wish that he was back in New Orleans amongst all the wretched mosquitoes.
The boy was flung back several feet as the boat tilted up, up, up… And then came crashing down, throwing him down onto his knees. For a small moment, the sea was calm, and Creighton realized that his father, Harry Brown, had taken this opportunity to walk towards his son. Strong hands grasped Creighton’s shoulders and pulled him back onto his feet.
Harry had come a long way in two weeks, Creighton observed. His sturdy frame, not long ago covered by only a thin layer of skin, was filled out with solid muscles. Also, his eyes had regained the warm light that Creighton had remembered as a child. Yes, it seemed as if Harry Brown was finally back, the familiar, beloved father that had magically returned.
And yet, Creighton couldn’t help but feel as if there was something odd going on concerning his father. Just yesterday Harry announced that he was taking Creighton along with him to England. At first, Creighton and Sophie had just figured that this was another of Harry’s jokes, but soon it was apparent that he was totally serious. Also, Creighton had been noticing for quite awhile that his father’s attention wasn’t always on him during conversation, and at times Harry seemed to be lost in his own thoughts.
Was he going to start a rally? No, Creighton knew that his father would never think of letting his son fight, not since he’d been shot in the leg at a Brittish fort. So why, then, was his father taking him to enemy territory, where Harry was thought to be dead for years?
“How are you faring?” Harry Brown had to yell to be heard over the angry water.
“I lost my stomach just a bit ago, but other than that I’m just fine.” Creighton saw his father laugh, but the sound was literally drowned out by a wave that came up over the side of the boat and collapsed on top of them at that very instant.
Once on shore, Harry and his son walked up a cobbled street to a familiar alley. Creighton recognized right away where they were going.
“Are you insane?” Creighton stopped, and Harry looked back at him, surprised.
“What do you mean, son?”
“What do I mean! I mean that we’re going back to our old home, the one that you left during the war – the war you died in, remember? – and the home that I was stolen from!” Creighton spat angrily on the ground. “What are you thinking? Has malaria robbed you of all your brains?”
Creighton’s father took a few steps toward him, with a look on his face that made Creighton think he was going to strike him. His father did no such thing, however.
“Look,” Harry said, putting his large hands on his son’s shoulders. “I just… Need to check on something, alright?” He sighed. “You wouldn’t understand.” He then started to proceed up the alley. Still fuming, Creighton had no choice but to follow him.
Once on the doorstep of their old home, Harry smiled. This enraged Creighton further. Not so much the fact that they were back at his hated home, but because his father was acting so strange and distant. What could possibly be important enough to bring them back to England? So far, they hadn’t run into anyone who recognized them, but Creighton knew that it was only a matter of time. It was then that he heard the baby cry.
Creighton was caught off guard, and at first thought that they must be at the wrong house. He looked up at his father, who had moved over to the front window and was peering in with an unreadable expression on his face. Creighton inched over to join his father, and gasped in surprise.
In his old living room stood a grand craddle. It was crafted of a high quality wood, and the decor on it was a shiny brass. Standing over it was his mother, in a beautiful new dress, one that she could never of afforded the widowed state Creighton had last seen her in. And, positioned next to her was an unfamiliar gentleman.
The man was obviously not chosen for his looks. His nose hooked out several inches from his face, and his eyes were hidden behind a forest of thick eyebrows. But on his face was a look of pride, and Creighton knew that his mother was a widow no longer.
Creighton stumbled back from the window, dazed. He saw his father turn and walk away from him, back in the direction of the shipyard. Was this what Harry had come for? To show Creighton that his mother had moved on, no longer cared for him? Once again, Creighton followed his father blindly.
Walking back to the ship, Harry stifly said “So now we know.”
Suddenly, Creighton realized what Harry had been thinking about for all those weeks. The question he would never had had answered if he had died, alone in that cell. Creighton had rescued him from seclusion, and now he had helped rescue him from a loneliness greater than Creighton could understand for the time being. *
The semi-final-epilogue-omg exciting-thrilling(take a breath) year of the hangman ending!!
20 YEARS LATER…
“Sophie, I’m heading over to the print shop.” Creighton said hugging his wife. “Bye.” He went out the door.
***
The print shop had taken 3 years to rebuild after the fire which killed Benjamin Franklin. And since then, the business has been flowing very well. It was now full of more workers and of course a fire extinguisher handy. Creighton, now i his thirtys’ had alot of responsibilites. Such as his wife and two kids; Addan his son and Jesse his daughter. He was very close with his family indeed. His mother and father lived about four blocks away.
“Creighton, Sophie is on line one.” His assistant Mina said.
“Thank you, Mina.” he said.
“Yeah.” she replied.
He picked up the phone.
“Hey Sophie.” he said into the phone.
“Bonjour, um Addan wants to come by and help with the shop.
“Okay now problem. Send him.” he said.
“Oui, but Jesse has some erronds to run with me. So we’ll see you guys around eight.” she replied with a smile.
“Obvou.”
“Bye.”
***
Addan walked into the print shop calmly. For he loved to help his father.
“Hey dad.”
“Bonjour, Addan.” he said waving.
“How may I help today?”
“Oui, by sorting out those types in the file cabinets. They fot messed up because of Mina.”
He nodded and got to work. His father always challenged him. But, Addan liked a little challenge too.
There were alot of types. But, most were sorted out within an hour. Creighton walked into the room.
“Hey are you done yet?” he asked his son.
“Yes, just one more file folder.”
“Okay, well its 7:50 so I’m leaving. Lock up and I’ll meet you at home in time for dinner. Hurry.” he said putting the keys on the table next to him.
***
Addan was finished within 20 minuestes. It took him 5 minuestes to reach his block. He looked up at the sky. It began to drizzle. He ran up the stairs to his house door. Thus, he felt a sock being put in his mouth and a sock in his mouth. He squiremed and tried to scream. Nothing. He was thrusted into a van and driven off into the rainy night…
Look out for the sequel…
Will Creighton find his son?
Will Sophie surivive the storm?
Where is Jesse?
