I completely agree with what you say. I thought it was a great idea to bring in a quote on quote example from chapter 5. I haven’t got that far but it sounds good.
Watson and Holmes have a friendship that seems like they need eachother in one way or another. For example, when Holmes basically told Watson in the beggining of the story how watson didn’t seem all that smart but he brings it out in other people (in other words “Holmes”. He is pretty much stating how he needs Watson to bring him ideas or even maybe insperation.
I believe Watson needs Holmes because it seems that Watson see’s to Sherlock as sort off a mentor or someone to look up to. Both Holmes and Watson need eachother in their myssterie. Especially now with the Hound of Baskerville” mystery.
The nature of Sherlock Holmes’ friendship with Dr.Watson is very important in the book because they need each other to help discover the mystery they trust each other alot even though Holmes may not completely show it .Holmes values Watsons opinion very high like from a 1-10 he would probably be a nine, I say he would be a nine not a ten because Holmes is mostly trusting himself and saying that “Watson may not be the smartest person in the world but he makes people smarter” so he is helping Holmes even though he may not be as smart as Holmes. Watson is important to Holmes because without Watson in the story Holmes would probably be working alone and since Watson Thinks differently Holmes could get ideas from him. Holmes is important to Watson because since Watson is not so smart he likes to rely on his buddy a lot
i agree with Dominique beacuse she said that Holmes was importan to Watson because Watson looks up to Holmes and i gree with that i also agree with the first paragraph she wrote
The nature of Holmes & Watson’s friendship is what you could call best friends but not particularly close just in a partnership workplace type of way. Holmes values Watson’s opinion dearly because different people have a different point of view and being that he is a detective he could use as many different views as possible. Like Holmes said in Chapter 1 “Really, Watson, you excel yourself,” said Holmes, pushing back
his chair and lighting a cigarette. “I am bound to say that in
all the accounts which you have been so good as to give of my own
small achievements you have habitually underrated your own
abilities. It may be that you are not yourself luminous, but you
are a conductor of light. Some people without possessing genius
have a remarkable power of stimulating it. I confess, my dear
fellow, that I am very much in your debt,” in this paragraph Holmes is telling Watson that he helps Holmes understand his own thoughts better and that he is grateful for it. Watson is important to Holmes for the same reason I just stated and that Watsons a companion, which everybody needs one. Holmes is important to Watson because without Holmes there is no need for Watson because Doyle would have never wrote the series or this book like our notes mentioned “…Doyle began a series for Strand magazine called ‘The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’.”
I agree with Gerardo R. because its true that Holmes is fond of Watson but I do not believe the example he choose is a good choose.
