THE WAR TIME EXPRESS (12/3/1980)
THE BLOODY,BLOODY AZOREANS!!!
the damp, frozen streets of london were striped of it’s normal well abouts. you no longer hear the pitter, patter of the lodoners feet against the wet pavment. Nor the loud music and sounds of the drunk & happy from the local pub, filling the streets. Lodon is a pityful place to be at night. For all you will hear is the pasting of the wacthman, and the holws of the wind ,along then you will hear the neglected cries of the harbor. the fear of the privateeers has taken away the lives of the lodoners.
for we londoners pcked a fight we could not handle. working alongside spain the azoreans are stricking back.we had sent the lieutenant out with his crew ,to call peace. but while are men were at sea( close enough to see the golden redish, orange of the coral) they were attacked. the privateers took over our vessele in no time at all. they would use are planks like the gallowsof the hangman, and make are men walk them.they attacked from the gun whales, the crow’s nest. they atacked from left, right and center, top and bottom. All this was herd from the only surrvior(who was found on the dilapidated remaider of the boat that driftedback to the wharf) found by on of london most turst worthy boat swains.
this could mean only on thing, “WAR”, to the end.

Nice Work Daniel!!
Daniel S
Gales of wind rocked the gunwale roughly. It had been harsh long night as the crew members worked never endingly throughout the night to keep water out of the vessel. They could see the worried looked on the lieutenant’s face. He knew that they would never reenlist, especially after that night.
It took him a while to realize but when one of his crew members came and said “Aren’t we supposed to be there now?” He began to panic. He went up to the watchman and snatched his telescope. He searched around frantically but he could not see a harbor anywhere.
The lieutenant returned the telescope to the bewildered watchman and went back down to the deck. As the lieutenant paced back and forth the watchman screamed, “Yay! I see the harbor!” The lieutenant flew up to him, took the telescope and saw that three other boats were harbored there also.
Unfortunately their troubles were not over yet. They were so excited that they did not see the coral reef. They headed right into the reef and severely damage the boat’s hull. The boat took on water immediately and sunk. No one was able to escape. The lieutenant and his entire crew drowned and died.
Words used: Lieutenant, Crow’s nest, harbor, helm, General, privateer, gangway, gallows, hull, lout, larboard, vessel
The Lieutenant beathed deeply into that refreshing salty air only smelt in the morn’ before sunrise. Up in the Crow’s nest a shout from the watchman of approaching land was heard. The Lieutenant chuckled to himself as the harbor peaked just into sight from the helm. It would not be long now that that colonist General who had dared to attack his very own privateer and force many of his men off the gangway mere hours ago would recieve his final judgement. Perhaps he would even face the gallows. And then there were the rewards that would surely follow with such a capture. It brought a slight wimsy to the Liutenant’s face just thinking about this. Suddenly, however, a gunfire was heard and seconds later, an explosion went off. A cracking sound followed and soon the entire hull began to lift from the the waters! The bloody lout had fired the cannon directly into the larboard of the ship! The peer may have been visible, but it was still hours off. All hell broke loose among the ship. Several of the soliders went out looking for the dirty rat who’d caused this. While the less experienced members of the ship fell into extreme panic, fearing what would become of them. The liuetenant looked for any possible escape boats, but even the backup rowboat had been damaged from the earlier fight. How did the man intend to live? Then it dawned on the Lieutenant and the world went silent. The General was soon captured, and as he was forced back into the birge, before causing further damage to the vessel, the Lieutenant couldn’t help but salute him. Clearly, he had won.
These are the words I used:
*General *Lieutenant *Vessel
*Gale *Watchman *Crow’s Nest
*Harbor *Boatswain *Gallow’s
*Louts
It was October friday the 13. I hadn’t gone to school that day because I was at home sick with the chicken pox. My mom and dad (the LIEUTENANT and GENERAL of the titanic) where going to go on a test drive of the humungous VESSEL for a month, so I had to stay with my grandma who was coming to pick me up after they left. But this day was not very pleasant for sailing since the wind was very GALE. But instead of focusing on the weather my parents were thinking of the agony they would have to go through listening to the WATCHMAN up in his CROW’S NEST complaining about the weather. Anyway we said goodbye and the vessel set sail. As the vessel was leaving the HARBOR I noticed the BOATSWAIN was having a bit of a problem getting the anchor all the way up, but in a matter of seconds the whole crew managed to bring it all the way up.Well the vessel was way out of my sight now and my grandma was no where to be seen. Since my grandma didn’t show up I decided to walk back to my house and wait for her there. But as I was walking there I saw a bunch of people walking towards a GALLOW. Since my curiosity got the best of me, I followed them. And as I got closer I saw a LOUT getting ready to be hung, and right beside him was a buff man dressed all in black holding a rope; and right before the action started… a hand popped out and yanked me away!
DUM! DUM! DUUUUUUUMMMMMM!
Once upon a time there was this very pretty girl who always waited in the HARBOR for ships to come, and one day she saw this handsome LIEUTENANT and she would go every day from that day on to the harbor to wait for him and one day the WATCHMAN saw her from the CROWS NEST and went to tell the GENERAL. The general went to tell the lieutenant and he went to see who was the girl and as soon as he saw her he fell in love with her and he gave her a necklace made out of CORALS he told the BOATSWAIN to go and clean everything from the HULL to the bathrooms cause he wanted to take the girl on a trip on the VESSEL and told all his PRIVATEERS to leave them alone and when they got back they got married and lived happily ever after!!!

words for my story:
watchman hull
harbor boatswain
lieutenant crow’s nest
general gale
vessel gallows
This weekend my family had bought a VESSEL form ebay. This ship was huge the HULL across was 156 feet. It also has two GALLOWS.It was so big we couldn’t leave it behind our house we had to leave it at the HARBOR in Miami. It had a giant sail with a CROW’S NEST we even hired WATCHMAN to sit up there. We also hired a LIEUTENANT, BOATSWAIN, and a GENERAL to run the ship. When we took it out the was only a GALE so we had a great time
The words that I chose were: harbor, gallows, crow’s nest, lieutenant, watchman, gangway, helm, privateer, coral, and wharf.
Once there was a girl sitting down by the harbor waiting for her father that was on duty as a watchman. He was on a ship with Lieutenant Wheeler, a longtime family friend. The ship was supposed to return the day before yesterday but it has been delayed. A man from the crow’s nest of a nearby ship, looked down at her and came down the rope ladder and then the gangway to talk with her. “You didn’t hear the news, did you?” he asked solemnly. “What are you talking about?” the little girl asked, confused. ” Your father and the rest of the crew was sent to the gallows by a privateer. I’m sorry,” the man said, patting her on the shoulder and walking back onto the ship and up to the helm. So on that sunny, cloudless day, the daughter of a dead watchman morned his death by the coral reef and the wharf.
The Words I Chose were: General, Hull, Crow’s nest, Vessel, Gallows, Coral, Gunwales, Helm, Privateer, Scaffold.
General Watson Hopkins was the first to board the ship that he soon would be piloting. He went into his captain’s office and made the all aboard annoucement. The passengers skedaadled there way aboard and the crew made sure no one was left behind. When I first steped on the colassal ship i immediately noticed the crow’s nest way up high. The crew member up in it waved as the passengers below went by him.We were finally off. The captain would have to helm us to Florida. The ride was going good, we had not hit any coral pacthes and I was not yet sea sick. Then out of the clear blue there was a big thump. I went out my room and what I saw astonished me. A Privateer was ride beide us. It’s cannons started to fire and it destroyed not only the gunwales, but the whole vessels as well. It bwas destroying the hull of our ship. The crow’s nest was fallen over in a way that sort of resembled a gallow. The ship was in deep trouble. We had to do something. Some man climbed on top of a scaffold and tried booming some cannons,b ut they were quickly blown to pieces. What could we do? Then the U.S. coast guards showed up nd helped us defeat the privateer. We were helped aboard another ship, well the few who made it and then steered to our destination. It was an unforgetable trip that almost cost me my life.
Dear Diary,
This year our VESSEL has been completely remodled- a freshly painted HULL, revised name, and best of all a new job! GENERAL Smith and LIEUTENENT Wallace decided I would be better off located in the CROW’S NEST as the WATCHMAN rather than controlling the HELM. They say that our ship needs extra security to watch out for PRIVATEERS trying to capture our boat. If I make one mistake, I will be sent to the GALLOWS. We are set to leave the HARBOR tomorrow, however weather forecasters are predicting a strong GALE winds.

This is my story with 10 nautical vocabulary words.
The vocab words are: watchman, crow’s nest, gale, coral, vessel, general, privateer, harbor, helm, and wharf.
As the watchman walked to the crow’s nest he felt a strong, chilly, bone tingling gale. Loking at the vast coral bottom ocean behind and then looking up, he spied another vessel heading their way. The watchman ran down to inform the general.
“As long as it’s not a privateer, we’re safe” he stated. “We’re about to reach the harbor and there’s no way they can possibly catch up. Just a sharp turn on the helm when it’s time and we will reach our destination.” the watchman told the general. “Are you telling me how to steer my boat and what to do now? Back into your position and don’t come down untill you see the wharf where we planned to unload our items.” the general steernly said while choking on the last word…

“Get up,get up!”The general’s voice rang throughout the small cabin.”I’ve finished wiping the deck,”A boy in the bunk next to me mumbled sleepily.”Get up!”A cold hand seized my ear and dragged me out of my bed.I was instantly awake.”Get dressed!”the general grumbled,”And be at the harbor in no less then five minutes!”Everyone got up,but protested softly under their breath. In no time I was standing on the creaky planks of the harbor along with the dozen other boys that were on the crew of the Ambassador.I shivered, trying to shield myself from the bone chilling gale. The General soon came, joined by Lieutenant
James, and everybody quickly lined up,side by side.We are here on a very important mission,”Lieutenant James said.”We recieved word from one of the watchman that a young prisoner had escaped from the jails.Evading the watchman’s eye,but not entirely, the prisoner stole to the wharfs and stole a small vessel, and is out somewhere in that vast blue ocean. We do not know how this could have happened, but that is not important. The main priority is to capture the escaped prisoner and bring her back before word gets out.Am I understood?” Silence. “Alright,”The general said.”Onto the boat, onto the boat.Work fast now,ya lazy louts!”We all scurried onto the Ambassador quickly,as to aviod punishment.Working the ropes and letting loose the sails, the ship was soon on it’s way,and the General stood with Lieutenant James, smiling in satisfaction.”The prisoner has been spotted,”the lad from the crow’s nest called, not long later.Like everyone else,I ran to the stern of the ship and I saw someone rowing in a small vessel ahead, face wide with fear.A girl. The escaped prisoner was a girl?I approached Lieutenant James.”Sir,what will happen to the prisoner when she is taken back?”The Lieutenant looked surprised.”I thought it was obvious. She will be sent to the gallows,of course.” I recieved this news with what I hoped was a calm expression. And looked out at the small boat again.Just a girl.I wondered what she had done to get into jail in the first place. My thoughts were dispersed by a loud scrapping sound, and a tremor ran throughout the ship.We slowed to a stop.”Sir,bad news,”The lad from the crow’s nest cried again.”We’ve run aground. And from the looks of it,onto coral.” “Coral, out here?”The General demanded.”How could you be so careless? It is your job to look out for such things!” “I-I’m sorry sir,”the lad stammered.”It won’t happen again,I promise!” The General sighed and motioned for the boy to get on with buisness.”How bad is it,” the General asked Lieutenant James, who had just inspected the damage. “Not good,”Lieutenant James said grimly.”It can take hours to get moving again. And by then-” He did not need to continue.By then the prisoner would have be who knows where. As we stood, watching the girl row further and further away, and struggling to free the ship,a bubble of hope swelled inside me,and I prayed she would row to safety.

This is my story with the words.
The Lieutenant walked upon the deck and shouted out lets set sail. The crew set sail off the harbor. While they set sail you could see the coral from the ship. They have been gone for three days. The Boatswain told the captain that there might be enemy Privateer ahead. Then they could not see anything because the fog was blocking there vision. Then the watchman yield from the Crow’s nest incoming. Boom a cannon ball hit the bowsprit dead on. The captain shouted everyone on to the gunwale. All of the crew started to fire back by the time it was over the other ship was gone and at the bottom of the sea. When they got to there destination they tied up the boat next to the wharf. So that is the untold story about what disappears in the Bermuda Triangle.

Its been 28 days since we left the HARBOR, and 67 since I REENLISTED in the war against the states. The pays compensation is not nearly enough compared to the discomfort aboard. But no one has the nerve to say it to the cap’n. Our cap’n and GENERAL is Sir Peter Smithers, but the BOATSWAINS call him “Ugly Smith” well atleast not to his face. In fact no one even looks at his face, sailors would rather face the GALLOWS then have to look the man in the eye. From the sound of his peg leg scrap’n across the dirty floor any man can tell which part of the VESSEL the cap’n is creep’n over. Or when his only good eye is stari’n ya down it sends chills down a mans spine. A pirate they say he was, Ol’ Roger up in the CROWSNEST tells stories somtimes about how the general was a theiv’n pirate who is now gone good. “dont believe me says you!” is what Ol’ Roger yells before he starts laughin histerically, personally I believe the chap is a nutcase. Sent over from Lond’n he was, says he was a LIEUTENANT n’ used to sail on a PRIVATEER. Dont believe one word of it, I think he’s been paint’n the HULL a time to many I do.
