Week Two – Question #1
The setting for this portion of the novel is the city of New Orleans. Since the devastation of Hurricane Katrina last fall there has been much discussion on the future of this important American city.
How do you feel about rebuilding the city of New Orleans? Do you think that the government should spend billions of dollars to rebuild the city of New Orleans and protect it from a future hurricane or should the citizens of New Orleans be asked to pick up and move somewhere else and the city not be rebuilt?
I feel as if the city of New Orleans should be rebuilt. Think about it, if you were in the same position as the people that previously lived there, then you would want to be able to return home, not just to find any belongings or anything, but New Orleans is home to numerous people. Some people find comfort in being home, and it’s the most that the president could do, because the president or whoever, spends billions and billions of dollars only on WAR. This money goes to weapons to kill our people instead of helping them. I feel as if, if you could spend that much money on war, then why can’t we take the time to rebuild their homes and get those hundreds and thousands of people out of the homeless shelters and out of the streets and make it fell like home again for them.
I think that they should ask the residents of New Orleans to move because if they rebuild it then the same thing might happen in a few years. Also studies show that the water level is increasing every year. If they are under the water level, one day, it will go back to flooding badly.
In my opinion, I think that the government should spent millions of dollars to rebuild New Orleans. The government knew that New Orleans was near the water and many hurricanes would hit there. So I think that the government shold rebuild it and try to be prepared if something like Hurrican Katrina would happened again.
I deffinatly think that the government should spend billions of dollars to rebuild New Orleans and protect it from future hurricanes because thats where people live. I know that I wouldnt want to have to move somewhere else because the government doesnt want to rebuild it. Also, some people have lived there for there whole life and they shouldnt have to move! They should be able to stay in that place if they choose to. The government should think how they would feel if the place they live got hit by a hurricane and if they would want it rebuilt. So yes, I think that New Orleans should deffinatly get rebuilt and protected from future hurricanes!
Question 1:
How do you feel about rebuilding the city of New Orleans? Do you think that the government should spend billions of dollars to rebuild the city of New Orleans and protect it from a future hurricane or should the citizens of New Orleans be asked to pick up and move somewhere else and the city not be rebuilt?
I feel that rebuilding the city of New Orleans is a great idea. I mean it is a major United States port city. It also is known for its multicultural heritage as well as its music (jazz). Why should their citizens move away from their homeland. That’s where they were born and raised. So no, the citizens have a right to stay. The government should most definately spend billions of dollars to prevent it from future hurricanes. I mean if the government would have repaired the city before hand this would have never happened. And not a soul would have to worry about this mess.
I THINK NEW ORLEANS SHOULD BE REBUILT NO MATTER THE COST BECAUSE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE GOT FORCED OUT OF THEIR HOME AND STILL MANY ARE HOMELESS. WOULD YOU WANT TO LIVE BACK IN THE PLACE WHERE YOU WERE? NEW ORLEANS WAS A VERY POPULAR TORIST ATTRACTION AND FOR IT TO BE JUST GONE IS VERY SAD. ESPECIALLY THE FACT THAT PEOPLE LOST FAMILY AND FRIENDS. THEY LOST THAT ALREADY THE LEAST YOU COULD DO IS BUILD BACK UP WHAT THEY ONCE HAD, EVEN IF IT ISNT THE SAME. THE COST HSOULDNT MATTER AT ALL.
OOPS! I SPELLED MARTI GRAS INSTEAD OF MARDI GRAS!
SORRY! MR. MOSHE I FORGOT TO PUT MY PERIOD1
I think that New Orleans should definitely be rebuilt! I mean seriously who would want to leave some where that they have been living for years? You can’t just go and tell some one to live some where else out of no where. Any ways the government would have to spend money to try to get the people housed since they obviously would need it. If you think about it how many of those people actually can afford to buy a new home. For most of them everything they had is gone. They have lost all of their money and it’s not like they would be able to sell their house.
Let’s not forget about Marti Gras where would they have it? Yea sure we could probably live with out having one of the biggest celebrations of the year in New Orleans but c’mon.
Also we already have a problem with our over populated population building on animals homes. If we were to tell the New Orleans residents that they have to go live some where else what do you think they would do? Go and live with all the cute little animals in the wild? Uhh no. they’re going to take down more forests and put more animals in danger.
We also need to think about the fact that there should not have been a problem in the first place. Someone in charge should have made sure the levies were secure in the first place.
This is a tough decion, but i dont think they should rebuild New Orleans because who says hurrican Katrina wont just happen all over again? And I feel soooooo much simpathy for the victoms of Katrina, Its just not fair what they had to be put through, but the city is already destoyed and its a very unsafe enviroment. I however dont think I can just tell a whole state of people to just packup and move, I guess if u are currently living in New Orleans, then you can stay and have your property fixed but rebuilding all of New Orleans would just be a waist, because i feel once we finish rebuilding, another disaster will strike. There is no stopping Mother Nature and theres no telling what she will do!
in my opinion the goverment should spend millions and billions and trillions of dollars to rebuild New Orleans because peole have spent thier whole lives there and its their home, and they shouldnt have to be kicked out of thier own home imean come on now use ur heart and brain.
I think that New Orleans should be rebuilt dispite the cost because If you lived there you wouldnt want to be forced out of your home town because of a natural disaster.
In my opinion I think that New Orleans should be rebuilt only in a safer area then in a bowl thta can easily be flooded and destroyed. The government should spend money on the people that have been taken from there home and put in a football field. If that was you, you would want your home and treasures to be put back where they were. New Orleans was a great city and will always have history and rememberace in all of us.
How do you feel about rebuilding the city of New Orleans? Do you think that the government should spend billions of dollars to rebuild the city of New Orleans and protect it from a future hurricane or should the citizens of New Orleans be asked to pick up and move somewhere else and the city not be rebuilt?
I believe we should rebuild the city of New Orleans because it has a great history. New Orleans was one of the biggest cities in mid 1700’s and was still a major city until the devastating hurrican Katrina. If south Florida was completely destructed (which it has been before) I would want the Government to pay billions of dollars to rebuild it. Just like this is my home, New Orleans was others homes. in my opinion asking to pick up and move would be even more devastating than the hurricane(unless lives were lost). If we try hard enough we can make New Orlean’s history even more interesting to the future generations.
i think new orleansshould be rebuilt because it is one of the best cities in all of america. all the people who lived there thought it was safe for a hurricane and the government should take some of there money and make better protection from the hurricanes of the future.
I stongly feel that the city of New Orleans should be rebuilt because the people that lived their already have lost so much (especially the ones that have lost their loved ones) , it would mean so much to them just to call their home, home again. I know that the expenses in trying to rebuild the city would be very high, but I think every bit of the money put towards it would be totally worth it.
I think that New Orleans shouldn’t be reconstructed. First of all the government would spend not millions but BILLIONS of dollars. While the money is used on reconstructing an important American city, that same money could be used for better things like education. Yet this decision would be hardest on those who lived in New Orleans. They had their special moments in that city. I think it should be better for them to move to a safer city than one that lies under sea level. Besides why would they U.S. risk having another disaster if they finish. Just drying it up would take years. Then would come the reconstruction of buildings. If one building takes at least 2 years to build, then imagine the time it would take to rebuild hundreds of buildings. Easily 5 years could pass and full reconstruction of New Orleans would’t be finished. If the U.S. does manage to reconstruct New Orleans, and with the higher activity of hurricanes, another hurricane like Katrina could happen. Then all those billions of dollars would have been used in vain.
I think that New Orleans should not be rebuilt. We can spend millions of dollars on something much more important, like poverty or something. What happens if we rebuild it, and then it just gets flooded again? We wasted all that money for nothing. We can spend it on something that we know will make a difference (and wont get flooded).
well in my own opinion….i think they should rebuild New Orleans because people who have lost alot from their homes and they deserve to stay in the town that they called home. Also, people have been donating alot to the Katrina society so the government wouldnt have to pay nearly as much as they would if no one donated. So speaking for the people who lost everything and family mebers due to Katrina, i think they should rebuild New Orleans and let them get on with their lives in their town.
i feel that New orleans will be a hard city to live in becuase thge people would have to pay more money to live there
I think they need to rebuild the city over again.
i feel that new orleans should be rebuilt because so many people live there! and they want to have beck there city and they dont want to move becasue maybe thats all they can afford, and they should deffinaltey rebuild because what if another one of these hurricanes just comes and distroys the city again! then it would be even worse! so i think its only fair to the people of new orleans that they rebulid the city again
I strongly agree that the city should be rebuilt. New Orleans was, is, and always will be an important part of this country. It is a place were jazz and celebration takes place among the people. Many people’s ancestors have lived there and their families have continued to live in the same place. This means that it is not just important to the whole country, but mostly to the people that actually live there. Since Katrina came, many people’s lives and homes have been severely damaged. They deserve the chance to continue to live were they and their whole ancestry has lived for many generations. No matter what the cost, the government is responsible for taking care of its people. Now adays, technology has improved greatly. Why then can they not make better protection for this city of much historical and cultural importance? Much information has been gained from all of the major hurricanes that have hit the country, like Andrew, Wilma, and Katrina. So now it’s up to the government to fulfill it’s duties and responsobilities and rebuild and modify this great American city with all the technology and knowledge humanly possible.
My perspective on should New Orleans be rebuilt or not be and the people move out is… New Orleans should be rebuilt because people don’t donate billions of dollars so you don’t rebuild, and yes, I do agree that people should move out for just right now; cause your health is way more important then your unstable home; they should move out to a family member’s home and the government should rebuild and take control of the oppurtunity while people are evacuated out of their homes, but also they should’nt just kick them out and expect them to find a new home in a month cause not every one is as fortunate as other people.
In my opinion the city of New Orleans should be rebuilt. It is the center of american history. There are many events that have happened there. And the annual events such as Mardi Gras, which has been taking place there for many years. The government should rebuild it and make it stonger and hurrican proof. Those leves should rebuilt and made double as high and double as strong. The people who live there shouldn’t have to move because the government is lazy they should take a little time to help this once great city.I bet if this war with Iraq wasn’t happening the money from the war would goto the hurricane relief, and to rebuild New Orleans.
I think that the city of New Orleans should not be rebuilt because if the government does rebuild the city they will be just wasting there time and money because hurricane katrina caused so much damage that it would take a long time and by that time another hurricane would come. For the people who live there its their risk living at that sea level and it wont be the last time New Orleans will be destroyed by a hurricane.
