TOPIC A – “Stand for something, or you’ll fall for anything.” – Anonymous. Creighton learns about many virtues, some of which are honor, loyalty, honesty, humility. This topic deals with honor and loyalty. In chapter 16, the narrator tells us:
“But now Creighton understood for the first time the truth of the matter: If loyalty really was the most worthy of virtues, then loyalty that was misplaced or misguided must be the most worthless.”
Ask yourself:
- What did Creighton’s father stand for? How can you take the lesson of what Creighton’s father died for and use it to grow?
- What is meant by Creighton’s realization about loyalty? How can you personally use the knowledge Creighton has gained?
- Do you stand for something that you (probably) shouldn’t? Do you stand for anything? How do poeple see what you stand for in your actions?
There are a lot of questions in this thread. Pick one to answer. No matter which one you pick, try to talk about yourself as much as possible.
TOPIC B – What is courage? Throughout the first three sections of the book, Creighton struggles to come to terms with the circumstances surrounding his father’s death. After the ransacking and burning of the print shop, General Arnold speaks to Creighton about courage:
“It’s a far more difficult thing to make up your own mind about what’s right and to act accordingly – to go against the demands of duty when it’s necessary, to take another path when you feel the one you’ve been led down is wrong. That requires real courage.”
Read one or more of the following articles: then post on the topic they present:

THEN post your thoughts on the topic as presented by the author. Do you agree with the author? Why or Why not?
TOPIC C – A free press. Enemies of the Patriots’ cause felt the need to destroy the place where The Liberty Tree newspaper was printed. In your response for discussion, please address the following questions:
- What do you think this says about the power of the press?
- Can you think of a recent example in which a newspaper became a powerful tool in waging war or impacting world politics?
TOPIC D – He’s a puzzle, a riddle, an enigma! A major character in this novel is Benedict Arnold – who could possibly be one of the most interesting individuals in American History. In real life he was a hero to the Patriots, and was later hated by those same soliders. Read a little about the life of Benedict Arnold at one of the websites below.Use the following links to find information on this hot topic:

Then return here to post some comments in response to the following questions:
- What did Benedict Arnold stand for to the Americans?
- What did Benedict Arnold stand for to the British?
TOPIC E – Right is right. Creighton makes a tough decision when he helps break his uncle out of jail. Try to put yourself in Creighton’s shoes.
- Would you have made the same choice?
- What other options did Creighton have, and what did he risk in making those decisions?
TOPIC F – A Duel! A duel becomes a major event in this portion of the novel. One of the most famous duels in American history tragically takes the life of Alexander Hamilton.Read more about the famous Burr-Hamilton duel that took place in 1804 at one of the links below. In your comment for this post, explain why you think that Burr actually shot and killed Hamilton.

#1The setting for this portion of the novel is the city of New Orleans. Since the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, there has been much discussion on the future of this important American city. How do you feel about rebuilding the city of New Orleans? Do you think that the federal government should spend billions of dollars to rebuild the city of New Orleans and protect it from future hurricanes, or should the citizens of New Orleans be asked to pick up and move somewhere else and the city not be rebuilt, or can you think of some other idea?
#2Sophie and Creighton are given a great deal of responsibility in Ben Franklin’s print shop as teenagers. In colonial America many teenagers around the age of 14 or 15 are doing work and taking responsibility for things that today are often associated with adults.Do you think that in American society today we wait too long to treat teenagers as adults? What would be some pros and cons of allowing teenagers in America to have the full rights and responsibilities of adults at the age of 15?
#3The code used by Ben Franklin was possible because it used a book that almost everyone in the colonies was able to access. If you were to write a similar code today, which book would you choose (remember that it should be a book almost everyone has access to or could access). Would you use a certain book if you were only trying to include a certain group of people? In your comment please list the book you would use and why you chose that book.
#4In this portion of the book you have been introduced to Ben Franklin. Ben Franklin was truly one of the most important men in colonial America. The amount of inventions and ideas directly associated with this man is incredible. Here’s what I want you to do:
Step #1 – Check out more about Ben Franklin using the links below.
Step #2 – Pick one of his ideas/inventions that directly impacted you somehow. Tell us the idea you are focused on – describe it briefly – then explain how your life has been directly impacted by it.
Here are the links:
- Ben Franklin – Inventor from the The Franklin Institute
- Franklin Firsts from ThinkQuest

- Ben Franklin – Inventor from the United States Government Printing Office
TOPIC B –
What i think courage is or means is the bravery to stand up for what one thinks is right. I do agree with the author about his statment. This is because I think it is a lot harder to make up ones mind about what they feel is right. Anyone can listen to others and follow orders but i think real bravery comes when one knows that what they are told to do is wrong and does the right thing like Crieghton’s father. He knew war was wrog and he went to warn the other side because thats what he felt was he right thing to do even thought he knew he could die from it.
,
Topic C
I think the power of press is growing stronger and stronger eveyday. People believe evrything they hear or see or read even if it makes no sense.and even when it does make sense, its most likely a lie.
For example,
in my language arts class we read the book called Nothing But the Truth by avi. Its about a boy who lets a story leek out to the public about not being aloud to sing the national anthem in his school. It got out to radio shows and talk shows and everyone was taking the side of the “poor boy” who wasnt aloud to sing the national anthem.Because of all talk about the story some of his friends diagreed with him and stopped talking to him and he switched shcools. In the end we find out it was all a lie because he didn’t even know the words of the song to begin with.
I think that something like this could happen, and probably already did.
Topic E:
If i was Creighton i would’ve most likely done the same.Creighton couldn’t of just let his uncle die, because eventually they would’ve probably killed him because he was an enemy. If they hung his uncle,Creighton would’ve remebered about his father and gone mad.He would’ve regreted letting his uncle die.Another option could’ve been staying with Benjamin Franklin, but then his uncle might have died eventually. That would haunt him forever. Also he could’ve said that he believed the whole story and get the gun delivered to his uncle. But then again something might’ve gone wrong and his cover could’ve been blown. Then his own life is in danger, and his uncle would probably be dead by now because his unlce was already going to die. Then Creighton’ll have to find a way to escape which is a whole another story.
I agree with Marcus because newspaper and magazines have a huge impact on people’s life.It can truly make them believe anything. As long as the story is believeable, they belive it.
Benedict Arnold once stood for dedication, loyalty, courage, and nobility to the Americans, but later stood as injustice, treason, failure, and cowardice to the Americans when he decided to side with the British for his own personal gains. The main reason for switching sides was because he was deeply in debt and was being payed 60,000 shillings by the British to join them. Benedict Arnold stood for heroism, bravery, and fidelity to the British.
I agree with Lauren because the newspaper and the new on television allows you to find out about the world right when something happens. It keeps you up-to-date with the area and people around you.
Topic E-
If i was in Creighton’s shoes i probably would make the same choice because I would think thast my uncle would let me come with him. I would also think about the fact that he is family and you should try to help your family especially if they can get back to your homeland. Creighton could have tried to leave on his own and not get his uncle out but I think that would still be a hard decision. Creighton took alot of risks because he could have been caught or killed for letting them get away.
TOPIC D
Benedict Arnold stood for to the Americans as a military hero at first His heroics led an expedition of 1,150 riflemen against Quebec, the capital of British Canada. The American commander drove his men hard through the Maine wilderness, overcoming leaky boats, spoiled provisions, treacherous rivers, and near starvation to arrive at Quebec in November, his force reduced to 650 men. Yet, he has gone down in history not as a hero but as a villain, a military traitor who, as commander of the American fort at West Point, New York, in 1780, schemed to hand it over to the British.
Benedict Arnold stood for to the British also as a military hero. Benedict Arnold’s role in this conspiracy there is no doubt. His British contact, Major John Andre, was caught with incriminating documents in Arnold’s handwriting, including routes of access to the fort. Arnold served George III with the same skill and daring he had shown in the Patriot cause. In 1781 he led devastating strikes on Patriot supply depots: In Virginia he looted Richmond and destroyed munitions and grain intended for the American army opposing Lord Cornwallis; in Connecticut he burned ships, warehouses, and much of the town of New London, a major port for Patriot privateers. This gave the British an advantage at the time of the war. 🙁

Title: The Enigma of Benedict Arnold
By James Henretta
🙂
If I could put myself in Creighton’s shoes I would help my uncle break out of jail. I wouldn’t do it illgally and take the risk of getting in an a lot of trouble like Creighton but I would try to bribe or try get money and get him out of jail or anyway your aloud to free people out of jail in there time. TOPIC-E
Topic E:
If I was in Creightons position I would have helped my uncle to escape. That’s because to Creighton his uncle seemed like the only family he had left. Also, the only one he could trust. He wanted to show his uncle that he wasn’t worthless and he could help. I don’t think Creighton had any other choice because he wasn’t use to the life he had now. He was use to being pampered and didn’t know what to do without direction. Though he could have went back with Dr. Franklin and let his uncle stay in jail. In making the decision to help his uncle he risked being caught. If he was caught trying to free a prisoner he could have been put into jail. Worse he could have been hung along with his uncle. So Creighton was risking his life to help his uncle.
I agree with Marcus on topic C. The newspaper has a huge effect on peoples opinion. In the book you can tell the Librety tree had a big effect and if it didn’t they wouldn’t have burned it down.
extra credit:
i agree with naghma on topic A,question 3
because you really don’t need to pretend to be something your truley not to get friends or even to feel like you fit in.you just gotta be you and that should be more than enough 🙂
topic F
if i was creighton i would have made the same choice he did, and bail my uncle out. every single one of us knows that you would do anything to bail out someone in your family because thats what family does for each other they help them out in tough situations.other than that creighton did have another choice he could have not brought the gun to his uncle. i mean his uncle wouldn’t do the same for him,his uncle would probably just leave him there to suffer.
in making this decision creighton could have gotten himself into trust issues with the friend he just made.:)
TOPIC E
If I was in the situation Creighton was in, I probably would have made he same choice to break my uncle out of jail, besides Creighton really didn’t have any other choice if he wanted to get back home to England, as he had planned to do before Gower hit him in his head and changed his attitude, which if I was in his “shoes” would be happening to me instead.
TOPIC C – A free press. Enemies of the Patriots’ cause felt the need to destroy the place where The Liberty Tree newspaper was printed. In your response for discussion, please address the following questions:
What do you think this says about the power of the press?
Can you think of a recent example in which a newspaper became a powerful tool in waging war or impacting world politics?
Topic C
The fact that the enemies of the patriots felt the need to destroy the printing shop of The Liberty Tree, goes to show how significant and influential it was to the war. Nowadays, the majority of citizens get their information about the war from the press. In fact, I’ve generated my own opinion from what I see on the news. Since most of us cannot experience the war first-hand we must rely on what the press presents to us, which gives them a great power.
TOPIC E –
If I was Creighton I think I would have helped Gower. The risk of being caught would be high but I couldn’t just leave a comrade to rot in a jail, could I? Sometimes people have to take risks. BIG risks. If a friend of yours was getting attacked by an alligator I don’t think ANYONE would think twice about jumping in and saving them. The same goes for Gower. He was a “friend” of Creighton and he could have died in there.
Creighton also could have left Gower and Hale. The risks with taking this path however were:
A) Getting caught fraternizing with the enemy and getting chucked in with them (If he talked with them before leaving)
OR
B) Risk getting found out. Just as bad as letter A but slightly worse because he’d basically have let it slip that he was a spy
OR
C) IF Gower and Hale got out by themselves they would probably set out to kill Creighton.
Topic E
If I was in Creighton position I would have definately helped break my uncle out of jail. I know it would be very risky doing that, but it wouldnt matter because he can help me go back home and most importantly he is family. Now Creighton could have just forget about everything and go ahead living with Sophie and Benjamin, but the consequences(or risk) to that would have been that he would never get the chance to see his mother again or even have the chance to go back home.
Topic C
The power of press is extremely powerful in influencing people’s mind and their decisions. The press these days can write a story, truth or lie, about any topic and people will believe they’re the truth. These magazines and newspapers have made us gullible. The most recent example of a newspaper that I can think of, that became a powerful tool in waging war was a newspaper called the New York Sun. In the 1900’s this newspaper was propaganda- information designed to influence opinion. During World War 1 this newspaper turned America to think the Germans were the enemy. This made Germans public enemy number 1 because it showed Germans invading Belgium, and injuring innocent citizens. This example shows that the power of the press can influence people’s beliefs and opinions about any war.
Marcus,
Could you give us the reference to the article you read that you cited in your post? Without the reference, “the police” could have been anyone, and “their friends” could have been anyone. I need some proof that “they were British Special Forces”.
Topic A
Question 3
What do I stand for? I stand for people being who they truly are. People should not try to be anything that they are not, life is too short to be anyone but yourself. This is something that I should stand up for, not something that i shouldn’t stand for. People can tell I stand for this because I act like Naghma, no one else. When people describe me, they say UNIQUE, because I am me, that’s all. Many people are being themselves out there, but some may not. If they aren’t being themselve, hopefully one day they will learn, and they will decide to be who they truly are. I might have gone through a phase where i wanted to be something I was not, but I know now, to be me, Naghma Ahmed. We were all made differently, don’t try to be someone else, because that job it already taken. 😀
Topic C:
The power of the press impacts society greatly these days. Sending urgent news to the other side of the world wouldn’t take very long. But newspaper and television news is a major part of people’s lives. It can give people opinion, knowledge, and entertainment.
Newspaper became a powerful tool recently when I read about the Hillary-Obama race for presidency. It gave me lots of information that changed my opinion and outlook on some things. I feel that it is important to keep up with the news in the world so you can stay “in the now”. :-]
Topic C
The newspaper and magazines have a huge impact on people’s opinions, to make them believe the story is real even though its clearly fake. For exmaple of the war of Iraq:
A car driving through the outskirts of a besieged city opens fire on a police checkpoint, killing one. In pursuit, the police surround and detain the drivers and find the vehicle packed with explosives, they get arrested, then their friends drive up to the prison and break them out. Incredible, but it gets better they werent even from Iraq, they were British Special Forces framing civilians to keep fighting the war in iraq, though they didnt ever tell the public they were were British Special Forces and it eventually leaked out of course.
Topic E
If I was Creighton and my uncle was in jail I would definetely have helped him escape. He would have probably been shot or hanged for being an enemy leader. Creighton could have stayed with Ben Franklin and not help his uncle but that could have costed his uncle’s life and he would have probably regretted it forever. Creighton could have also told someone he trusted the whole story and have them deliver the gun to his uncle in the jail cell but that would be extemely risk. He could have not only have blown his cover and got himself killed but he risks his uncle’s life also.
I agree with Khakelia S because it is a family matter and family is suppose to help family no matter what
Topic B
Article 3
This article is very…. heartbreaking and sad. Prisoners from a prison in Afganistan were mistreated and ABUSED!!! They were taunted by other people. For example, they were put into tiny cells and had only blankets and a bucket to use as a toilet. YUCK! The police said that they were on a “tight budget”. But still, the prisoners were wrongfully mistreated just because of their religion and beliefs. This is some proof of the many cases of abuse and mistreatment that is happening in the world around us.
*Extra Credit*
I agree with Khakelia with Topic F because I would help bail my uncle if he was in jail. Also, one of the options that she put was not to steal a gun to bail him out, especially from someone that trusts you.
Topic A
Question 2
What is meant by Creighton’s realization about loyalty is that it is an important characteristic that anyone and everyone should have. Having loyalty means being trustworthy. On the other hand, the loyalty that Creighton’s father had was the wrong type. Having the type of loyalty that Crieghtons father had meant being able to be relied on but always have the sense of betrayal or treachery.
I can personally use the knowledge Creighton has gained by realizing that loyalty IS an extremely important trait in everyone that is needed in order to carry out a great friendship. Being loyal means being able to be trusted by friends and family. Thats really important to me because in my friendships I want to be able to tell my close friends important events and stepping stones in my life. And vice-versa. LETS GO LOYALTY! =)
I agree with Khakelia for topic C. The power of the press is a very powerful thing. In her example it clearly shows how the power of the press can actually say something and clearly it’s not true. =)
*This is Extra-credit*
Topic F- “Right is Right ” Yes, I would have made the same choice because he’s my uncle, he’s helping better my life, and (Creighton) thought his uncle would get him back home.( He [uncle] didn’t think bringing Creighton, was worth the trouble.) The other options Creighton had was, NOT bring the gun, for his uncle to break out.The risk and trouble Creighton went thought was: he had to steal the gun from Peter, (a person he just meet) and made Peter think he lost it.
Topic C- A free press I think this says that the power of the press is a very powerful thing. And the peoples opinions are really strong. And in this example, peoples thoughts and actions, should be taken very seriously. In a recent example, in which a newspaper became a powerful tool in impacting world politics is when, people, (rumor) said Obama was a Muslim and the story got way out of hand. But clearly he’s a Christian!
Topic A ( Question 2)
What is meant by Creighton’s realization about loyalty is that loyalty to him, is the most important. However, loyalty that was misplaced or misguided is the most worthless because it is an important factor. If loyalty is a key factor and is most worthy something that is misplaced or misguided is not a key factor which would be most worthless. How I can personally use the knowledge Creighton has gained is by knowing that loyalty is something that I can use everyday. If you have loyalty it can help people see who you really are. By myself using loyalty people can have trust in me and I will have loyalty to myself.
Topic C
What I think this says about the power of the press is that it has a lot of power considering that a lot of people read it and it can let a lot of people know what is happening. The power of the press can describe someone’s opinion or fact, and if someone doesn’t like that opinion or fact it can make someone upset, just as in the book the enemies of the Patriots destroyed the place where The Liberty Tree newspaper was printed. This can be because of many reasons beause of the power of the press. A recent example in which a newspaper became a powerful toll in waging war or impacting world politics is in the Sun-sentinel newspaper. Results of recent Sun-sentinel news polls is impacting things worldwide. It’s asking people what they think of things and how they feel about all different issues. Which gets people thinking which also impacts the populations way of thinking.
The Pre-Spring Break Assignment is closed. Thanks for a great discussion.
topic #1
Hurricane Katrina desroyed most of New Orleans and now the city is totally underwater. I think that the demolished parts are our and the goverments responsibility. The rebuilding of New Orleans would also make the city a better place. Sure it is a lot of money but many citizens are left homeless because of this destructive storm. That is why the government needs to spend as much money itneeds to take to rebuild and protect New Orleans. The citizens were forced to evacute the area and go somewhere else that is unfamiliar to them. It isn’t fair that the government ALWAYS have to take the easy way out of EVERY situation.
Topic #2
I think that in the American society, teenagers wait too long to treat teenagers as adults. Most teenagers aren’t treated like adults and the result of that would be very bad. Some pros are that it would make the irresponsible and mature people become more responsible. But the cons are that some teenagers may not be up to the challenge to learn how it is like to be an adult.
Topic # 1
The government should not spend billions of dollars to rebuild the city of New Orleans, what not to say another major diaster like Hurricane Katrina would come and destroy what would be rebuild by the Federal government.Would protecting and rebuilding New Orleans from future hurricanes really be a benefical. It would cause even more worries with the raising gas prices and the economic values would increase. The amount money needed to rebuld New Orleans(billions). That would not be an even close number to describe. The citizens of New Orleans should pack up and move somewhere else it would increase the funds that would be needed for war in Iraq and to rebuild the falling economy. Citizens would have a ease on life without the increase in taxes due major damage done by a hurricane like katrina to hit a another state as in New Orleans.
Hey y’all.
I’m very impressed with the honest and respectful discussion going on in here.
To say that to rebuild New Orleans- in all senses of the phrase- would cost millions is unrealistic. Think in terms of billions.
Check out these google results to get an idea of the cost to rebuild after disasters perpetrated by man and caused by nature.

Topic #1
I believe that the government should pay money to rebuild New Orleans. Since Hurricane Katrina was a natural diaster, then no one is at fault. There were thousands of people that lived in New Orleans, and their homes should be rebuilt. Citizens of the United States pay taxes which are funds for the government. These funds should hire constuction workers to build protective walls for outside the city, and shutters for the houses. It’s the governments’ job to provide protection and keep the citizens safe from harm.
Topic #2
No I don’t think American society waits to long to treat teenagers as adults. Teenagers are just older children, but they still are children. American teenagers should live out their childhood, because they are only that age once. The pros of giving 15 year old teenagers adult rights, would be that they work. Providing extra money to their parents and family. Also, that teenagers feel independent, that they’re working and making their own money. Some cons of teenagers having adult rights at 15 would be the stress of working. Many teenagers work overtime and still have to complete school work. This causes major stress phyically and mentally. Another con is
that their childhood is cut short, and
teenagers are forced to grow up quicker.
Topic 1
I feel as if the Goverment should spend the money to rebuild the city of New Orleans. I feel that if they can send money to other countries in need of help that they can spend the money to rebuild the city. It wouldn’t be fair if they asked the people to uproot and move. Some people have lived there all their live and you wouldnt want some one to ask you to leave your city. This is why the goverment should pay the money to rebuild the city of New Orleans.
I feel the the federal government should assist in rebuilding New Orleans and protect it from future devistations. The federal government should be responsible to protect and help its own people. The people of every state are what makes our nation. Our nation needs to be protected from things such as hurricanes and have processes in place to minimize damage. If such damage should occur the people need to feel comfort in that there will be assistance when necessary.
Topic #3
A book I think I would use to make a similar code would be a phonebook such as Yellow Pages since they are mailed to you all the time. I have atleast three in my house and they are pretty useful. So I would make the code as a phonebook.
Topic #1
I think the Federal Government should spend millions of dollars to rebuild the city of New Orleans and protect it from future hurricanes. Many people have lived in New Orleans for all their lives and most of their memories are their. The government has a responsibility to take care of its nation no matter what happens. Some people already packed up and left to go to another state and they want to go back to their hometown. Like that old saying home is where the heart is and many people call New Orleans a home so that is where their heart is. New Orleans isn’t just a place for people to have parties, it is a historical landmark and alot of things in history took place there. So yes i do think the government should spend billons of dollars rebuilding New Orleans because it is a crucial and important part of our nation.
Topic #2
I don’t think we take too long to treat teenagers as adults. There are some pros an cons to giving 15 year-olds the responsibily and rights of adults. Some pros are that there wold be more people to work and do certain jobs. There would be people who know wht everyone wants and we would live more comfortable. Some cons are that teenagers just don’t know what they want and they are finding theselves at age 15. We don’t know what we want so we won’t be able to take of ourselves. We should just become adults the same time we do now.
#1
I don’t think the government should rebuild New Orleans. The money they would be getting would come out of ‘our’ tax dollars. Also, there are THOUSANDS of other cities that the citizens could go to. On the topic of ‘they would be sad’, isn’t everyone sad sometimes? If someone had to leave all their friends behind if they were moving, the ‘movee’ would be sad. Everything s/he knew would be gone. Yeah, almost everything in the New Orleans houses would be gone but people need to make sacrifices everyday. IF we give any money to the New Orleanians it should be to help them start a new life.
Topic 4:
The invention I am focused on that Benjamin Frankiln invented is the encouragement of eating citrus fruits, such as limes, oranges, and grapefruits. Apples, bananas, and other fruits also contain the special vitamin that we need in our lives: vitamin C. Benjamin Franklin recognized how healthy these fruits are to humans and animals in our diets. Such fruits help maintain our skin and gums healthy. My life has been directly impacted by this “invention” because I have at least an apple or an orange every day, and my health benefits from this. The vitamin C helps build strong bones an muscles. Nothin is better than having HUGE muscles like me. lol
Topic #1
New Orleans was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and people lost their homes. I do think that the federal government should spend billions of dollars to rebuild the city of New Orleans and protect it from future hurricanes because the resident’s homes were destroyed and where on earth would they get money to rebuild their homes. Also, the government has the money to rebuild homes and communities of New Orleans. The citizens of New Orleans should not be asked to pick up and move somewhere else and the city not be rebuilt because some citizens do not have anywhere to go and if they do not rebuild at some point in time they are going to end up rebuilding it and they just can’t leave the place empty with no one living there. Basically the government should pay billions of dollars to help the citizens of New Orleans and the state.
Topic #3
If I were to write a similar code today I would choose the dictionary because it is a book that everybody has it so i would say the information in code and only the people how now that there is a code can look it up.
Discussion #1
I do think the city of New Orleans should be rebuilt because the federal government could try to find other ways to protect the housing of New Orleans such as stronger building that are resisitant to mold and floods (they could bulid the building out of palm trees and cement to ensure the building will not fall or get destroyed) and they could also make large drains that would lead out
to a purification plant to clean the water and send it out to the gulf so polluted water wouldn’t cause more polluton to cause more hurricanes.
Discussion #2
I do think that in the American society today we wait to long to treat teenagers as adults because teenagers are always begging to be treated as adults. The pros of allowing teenagers in America to have full rights and responsibilities as adults at age 15 would be teenagers at age 15 would not be considered teenagers anymore but young adults. Teenagers would be able to drive earlier without an adult in the car, apply for jobs that would be for adults like working in a restaurant that a 16 year old would be more qualified for.
The cons of allowing a teenager to have the full responsibilty as an adult is they could drop out of highschool earlier, get drafted earlier, and if a 15 year who commited a crime would be tried as an adult not a minor.

The New Orleans was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. And if I had to decide whether or not the federal government should pay billions of dollars on fixing up the New Orleans and make it hurriane-safe for people I would decide that the federal government SHOULD make the move. Millions of homes were destroyed, and obviously the residents can not pay the needs to fix the houses up. The government on the other hand, has the money, and should spend it on something that will help others. The millions of homes destroyed left millions of people homeless. Rebuilding a community in the New Orleans will help the residents so much. So obviously, my point of view is, if you have the money use it on something important. This relates to the federal government, they have the money, so they should help the New Orleans. 😀

I think that the federal government should spend billions of dollars trying to rebuild the city of New Orleans because i know for sure if i lost my home in any kind of disaster i would be tramitized.I mean leaving your hometown and all the memories you have there, like maybe the first steps you took or your first bike. You have to remember these are people just like me and you,but they lost everything they ever owned and they will never get back the things they lost.New Orleans is a very festive and beatiful city that should be rebiult!!!There are also many historical events that have taken place there.Around the coloniel times New Orleans was a major and important city.I felt so bad for the people there.I wish I could go back in time and prevent any of this from happening, but whatever happens always happens for a reason.:)

I think the federal government should spend billions of dollars to rebuild the city of New Orleans and people should not move elsewhere because I believe that(since it is part of the U.S.),the federal government should give it’s attention to the rights, needs and problems of every city and state equally including New Orleans, just as a mother tends to the needs of her children. How would you feel if your parents ignored your for no fault of your own.We cant fight with the forces of nature. As for the money to rebuild this city, the federal government has trilions and trilions of dollars.Instead of spending it on unecessary things,we could use it to rebuild this unique city.Corrupt political leaders and corrupt members of the federal government should be fired. We have too put the past behind us.There are many cities that are in the danger of being hit by a hurricane. What the federal government can do to protect these cities is by providing money to build stronger buildings, construction sites etc,by funding the money to build more emergency stores that provide shelter and food and by provinding money to build machines and tools that predict natural disasters more accurately.:)

If I chose to write a similar code today, the book I would use would be a dictionary. Dictionaries are more than accessable to almost anyone. In every household there is probably at least one dictionary if not more. Even if there isn’t a dictionary in a household they can easily be borrowed from a public library or bought at any store for about $5. Plus, in this day of age they have dictionaries online. If I were to make a code, I would probably be more specific about what dictionary it is since there are a variety of different dictionaries out there. For instance, if I were to pick a dictionary I would pick Webster’s because to me it is most popular.

As we all know, New Orleans was destroyed due to Hurricane Katrina in 2005. I still feel so sorry for those who basically lost everything however, i do not think that the Federal Government should spend BILLIONS of dollars on one city. As devastating as the situation is, there’s only so much money in the world and i think that the United States has more important priorites. I think that maybe the government should fix the City up but not make it able to be lived in. Using billions of dollars to make everything hurricane-safe is not a fantastic way to spend the money because theres many others situations in the Untied States that are more worthy of the money. As for the citzens of New Orleans, i think they should be given a place to live in for the time being until they are ready to move on or find another place to live and start over.

Ever since the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, there has been much discussion on the future of this important American City. I think that the federal government should spend billions of dollars to rebuild the city of New Orleans and protect it from future hurricanes. I feel that since it is part of the U.S. every state should be protected no matter what happens. Since, it is part of the U.S. it should be rebuilt. If you just leave a state like that what will happen to it? Florida has hurricanes and it does a lot of damage to it. However, things did happen to try to get it back to normal. New Orleans is a very important state. It has a lot of history that has taken part on that ground. No matter how much money it takes things should happen to get it back in shape. It is part of the U.S. and since it is the federal government should spend billions of dollars to rebuild the city. If they do this, and protect it from future hurricanes it will be protected even more. Meaning, there will be less damage and the people of this state would be able to live there. 🙂

I don’t think that the government should spend billions of dollars rebuilding New Orleans and the citizens should be asked to pack up and move elsewhere. If rebuilding were neccessary maybe twenty years ago, why not? During this period of time, it would not be a smart thing to do because we desperately need those billions of dollars for more important things, we have a war going on, were worried about the starving children in Africa when we having staring children here in our own country to take care of. How about using that monet for solar, fuel-efficient cars because New Orleans wont matter when the ozone layer is destroyed and we all melt. What if we get bombed, that money would sure be useful. Why rebuild New Orleans? So people can party. Especially with the high risk of it being in danger everytime a hurricane comes, its not worth it. They have to pick up and leave, its a part of life. Maybe in time they could rebuild it, but not in this critical point in history.

First off, I would like to say that 15 year-olds having the rights and responsibilities is simply STUPID! With that said I believe I should begin with the cons (which outweigh the pros by a truck load). I’m not saying this is true for all teenagers, but lets face the truth, were dumb when it comes to adult ‘stuff’. We fight with our parents, experiment with drugs, waste out time at malls when we could be studying for our math exam, speaking of which, our priorities are in every-which-direction and not to mention hormones out-of-whack. If we dont have adult bodies why have the rights and responsibilities of one. Most importantly, our undeveloped minds are not ready to face the world like and adult or handle the stress of it, the suicide rate would probable reach maxixmum velocity. If teenagers nowadays can barely handle homework and cleaning their room…I can’t even think about it! Society would crumble before our eyes! Despite all the negative effects, there is some good in having adult responsiblities by the age of 15. We would have more people in the work force, making money, helping the economy, etc. Teenagers would probable mature much faster and would have more experience of life by the time their just 18. To be honost, there isn’t much I can say thats good about it. It should be the way it is, maybe a hundred years ago, but please, not now.

If i were to write a similar code today, the book i would choose would be “the guinness book of world records”.I would use this book because it is truly intresting and it contains alot of fimilar words, commenly used.It also is an amusing book and alot of libraries have them along with people owning the book.
Topic 1: I feel that we should re-build New Orleans. That city was demolished by Katrina and the storm was out of their control. Nature took it’s course and destroyed New Orleans. Therfore those people that lived there should get to have new lives. New Orleans was a city of passion and festivity. By the government rebuiling New Orleans, the people would get a fresh start at life and they would be able to recreate the memories they had when they once lived there. If I ever lost my home in a flood or any disaster type thing, I would be devistated and would deffinaitly want to be able to live there again.
Also, once the government rebuilds New Orleans, they should also come up with a way to protect the city from being flooded. They should create some sort of wall so that it acts like a sea wall to protect them from the “below sea level” problem they have going on. :]
